Hopefully this is nowhere near as polarizing as my last post. It is simple. How do you feel about emoji and text speak?

I personally hate emoji and text speak,I think it is lazy. Now if you want to be cute or have a little fun at the end of a text,fine.

What is your opinion? (Slips on my level 4 body armor.)

I say things like ''lmao'', ''lol'', ''tbh'' and stuff like that a lot, although i definitely understand why one might find it lazy. It's a lot easier, especially if you're on mobile

This will be fun to see what the reactions are. I like the controversy because it means people are passionate about what they're talking about.

Me? I don't ever use emojis or text speak. I write things spelled correctly, I don't use shorthand, and I communicate via English (the American version, at least).

I understand the younger culture likes texting, likes emojis, wants to church things up and make written communication fun. That's fine. I don't hate it and I don't automatically criticize or think less of a person who uses text speak. But I won't do it.

I also feel that people are poor writers and need to find better ways of saying things if they have to use emojis to get their feelings and thoughts across. I know a picture is worth 1,000 words but use better words.

Anyway, i always say short things like "Gtg" or "brb" or "lol". So i could say i like to use that. But it all depends on my mood.

I say things like "lol" "brb" "gtg" and such like that, but I don't intentionally misspell words or type like "b4" "h8" u instead of you and such. Personally, I like emojis and a little bit of text speak to an extent. I don't really over do it.

It depends on what you mean by emoji. From time to time, I'll arrange a few characters to make some sort of expression, but I never use official emoji because they kinduh suck. When I'm goofing around with my friends I'll use a little bit of text speak but I never go overboard with it unless I'm half way making fun of people that overuse it all the time and I only use l337 when I'm being annoying. It's all in good humor. I'll also sometimes follow "Because" or "Do you even" with a noun instead of a verb. Example: someone doesn't know how to cook something and I reply with "bro, do you even food?" I know it's not the most intelligent thing but it's more playful than anything else. I like to think of it as it's own dialect That's unique to Internet culture, sort of like ebonics. After all, what really matters is communication. As long and you can speak and people understand and vice versa, I don't think it's a problem. It is a good thing to know how to speak properly when you need to, though.

As long as the person you are texting understands what you are talking about then I have no issue with text speak. I only use it when appropriate.

I'll use text speak usually only to make a joke, or if I'm sending a text and it starts getting too long or just because. I like to spell out my words and I do think text speak is making people lazy, I had to go over a 14 year old's homework recently and it was for their English class! They used 'u' for 'you' and had a lot of trouble spelling even simple words. When I was that I age I spelled better probably than I do now. 
I use a ton of emoticons though and even my mom does and she's in her 50's.  I don't think emoticons are lazy because they're just little things to make something look cuter or for effect. 
I don't get upset with how anyone writes though unless it's difficult to comprehend

Emojis are funny to use. I personally think they emphasize what you're trying to say, or sometimes even express your opinions/thoughts without the need of words.

Text speak, on the contrary, is a very bad idea. Whenever I'm at a crowded place and my phone starts vibrating because I keep getting text speaks from a group chat, I just want to set my phone on fire. Having to constantly adjust my phone's volume because of each person's pitch and tone is also a pain. It's much easier to read, and typing isn't that hard, come on.

The only times I've used text speak is to "record" the ambiental sounds for those instances when I'm asked where I am. This makes it so people truly believe me, and if I'm busy they leave me alone quite fast. 

We are all guilty stuff of like lol,gtg,pos,etc. As long as it is not overused or looking like an early 90's text or some kid that thinks he is 1337 would type. At least the early texts,I can defend that,you only had a set number of characters you can use and your text limit was far lower than it is today.

Now I am okay with an occasional emoji,but there are people that use them in place of words and it infuriates me. Maybe I am old and cranky,but if I want to see a bunch of pictographs,I will look at hieroglyphics or a register at a McDonalds.

Emojis are trash and anyone who isn't willing to talk like a normal person I can't really talk to. a "u" here and there is fine but don't go overboard with it.
I allow emojis if used ironically

Cap'n : That's actually my only real concern with shortening words. If they're used too much in place of actual spelling, it could seriously stunt someone's development in written communication. Rewind about two two years and I was a prime example.

I can't even do text speak that well. Excluding the obvious like "lol" "tbh" and the like, I can't text speak for the life of me DX. I'm guilty of shortening words like obvious to obvs and the like, but that really annoying text speech is just awful. It's also very annoying to read.

I'll admit, I'm guilty of using emojis myself. Well, more like making expressions like >, but most of the ones I use are turned into emojis anyways so... they don't bug me that much, except when they're used excessively.

I really wouldn't say I hate it. It can have it's place in a short reply or whatever, but I've always hated the HORRIBLE abbreviated text everyone used to use in text, and now it's descended even lower to the point where some people use the almost exclusively. Point is, if you do that on a consistent basis, I'm gonna be annoyed lol

As long as its something you understand its ok to use it, but not too much I sometimes feel I may overdo what I do with that. So I make sure it doesn't really happen all the time. If I don't understand what someone said to me I ask since not being used to the short words most of the time that people use really. 

I really only have a problem when people start to say it in real life. Like when my sister has to go to the bathroom and says: BRB! As for the emoji's, the only one I don't like is the one crying with laughter. It's just so damn obnoxius! But of course, I have no problem with dongers ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ﾉ
