What games have you started but put down and never came back to? Why haven't you picked them back up? I can probably come up with a fairly long list. 007: From Russia With Love, Airborne Troops: Countdown to D-Day, Bad Boys: Miami Takedown, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, Burnout Dominator, Extermination, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XII, any of the Gran Tourismo games, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Kessin, Max Payne 2, Midnight Club, Midnight Club 2, Medal of Honor: European Assault.... I'm actually going to stop there because I'm only half-way through the PS2 games. If I went through all of them, this would be an unnecessarily long opening post. Some of them I couldn't beat, some of them I just lost interest in, but I just kinduh stopped playing the rest randomly and haven't gone back yet.

Yeah, I did this with that game *points to every game in his collection*

Seriously I used to try completing any game I started, but the past year or two I've been getting them so rapidly that I never have time to finish one before starting another. Lol I was contemplating starting a thread about it, but you beat me to it again. Does that mean we think alike? If so, who should be more afraid, you or me?

To list a few:
Innocent Life
Shadow of Mordor
Legend of Kay - Anniversary
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
Grim Fandango Remastered
Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
Freedom Wars
Paperboy (N64)
Bard's Gold
Don't Starve Console Edition/RoG
Batman: Arkham Knight
Chariot

And seriously that's not half of them. In fact I have at least one that I've never even played (Citizens of Earth).
Like you, some of these I lost interest in (none of the above were too hard, but I've played a few that were), some I played once to try and never ended up having interest in at all, and some I just never got around to finishing despite being amazing games.

The main reasons for this are PS+ giving me between six and nine new games each month (I can't play that many! No complaints here thpugh! Lol) and my tendency until recently to go nuts during flash sales and buy games I didn't care much about but they were cheap so why not? Lol To my credit though, I've only bought one physical game in recent memory that I haven't finished.

Usually, those games which I become stuck in the Story. Leaving them for a while and then returning sometimes gives me better luck, probably because I learn skills from other games that I can put to use. Bomberman Generation and Pokemon Colosseum are the best examples.

There are also games which I cannot progress further, either because I lost motivation or they're simply too hard. I recently lost motivation in Trackmania Turbo, because the last levels are just absurd. Instead of making harder layouts, they simply raise speeds up to astronomical levels so you have a hard time controlling the car through rather simple layouts. Not worth my time, really.

And well, just like Eirinn said, sometimes I put down games because I find something else to play. Just like I put down Project CARS for acquiring KOF XIV, to mention the most recent example.

This is a good thread idea I like it. Lets see....I have a few but not much.

The legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
Crypt of the NecroDancer
Cave Story on the wii
Final fantasy 12 I stopped this game for a good reason.

I think those are the ones so far not unless I am forgetting others. If there are some others I'll post them up. Its not always easy remembering a game you started, and don't really end up finishing. People stop playing games, because either due to forgetting or stopping a game for a reason. I usually I guess sometimes go to other games to look for to play really.

Oh my, I've got quite a few games thinking about it. There are reasons for some games but others, I simply moved onto another game. I'll list a few for example's sake:
Hyperdimension Neptunia - Game is quite repetitive for me, I've been fighting the same enemies for 50 hours and the game just...Never..Ends...
Dead Island - I like this games but the little problems annoy me too much, especially when they pop up quite frequently.
Persona 3 - Time-limits pressure me, and on an RPG it's even worse for me.
Okami - I need to get back to this game. I loved it to bits and I have no idea why I have dropped it.

Those are few examples. I need to get back to some of them, especially Persona 3 as I keep hearing how good it is. But those time-limits maan.

Yeah I have a fairly long list of games that I have on the go but just never finished. Usually it's mainly due to school and having too much work to do so I just can't play them right now. Some other instances would be that I just simply got bored of the game or found something else to play. I'll try to come up with a list in my head and post it here.

Borderlands (This one is the most recent one)
Bravely Default
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Final Fantasy VII
Legend of Korra
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (So close to beating this one, I might pick it up again now that I think of it)
Okami

and those are just the games I can remember off the top of my head right now. I'm sure there is more if I think of it for a while longer.

I usually finish most games I have a genuine interest in, however, there is one popular game that comes to mind that I have yet to finish...

.....

If you guessed Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you are correct! I started this game in December of 2014, and I think I've picked it up twice in the past two years. I don't remember where I left off in the game, but I think I just lost interest and became overwhelmed with school and work that I just put the game down.

Who knows, maybe I'll pick it up again just to finish it. I don't like the idea of leaving things unfinished...

Not that many: Zelda Twilight Princess (I have forgotten why i dropped this back in 2007 but I reckon it was 9 year old me not sure what I was doing and just gave up). I will go play this next week.

Donkey Kong Country Returns:Rage quit and not sure where I left off. Probably won't finish this game any time soon.

Zelda Windwaker: Got bored and found another game to play instead.

Zelda phantom hourglass: wasn't a fan of the controls so I passed pretty early mind you that isn't much of an excuse now since I have recently beaten metroid prime hunters and the first trauma center game (first ever game to give me a hand cramp and also the game is very difficult).

Hmm...
Most of said games were GC games that I either lost or rented from Movie Starz as a wee lad.

I rented the following:

Pac-Man World 2
Animal Crossing
Cubivore
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Shrek 2
007: Nightfire
WarioWare, Inc: Mega Party Game$
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (My favorite GC game thus far. I started out renting it, but I bought it years later.)

I lost the following & found them in storage years later:

Super Mario Sunshine
Luigi's Mansion
Super Bubble Pop
The Urbz: Sims in the City
The Sims 2 Pets

Well, let's start off with a few important ones.

