So like, this is a fanfic I guess of an Undertale/Mega Man X AU (It could go either way tbh) I created. I have no idea if it's been done before, and yes there are like a billion Undertale AUs but I did put a lot of thought into the AU. And I mean a lot. So basically Mega Man X characters switch places with Undertale characters, but the original cast is still in the AU- they're just absent for some reason. It's called Megatale X. I also have the series broken up into three parts- one where I explain what happened to the original cast, one where the reploids settle Underground and stuff, and the last where Frisk comes in and stuff. This particular chapter is focused on the second arc I guess you could say. I have no idea if ya peeps will like this at all, but I have had some people read it beforehand and tell me that it was good. *crosses fingers that y'all like it*.

-----

This is all my fault. I caused this. If I weren't here they would still be happy, everything would be fine. I should have stayed dead.

Zero didn't really care where he was going. He just wanted to be away. Away from everyone. He shouldn't have existed anyways but can't help that now could he? Right after the reploids were thrown into Mt Ebott, he ran. Past the puzzles, past the puzzled monsters who sometimes quizzically called out "Mettaton? Is that you?" towards him, and past the random tuffs of white fur spewn around. He didn't seem to notice how dust was everywhere on the floor and walls, or how disturbingly empty it was. He just wanted out, and away from everything.

Unlike Zero, X didn't run the instant he hit the ground. Instead, he stayed, lying down on the golden flowers, wondering how they weren't destroyed by having tons of weight dropped on them. It almost seemed like they were holding him up. X smiled. After all that happened today, seeing that the flowers were still alive gave him the energy to hope too. He looked around, and spotted his best friend running away from where everyone usually was. Gripped by a tight fear of losing his friend again, X desperately ran towards him, through the doorway and into what seemed to be an oddly purple ruin.

"Zero! Please stop! Please don't run away..."

Was this Iris who was saying this? X? I'm not sure if I care anymore...

"Get away from me!"

"I refuse to go away! You're just usually not like this..."

Zero stopped running and turned around. He saw a very determined, adbet tired X looking at him with those worried eyes.

You worry too much, X. Hah, I'd probably be worried too if I were you.

"Zero, I understand that it's probably frustrating that the humans we worked so hard to protect put us-"

he looked around his surroundings

"-in these old, purple ruins, but that's not an excuse to just run away. You do realize that these reploids still need you to protect them from any remaining mavericks and any possible threat here."

Besides, X thought, I can't do this without you. So much has already changed for the worse, don't force me to be alone too...

"I can't possibly expect you to understand, X. I... I haven't really told you everything. Partly because I never really knew it myself, until now. But, I need to stay away. I don't know why."

I had those- those weird dreams- right before we were thrown in here. That couldn't have possibly been a coincidence. Was it?

"That's nonsense, Zero. If you leave, then the reploids are gonna be even more disorganized than they already are."

X cautiously grabbed a strand of Zero's hair, and caressed it gently. Then he slowly combed out his hair, which has been ruffled by his desperate running and, recently, falling through a fake floor. There were definitely several puzzles around here, including the spiked passageway which Zero ran through without a second thought. X ran through it too, after realizing that in this case, there was no consequence to getting impaled by them. But it did worry him that Zero seemed to not care about his life or well being.

X's gentle combing and occasional nuzzle to his hair made Zero calm down a bit. After sensing that Zero wasn't going to take off running again, X spoke again.

"Besides, don't you think that it would be better to stay together than separate ourselves? And if you really do want to leave, can I at least come? I really don't like the idea of losing you again."

Zero frowned. But X, you would be safer if you weren't around me. I- I was created to-

"I... guess? But, can we at least get out of here? I don't know why but- it gives me bad vibes."

The emptiness of the ruins, save for a few frogs and flying bug things, didn't really seem right to him. It was supposed to be an abandoned area, but it seemed to have been occupied at one point. And someone has to have made these puzzles. And on top of all of that, he still didn’t know what a Mettaton was.

X felt rather differently. He has always wanted the world to be at peace, and have some actual peace himself, and these ruins were exactly what he needed. There was barely anyone here, and the creatures who were seemed friendly. X wanted to get to know all of these creatures, and he has already made some progress. There were things down here called "Froggits", and they seemed to be trying to communicate with X.

"That's odd, it's actually rather comforting here to me. But maybe you just don't like the idea of being in some ruin forever-" X playfully jabbed Zero in the midriff.

From the shock, Zero stepped backwards and walked into another fake floor. In the hole seemed to be a type of switch. When Zero flicked it, the spikes that were blocking a doorway went away. Zero climbed out, and saw X have this "I told you so" face directed at him.

Despite himself, Zero grinned. "Hey, I want to find a place that's at least a little bit open if we're gonna be underground forever!"

X smiled and started chuckling a bit. Zero seemed to finally become his normal self again.

"Knowing you, Zero, you'll probably devise a great plan to get us out of here in like a week! We'll probably get out in no time!"

Another jab. This time Zero was expecting it, and was preparing for some revenge.

"Don't count on it." Zero jabbed X two times.

X fell down and started laughing. The two then decided to have a jabbing contest, and went at it for a while, until they found themselves beneath a dying tree.

"Pffft Zero, you know you always do the impossible- hey, look there's a house!" X looked behind the tree and just stared.

The house in question instantly made Zero feel very safe, despite the bad feelings he had earlier. It seemed to have been abandoned, which still made Zero a little cautious but he had calmed down. Well, X probably helped wind him down quite a bit.

"Hey X, should we go in?"

"Why not? Doesn't seem like anyone's living there."

Pretty cool fanfic you've got here, ZeeTee! You did a really good job at writing this. I enjoyed this from start to finish. I can't wait to see where you go with the rest of this story.
