Ever since No Man's Sky was released it seems that there is a very wide range of people's opinions on it. Mine is that it started out as a simple indie survival game which got way more media coverage than it needed and was overhyped. What's yours?

It's awesome if you don't run out of things to do, I watched my friend ply yesterday when he got the game for PS4 and it was a lot of fun exploring. I can't wait to get it myself for PC.

I didn't know it was overhyped and even after I started playing it I never read press about it, either negative or positive. So I don't think it was overhyped at all. I think it was barely talked about.

But I don't look at entertainment and video game publications all the time, either, so that might not be fair. No Man's Sky certainly hasn't popped up on any main stream conversations as far as I know.

Saying that, I think going into the game treating it like SimCity or any other simulation game with no 'ending' makes it so much more fun. It's not especially hard and it doesn't take long to pick up the controls and figure basic strategy out.

The no multiplayer at this time is what makes it not as fun. But all games now are geared towards multiplayer. Just because there's no additional friend option doesn't mean it's terrible. I know that has to be a criticism out there.

It's exploration, discovery at your own pace, and so far I'm enjoying my experience.

Ghostbear1111 : really? It was hugely covered where I live, that's kinda strange. I like the game myself but find it to be very hit or miss in the terms of interesting planets, though I really enjoy the exploration aspects. Refreshing to see a game like this in this age of shooters and Minecraft clones imo, though some things could be implemented to improve it further...obviously it's still early days so no knowing what's gonna come through that door

I think if I wasn't involved in the hype I would think it's a pretty decent. However, I was VERY hyped for this game and especially certain features that were, in simple terms, lied about.

I think the hype was mostly about the really cool features, though maybe not "unique", would be amazing in a game like No Man's Sky, such as multiplayer, ship fleet fights, etc.

The game isn't BAD. It's just missing a large amount of features that were initially promised to us.

The game is mundane and the developers are greedy. They lied about a lot of features in the game and released a broken pc port for $60. You mine the same 5 or so resources, fight animals and sentinels that dont stand a chance at killing you, and can't even customize your own ship. They didn't even bother to test their own preorder bonus which left many players stranded.
The game was definitely overhyped. It had the most players on at the same time compared to any other new steam game this year.

I love it.

It's a limited game, but it's come pretty much as advertised.

I do not regret spending 60 bucks on it, and anyone that does seems to forget that this is an indie studio. The game is going to have flaws.

I played it for like half an hour and it was decent.

I'd imagine it gets boring pretty quickly, though.

I've yet to play it, but I really want to. Honestly I don't get the reaction of the people that hate on it, I mean it's literally exactly what Hello Games said it would be. So many people bought into what article writers and such were saying NMS would be like that they failed to listen to the only people that actually knew anything about it - the developers.

I myself haven't played the game yet, but I do own it, I didn't buy it though. I will be honest, I pirated the game. Now I don't pirate many new games, the last game I pirated was Mighty No 9, the reason for that? I won't support Comcept for the shady garbage they pulled, and the developers for No Man Sky is in the same boat, they promised a lot of things and have yet to deliver, and pretty much they took the money and run. Eventually I will get around to playing the game, but at this time, I really don't have an interest. I feel bad for those that paid full price for the game only to be let down. One of my best friends bought it at full price, and hasn't touched it after the first 3 days he played it, and he spent 5 to 8 hours those three days playing it. He founds it to be very boring. It's sad that indie developers have to be shady, especially since I would rather support indie developers rather then big developers. It's devs like these guys, Comcept, and Phil Fish that give great indie developers a bad name.
