A Treasure Console From the Past

Megadrive aka Sega Genesis is a true treasure gem along with most other consoles as well. Such as Super Nintendo, Gamecube, N64, Sega System, and many more. This console came out October 29, 1988 in Japan. When word about it got around the world everyone wanted one of their own in their house to play. If you didn't grow up of when these retro consoles rained at the time then I feel very sorry for you. Back then it brought gaming to a whole new level with excitement which have had children, and teens getting one up for grabs which wasn't easy to get. Any games you brought for this console wasn't easy to beat, and most of them would be a challenge. Like for instance Sonic The Hedgehog. Anyone who played this game knows how hard it was. Back in the day not many people care about what the graphics looked like since it was retro it looked colourful to look at. At school people would talk about the latest game on one of those consoles. Lets say Streets Of Rage 3 for an example some will boast that they completed the game in hard mode. While some others would feel sad about it. Really whats more important is the ENJOYMENT of the game, and not the competition, but then again people would feel otherwise about it and enjoy taking down people in a game they were good at. Apart from people now remembering their glory days from beating down people in Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition with this move

If you watched the video which is 1min and 30 seconds, you can see these are how pro players go at each other spamming the same moves lol. So if you are one of them don't be ashamed. I mean I was doing that with Chun Li really, you know those fast kicks? Kept spamming it each time. I know at the time the Megadrive was popular, but not as popular as it was with SNES. And for the longest of time I remember for some reason Nintendo, and Sega Genesis has been rivals. It seems it still goes on nowadays from what I saw on Google. Like when either Sega or Nintendo make great games one would be better than the other or, the creators would make the game far more superior. Saying Nintendo  is better than Sega or Sega is better. Now today modern days of Sega and Nintendo they are still at it. Nintendo as we know are taking down hack games for reasons we know while Sega are doing their own thing, and not doing what Nintendo are doing. People still argue about which console is better Sega or Nintendo? That's for you to decide.

The megadrive means a lot to me because if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be the gamer I would be today. Me, and my brother didn't have much megadrive games, but I do remember me, and him having sonic 1 and sonic 2. That's how I became a sonic fan. From new games to animated series on tv to more. It made me to enjoy games a lot. Here is what I saw on Google

"Sonic the Hedgehog was a massive success in the US and Europe, and with Nintendo in no hurry to follow up its huge selling NES console, the megadrive began to rapidly erode Nintendos market lead in the US, and increase its already huge lead in the European market"

I think.....this may be how the rival started off. With the competition between Sega and Nintendo, and I have to say the megadrive was the most successful console Sega made back in the time with 29 million consoles sold. Wow now that was something I didn't really know about. So I'm glad I made this article. ^-^

This is my very first article I written. There will be more from me soon when I found something else to talk about.

Good article. There were a few spelling and grammar errors, but overall it was well done and fun to read.

When the Genesis/MegaDrive came out, there really wasn't anything close to console/graphics wise at the time. At a point where the NES was at its height of popularity, people saw the colorful 16 bit graphics of the Genesis and mouths dropped. Everyone else was playing 8bit games (or worse if you still had an atari/coleco/ETC) Then to see the awesome ports of arcade hits, most people were sold.

So I will counter your statement that the graphics was one of the biggest selling points at the time. It was head and shoulders above the NES, which was the prevailing console at the time.

I will say that when Sonic was released a couple years later, it was one of the biggest "wow moments" that I can remember from my childhood with regards to the colors, the graphics and the speed of play.

One thing I love about the Retro consoles including Sega is just seeing how much influence they had on today's morden gaming.

If you take a look at the Various 6 button Street Fighter 4 Pads or something like that, you can see it was very inspired by the 6 button fighting pad for the genesis.

Tbh; I don't mind Spamming lol, My prefered Street fighter character is E-honda.
That 100 hand slap does a lot of damage when used.

I remember having a Genesis, Had the Lion King(Sucked at it, but still enjoyed it) Aladdin was an instant classic(Never got past the lava stage) And I still like Sonic 2 despite always having trouble when it came to the 2nd level.
Never tried streets of rage until many years later, but it beats final fight by a long shot; extremely fun and good looking beat'em up.
And Sure the Mortal Kombat games were kinda meh, but they had an awesome unique soundtrack to them that no other port had.

To me The Retro Console systems always have that something special about them, Not to mention; the games are Significantly harder.

Great Article
