Please note that this review is technically for the far superior PC version but I did play a little of the PlayStation version once I saw that yes, I was actually seeing Pajama Sam on the Playstation on this very site! Granted the third game (one I never played as a kid) and not the other well known DARKNESS one.

Pajama Sam! Anyone who was even slightly around during the 90's knows of Humongous Entertainment and the simply wonderful point and click disguised adventure games. I remember fondly one particularly happy memory of waking up before a kind of day care camp kinda thing and playing Putt Putt Saves the Zoo before I had to actually start my day!

I simply lived, breathed and experienced these games. They are great and no matter how old you are, what you did with your life choices, one can always return to these games and relive happier times in their life.

But just how is Pajama Sam for the Playstation? Well to be honest it's inferior to the PC version (I heard these were on the Wii at some point... These are better even though I never played them) and I will detail a bit below to the best of my ability.

The reason for the high rating and slightly negative sounding review is... well let's face it, it's simply a blast of nostalgic goodness either way, and I can't badmouth something. It just isn't in my nature. Plus it's Pajama Sam!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Graphics: The game isn't bad by any means, but there is slight lag and compression issues and slight slow down.. I dunno, there is just something off having this PC classic on the Playstation. It seems watered down.

Sound: The sounds are all there, but again slightly compressed sounding and clearly pushing the Playstation (heh, as if I am an expert on the PlayStation's capabilities) If you played the PC version, you will recognize the sounds and they add up, but having not beaten this particular version, I can't tell you. I played enough to get the sounds.

Addictive: It's not as engaging playing a PC point and click on a PlayStation and it can be a little annoying. Only the most dedicated and devoted Pajama Sam fans can play through the game regardless. In the PC version, I can marathon an entire game in a few hours or less if I know what I am doing and can remember where to go or what to do.

Story: It's the same story as it was on the PC. Sam is eating cookies late at night and he is kidnapped and held hostage by a group of said cookies and goes to the magical land of dessert. It's been a while since I played it, but that's about the gist. As far as I know, they didn't change anything from the core gameplay for the PSX version. But I didn't play through the game fully to find out.

Depth: The game is the same. Only on the Playstation. If you played it on the PC, you can play it on the Playstation. I don't really know what else to say!

Difficulty: Come on, this is meant for 8 year olds max. If you have trouble on a game meant for little kids, you are probably not meant to be a gamer. (Hides hat in shame) But playing games blind even easy games are always an experience. It was late at night, I was tired, recording footage of said game blind for a friend, and it was annoying and frustrating. I hadn't played it since I myself was 8 and this was the only game in the Pajama Sam library I never played before.

Final Thoughts: This game as it stands is little more than a novelty. I literally said, WTF (What the Fungus) when I saw it while browsing Vizzed late at night. Then I head over to the very reliable Wikipedia to double check if it was real. Yes, it is real. I never saw it in the wild, and it also lead me to playing a copy of the PC version as it was before I played that.

This is clearly not as great as the PC version. It should be played anyway cause hey, this game and it's series rocked my socks as a kid. I grew up on these games. It isn't the worst thing ever, but I rated it high anyway cause that's how I roll. A nostalgic, bored adult can easily devote part of their brain to play this and come out of it a changed person. You played Pajama Sam on the Playstation, on Vizzed! That right there is the king of all accomplishments!

I wish they made more of these games on the Playstation (especially my personal favorite, Thunder and Lightening aren't so Frightening) but we get Food game on the Playstation. If you aren't a purist for the original, give it a go. It can be a little gnarly, but it is easily worth the engagement.

My final score is a Broken Clock out of 10 (woo, shameless reference is shameless)
