Unable to access menu on Majora's Mask

I haven't found a solution to this issue. No matter which plugin I run on Majora's Mask, I can't access the menu for setting controls. It says "Game supports PC Controller", but how? Could I use an Xboxone controller? Does it have to be a N64 to USB type thing? And even so, if I can't access the menu I can't set the controls. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If the controller is recognized by Windows as a controller, it should work.
However, there is no configuration menu for the N64 controllers in MUPEN64.
There might be a menu in 1964 if you press either Tab or Esc.
