I have plans to remake Pokémon Emerald to the Gameboy color using Pokémon Crystal as it's base rom but need help with it. I had planned to spearhead this myself but since this is different than GBA Pokémon hacking I decided to come here for help. I'll make a short FAQ answering some of the most common questions.

Q: What are we hacking?

A: It's in the thread title/description.

Q: What console is this for?

A: It is for Gameboy color but in rom form.

Q: Where is a good place to get the necessary hacking tools?

A: Some tools can be found here but they're towards the bottom and are called GIMP and VGMusic (Though I'm not sure it would work with GBC. GIMP should work) otherwise, whack a hack will have to do. Scroll to the bottom for the GBC tools. For easier navigation, have the non-translated site open in one tab (So the download links work) and the English version in another tab (So you can read the program descriptions)

If you have any more questions, feel free to post them and I will update the FAQ with them.

If you want to help out, please choose a position from the list below.

Mapper: You'd be in charge of redesigning the maps and making them look like the Emerald maps (So New Bark Town now looks like Little Root Town) This will be handled by me. No mapper will be needed. If anyone knows how to change the map connections (You can do this with A-map by clicking on the four arrows and you can change how you entered a map) using Goldmap then please let me know. Samples of my map work can be seen on my profile

Pokémon sprites/adder: You'd be in charge of replacing the existing sprites with the Hohen sprites (Make sure you keep the original Johto sprites) and adding in new Pokémon.

Music: If you can figure out a way to get the Johto music to sound like the Hohen music than this job is yours.

ASM Coder: ASM will be used to add in any missing features such as items. Any moves introduced in gen 3 will have to be ASM'd in.

Battle editor: If you have access to a battle editor (or know where to find one) then you can apply for this. If there isn't a GBC battle editor then we're screwed until one can be found/made.

Item editor: You'd be in charge of editing the items and making sure the new ones are useable.

Starter editor: To change the starters.

Text editor: If anyone has an XSE-esk program (or can find one) for Pokémon Gold then you can apply for this. We need to be able to add in new scripts for certain events such as being prevented from leaving Petalburg and heading to route 104 before checking out the gym.

Mart editor: Next to item editing, this is one of the easiest jobs out there. You'd just edit the mart data for the poke marts.

If there are any other programs we may need that isn't listed then please let me know and I'll add it (Unless you sate that you want to do it in advance) If you have what it takes to do it, then please post with what you'd want to do and I'll let you know what we need done. If anyone wants to do the task of searching for items/features in Pokémon Emerald then go right ahead. This will save our staff time and make them focus on their primary roles. Downloading an Emerald rom and using the hack tools provided at the link above (Make sure you go to the GBA section) will probably be easier or you could use serebii.net if you so desired. Make sure to separate the lists into sections so they look like this

-----
Items
-----

Dive ball

Ferry pass

--------
Features
--------

Battle frontier

Faraway Island.

and then upload them so the respective team members can download the text file and use it which will make their jobs easier and faster. Beta testers will be needed but am unsure how many we will need so just apply and we will consider who will become a beta tester when we get to that point.

Davideo7 : I thought you might be interested in what I am doing. This was inspired by the FF7 NES project. I was going to spearhead this myself but felt a team would be better. If I pay you viz, would you be willing to make an announcement about this please? I want to get the word about this out there so I can gather the best of the best of the rom hacking community. It's alright if you don't want to make an announcement but felt people would be more likely to notice this if it were one.

EDIT: I have upload some pictures showing what Littleroot town and Oldale town look like in the Gold engine. Here they are. Petalburg city is now done. Since the picture is really huge, I will just link to it here

I decided to abandon this project. Someone else has done this already.

Eirinn : Could I get you to close this down please?
