I do find it kinda strange that initially they are saying that you aren't able to keep the games, but it does seem like a cool feature on the surface.
One thing that I thought was interesting was when Reggie Fils-Amie was asked recently, if customers will have to re-purchase the Virtual Console type games AGAIN, he stated "Stay Tuned" So there is some hope despite Nintendo's history regarding these IPs
It seemed to me like they were finally starting to kinda figure it out with the 3DS and Wii-U as the Nintendo accounts between those two systems are the same/linked, so hopefully they will continue that type of thing, but again, it's all speculative until we see it in action.
The cool thing I think here is, that they are FINALLY adding Online Multi-player for these titles. Better late than never I guess.
I guess the whole thing is going to boil down to, how much are they going to charge for this online experience. Word is that the service will be free through the fall as a demo to early adopters, then start charging from there. Not sure what they have planned for people purchasing next holiday season.
After stepping back and reading more into this System, most of the initial stuff sounds good with the HARDWARE itself and a few of the games that are coming out at launch.
A few concerns I do have is this. Although I am happy about the initial cost of the unit overall (was hoping either a packed in title at 300$ or 250$) without the game, but for what it is I'm ok with it.
The issue that I have is, that the accessories are priced too high. 80$ for an extra set of Joycons? 70$ for the Classic Pro Controller? How does the controller cost more than your A+ Titles? I would be hoping for a controller to cost around 50$
Really, all this says to me is that Nintendo is taking a loss on the Switch Hardware itself in the early days and are trying to make up that gap with these prices. Taking a loss initially on hardware is quite common early on in a consoles lifespan as more of the money is in the software.
That being said, these Joycons do sound like they have some cool features with adaptive Rumble and IR that is able to sense object around them. Something that hopefully developers will be able to figure out how to use in a really cool manner.
I am kinda skeptical about the Phone app to use voice chat, but if you think about it this is a pretty ingenious way to keep the cost low on the unit itself and save on batterylife somewhat because EVERYONE has their phone on them these days....all of that capability is already built in on almost every phone these days, so it seems like a smart way to keep the cost down on the Hardware itself, if it's actually done properly.
