So, I have my notes in front of me... but the way this teacher lectures... well, let's just say that not many like her, and her Rate My Professor rating is less than 2.

Can somebody please teach me a simple way to go from quadratic to standard form?
Use 3x^2 + 6x + 4 if you need something to work out.

Thanks in advance.

First is this pertaining to circles? Where the standard form would be

(x - h)2 + (y-k)2 = r2

Or is this something completely different?

zanderlex : Pretty much, graphing a quadratic function using standard form. I think that's a proper way of putting it.

Oh, well if it's graphing too, I probably wouldn't be much help lol, equations were easy and fun but graphing was a nightmare.

zanderlex : Graphing isn't the problem... it's the converting the forms.

Your equation IS in standard form....

All like terms are together (x squared, x etc), the degree drops from left to right (highest at left, lowest at the right).

Standard form is Ax^2 + Bx + C

Not sure what else you need honestly....

geeogree : The a(x-h)^2+k form. The lecturer calls it standard form.

There's a reason she has a horrible rating for my class, and a 1.7/5 as a whole.

thing1 : I think what you are referring to is the vertex form.

http://www.virtualnerd.com/algebra-2/quadratics/solve-by-completing-square-roots/complete-square/completing-square-convert-standard-to-vertex

Try watching that and see if that helps answer your problem.

Well my professor taught us that the number one thing you need to learn with most equations is that you need to set them to 0 before you do anything else. With your example, it becomes
3x^2+2x+4=0
That way you can keep switching in and out between the sides. For instance subtract the 2x and add it to the right side, and do the same for the 4. It becomes
3x^2=2x+4
You can go further and do the square roots of both sides. So 3x=radical2x+2
Or something like that, as long as you set it to 0 first and then switch sides you can pretty much create any equation.

Do you mean quadratic to vertex? Because quadratic can be in standard form without solving anything apart from arranging stuff from lowest to highest (either the constant itself or the variables' powers ).

As for the vertex form, all you really need to do is to solve using the formula for h to get the vertex. I'm not good at explaining math stuff through typing, so I've written it on a yellow paper instead (with some notes and arrows for explanations). I've used your given equation as a sample. (3x^2 + 6x + 4)

Juliet :
zanderlex :
I think the video that
geeogree :  linked helped a bit. It might help me get a question or two right, so I'll be good.

I just wish this teacher actually taught us more than 10% of what we get tested on / have homework on.

And yeah, I guess I was talking about vertex form. Again, teacher not teaching properly.