Pokemon Black (I'm literally at the last gym)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team (screw you moltres)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time (I got to like, the last dungeon but couldn't do it)
Golden Sun 2
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (last dungeon)
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (like halfway through the game)
Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded (Castle Oblivion is painful)
Kingdom Hearts: Unchained X (around quest 245 I think, I think there's 400+ quests)

And many others, but primarily those. I have a habit of starting a million games and never finishing them.

The list is pretty long but a few I can think of are...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Time loop confusion, where can I get the required items and where to go next?)
Mugen Souls (Stuck in an end game boss... Can't bother to grind...)
Any Pokemon game really (Takes me years to finish one to be honest.)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (I have no idea how to get past this trivial quest but I need to finish them all so I'm not playing at all.)
Alan Wake (That stupid bridge section I got stuck at ruined the game for me. Once I got through it I had already lost interest.)
The Witcher 3 (I still wonder why but I can't get myself to continue playing. It's a great game though.)
Stardew Valley (I loved this game but all the things I had to remember to accomplish in a day got a bit stressful and I couldn't continue playing)

Oh man. If I listed every single game I have picked up and never ended up finishing I would be here all night. I do this kind of thing all the time, be it from losing interest, or just things in life that keep me from finishing the game for so long it feels awkward trying to finish it when I have the chance again. That, or I'll forget so much about the game it's incredibly difficult to pick it back up where I left off, and I don't feel like going through every thing that I already completed again to get my self back in to the story or back to the skill level I was at when I ended up having to put it down.

Some of the more well known titles I can list are...
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Dragon Age: Origins
Gex ( for N 64 )
Banjo Kazooie
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy VI ( still mean to finish this one at some point lol )

... and almost every single game in the RGR I've recorded game play of. I almost always intend to do a full play through, and just lose interest a few hours in. Hopefully it will entice a few people to sign up and finish the games for themselves, so some good can come of it, but I highly doubt it lol.

Mynamescox44 :
You should be thanking yourself for not finishing FFX-2 that game is so awful XD.

Unfortunately, the game I never finished was FF6, I was around the area where you get the Kid as your ally(I think it was Gawo) or something like that.

Legend of Zelda OOT,  I've only beaten due to cheats on PJ64 but that's not legit.

Legend of Zelda Majora's mask,  I kept having issues with the blasted Water temple; I couldn't move where I needed to go, and guess why? Because I was using a keyboard and didn't have no gamepad back then.

IF I come back to majora's mask, I need to finish that game up and unfortunately start it from scratch.

I started the first Bubsy game a little bit ago, but only got a few stages in. I want to play it, I really do, but I can't get back into it knowing there's so much pain and misery to come.

In other news, I made progress in Re:Coded and so hopefully I can cross that off the previous list soon.

Personally I have never really been one to start a game and then not finish it. Of course it has happened from time to time, after all, I would be surprised to meet any gamer who can honestly say that there is no game at any point in time that they put on and then did not finish all the way through.

I know there are certainly a few games in my list that I would not mind being able to say that I have beaten. Here are some of the games that I started and never finished for whatever various reason. For the most part I probably just randomly stopped most of them.

   Demon's Crest (Super Nintendo)
Legend of the Mystical Ninja (Super Nintendo)
   Magic Sword (Super Nintendo)
   Soul Blazer (Super Nintendo)
   Shadow Man (N64)
   Quest (N64)
   Shining Soul (GBA)
   BlackThorne (GBA)
   Final Fantasy 8 (Ps 1)
   Final Fantasy 7 (Ps 1)
   Legend of Mana (Ps 1)
   Final Fantasy Lightning Returns (360)

Well that really is just some of the many games that I have started but never finished over the years. I tried to put a couple for different systems, didn't want to seem like a single system kind of gamer lol.

There is one game that the fact that I did not finish it kind of bothers me. Final Fantasy Lightning Returns. I made it literally to the very end of this game, I even cleared the extra dungeon that can be unlocked for doing enough throughout the game to unlock a hidden secret day. Despite how long I played the game for and how much I managed to collect, I have never been able to complete the final version of the last boss. I don't quite get it but there you go lol.

A few months ago, I started on a few new games when I participated in the Vizzed Retro Olympics. It was my first time playing any of those games but it was still a lot of fun even though I was not able to actually complete any of the games. XD Since a few of the games appeared to have a storyline, I hope to be able to finish them at some point in the future. lol In particular, I would like to see the endings for Ghouls 'N Ghosts (GEN) and Galaga '90 (TG).

This happened to me like 2 months ago with Pokemon X.

I officially hate those games. Tried to do a nuzlocke of it and I just quit by the time I got to perfume palace since I just hate the game and was not having fun. First time since Pokemon Dash that I've ever disliked a game that much.

I have to add a few more because a recent PSN sale put me in mind of it.
As a kid I played all off the Tomb Raider games on PSX with my sister (we would pass the controller back and forth). That's five games: Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider 2, Tomb Raider 3, Tomb Raider: the Last Revelation, and Tomb Raider: Chronicles. But we never finished any of them. We would get stuck for hours at one spot, return it, and rent another one. Lol

I was reminded of this because when the entire PSX collection of Tomb Raider games (minus Chronicles which doesn't appear to be on PSN) recently went on sale, I mentioned it to someone who gave me the money for them all and said it was a Christmas gift. In total I got four quality games for roughly $6.50. I plan to finish every single one of them now.

I've gotten much better at not doing this, and I rarely don't finish any game that I start.
That being said, I still haven't completed Final Fantasy XII to this day, after starting it about 6 years ago or so. I just can't bring myself to finish it. I often come back to it and am obsessed with it for a while, and then I go back to not playing it. Maybe I'll complete it someday. I think that I will.

Oh man, I have so many games in my shelf that I once started, but never finished. I guess if there are three that I regret the most and will probably return to in the future it's Sly 2, Alien Isolation and Dragon Quest 8.
