NES vs SEGA GENESIS: The Poll to Rule Them All.

Alright, if a lot of crap goes down. We need to come to a Breaking Point. IF we both have a 50/50. Breaking Point requires voters to factually judge the system, which I will post a thread for that.

Eirinn : Slightly off discussion, but I have to respectfully disagree with the PlayStation 2 being better than the Gamecube, and that's coming from a PS2 fanatic. If we're judging strictly by titles released, then the PS2 absolutely out does the GC, but every time I've played a game that was released on both platforms, the Gamecube version was far superior. It's design allows for a stream of air to pass all the way through the middle of the console, it has extremely solid construction and the controller is better in pretty much every way except the D-pad. One of the worst D-pads ever... Even the anti-piracy measure of burning and playing the disc backwards was a brilliant move except for the fact that they used a proprietary mini-DVD. We saw how similar approaches with proprietary media panned out with Sega's GDI and Sony's UMD.

m0ssb3rg935 : Oh I'm not saying PS2 was better spec or design wise, just that it was a more enjoyable system to have. And yeah of course GC played multiplats better than PS2 since (I hear) it had better specs. I have no argument there. I'm simply saying I didn't like the GameCube as a system as much because it didn't offer nearly as much by way of entertaining titles, and amassing a huge and diverse library is what PSX, PS2, and PS4 were and are all about.

I do disagree on the anti-piracy thing, but that really isn't an issue on the user experience side of things, so meh. Also I don't like the GC controller as much as I once did, but it's worlds better than Wii and Wii U controllers imo.

Spec and design wise I think SNES beat Genesis, but as fun and user experience goes, Genesis crushed SNES to me. I was assuming this poll was about fun and quality. Otherwise Genesis should kill NES in this since it's a full generation ahead and over twice as powerful.

I would definitely go for the Genesis, and not because it was my first console - I played the NES here and there in the past. Although the RPG selection was much better on the NES, the Genesis had much better graphics AND music. I always found Sonic more appealing than Mario (even in Sonic 1), and the Phantasy Star Saga had a much better continuation than the Dragon Warriors. Plus the controller was better adapted to my large hands than the tiny NES one.

To be honest it doesn't matter to me, I personally like both. Both have amazing games for their systems and that's what I primarily look at in a console, not how powerful it is with it's blast processing or parallax scrolling.

Dude. Come on. I mean, in terms of personal preference, this is totally up in the air. But, in terms of which system's library had a greater influence on the gaming industry, it's a no-brainier.

The Genesis doesn't have any games that can hold a candle to the likes of The Legend of Zelda, the Mario trilogy, or Metroid.

Nothing against the Genesis, of course. It's still a great system.

This is one of those polls where I think both systems were good game consoles. I still don't know a whole lot about the Sega Genesis, and the only games I've really played on the system were Sonic 1 & 2. Where on the NES there were many great classic retro games such as: the Super Mario Bros. series, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Kirby's Adventure, and probably some other classics that I'm forgetting. The Sega Genesis had better graphics and sound quality than the 8-bit NES, but the NES had more games that I'm very familiar with. Despite the Genesis' 16-bit sound and picture, the NES had more games to pick from. Taking that into account, I choose the NES over the Sega.

You're comparing the wrong era. NES didn't compete with Genesis, SNES did. If you're comparing NES to something, you'd have to go with the Sega Master System, which was what competed with the NES. Once Nintendo released the SNES, Sega came out with the Genesis.

I will not be voting in this poll, I just wanted to say that this is an inaccurate poll and should be revised.

As others have said before, wrong era. However, I'd still go the Nintendo route with this one anyway because even with the NES being 8 bit, there was a lot more variety in game selection than the Genesis. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, the Kirby's Adventure, Tecmo Super Bowl, and even the early Mega Man titles were better overall than the Genesis lineup with standouts being Phantasy Star IV and the Sonic games (aside from Spinball and Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine).

I think the NES is just more of my style. It's really kinds of games that are found on the NES as opposed to the Sega Genesis which I find more engaging, not to mention the fact that I'm more familiar with it.

Balloon Trip was it?

Mario bros. . . Zelda. . . Megman. . . Moses. . . Clu Clu land?

There are just more games that I'm familiar with and the common themes on the Sega Genesis could put me off at times. Although I did like Vectorman and Sonic.

I really wish I was a bit more knowledgeable on older titles than I currently am though. Ah well.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

To everyone who voted/posted: I accept that NES is the best, but for whom that said Genesis didnt have good games, I just wanna say some titles that are good and werent reconized for what they were: Rocket Knight Adventures, Earthworm Jim (Its a port, but I dont care), Sonic 1 2 3 and Sonic and Knux (With the lock on for 1 2 3 as well), Sonic Mean Bean Machine, those SEGA Blaster games. With that stuffis being said, Im closing the poll (Dont know how yet) and creating a new one .

-With hopeful regards,
