When the trailer for the first Fossil Fighter game came out many years ago I remember seeing it and being like "wow, that looks fun." I thought the concept was cool and that it would have been a lot of fun. I knew that I had wanted to play the game but I just never was able to get it and I forgot about it over time. I recently found a loose copy of the game in a Gamestop near me for under $3 so I got it and tested it out. I'll admit that it isn't as fun now as it could have been for me when it first came out but its still really cool.

GRAPHICS: 8/10

Some of the graphics are pretty basic and a bit weird looking, like some of the characters as well as some of the animations, which are in no way what most motions should look like, but for the most part, the game looks great. Some aspects of the design have good detail and the game is full of color. The best part of the graphics in my opinion would have to be the fossil battles. Many of the battle animations looked a bit broken but the dinosaur designs and the animations all looked really cool.

SOUND: 8/10

I really liked some of the music, mostly because it either sounds silly or catchy. Every time you talk to Dr. Diggins, there's his theme song and it quickly grows on you, while some of the other songs, especially some of the battle songs, are also fun to listen to. I hate the sounds that the game makes when you are cleaning fossils though, because the moment you hear one of the sharp sounds, you know that you did something wrong, but other than that the music and some of the sounds are great.

ADDICTIVENESS: 9/10

The task of going into the different areas and then finding fossils and coming back to clean then can be quite a bore at times but most of the time it's a lot of fun. When I first started playing, I absolutely loved cleaning, because you used the stylus to hammer away at the rock and then gently grind away at what's left until you have a nice shiny fossil and its like an awesome puzzle game and does take some skill. Battles are fun too and also have a few fun concepts when it comes to the battles to make the game challenging. If you don't have all the best dinosaurs, then you will find yourself playing for hours after you did what you had to until you got all of the dinosaurs and trained them as much as you could.

STORY: 6/10

I wont give away too much of the story but it revolves around your character going to an island that's known for fossil collecting and battling with your goal to be a fossil fighter master, through a series of level up battles, and encounters with various bad guys that want to steal stuff or just put people under curses. You know, normal island stuff. The story can get silly at times too and is pretty decent.

DEPTH : 9/10

The game has a ton to offer, whether its the large assortment of dinosaurs, dig areas, or battles. Just the fact that you need to go around digging up fossils and then cleaning them in order to get the dinosaur says a lot about the depth. The, the sheer number of dinosaurs adds even more to the depth because there should be more than 120 different dinosaurs in the game and each one requires the head to be revived but have 4 different fossils that you can use. Behind the different dinosaurs, there's a nice collection of dig sites to run around in and a nice collection of battles, whether story based, level up based, or just random encounters in the wild. The game has so much to offer.

DIFFICULTY: 6

The game can be quite difficult but the only way its really difficult is because of the cleaning aspect. Finding fossils and digging them up is literally the easier thing ever since you just need to press two buttons in total and it tells you where the fossils are. Battling is pretty easy too once you get the hang of it, but the real challenge is cleaning because you need to be so careful. If you use the hammer too much, your fossil will break. If you use the drill too much, the fossil will break. If you hit the fossil in the wrong place, it will break. If you run out of time, something just as bad will probably happen and you don't want that, so you need to be extra careful and will probably mess up quite a bit.

OVERALL: 8.2/10

Overall, this game has not yet disappointed me. If I had gotten the game when it first came out, I probably would have played it a few times over by now and loved it even more, but it's still a great game. It's chock full of adventure, battling, silliness, and puzzles and that's what makes the game fun. Overall I'll say that Fossil Fighters gets an 8.2 out of 10 and I bet that the sequels are even better.

This seems like a strange game; RPG archaeology? Anyway it does seem like a lot of fun, appealing to the eye and ear and there even seems to be a story! Good review Zander

Good job with the review, it's long enough to be good but short enough not to get boring. Hope to see more from you like this.
