This is the official thread for talking about Smackdown. I feel like now that the shows are separate again that this makes sense. If people only watch 1 show or the other then they don't have to waste their time looking through talk of the wrong show to find someone talking about what they are watching.

I'll likely do regular updates of the show as it happens. Depends on how much time I have to watch the show and what not.

Here is my actual Smackdown write-up. I accidentally posted the Raw one here last night.

Smackdown Aug 2nd

That makes sense why this thing with Brock was such a big deal. Randy is on Smackdown. Makes this match a bit more interesting then.

Ambrose is coming out to the ring. Here is the typical back and forth exchange between the champion and the challenger. I wonder which one throws the first punch. I like Ziggler's fire in this segment. He hasn't been this good on the mic in a long time. Awwww, no fight? I thought these always ended in a fight. Bray Wyatt just came out and took out Ziggler. Interesting. Bray Wyatt vs Ziggler tonight? If Wyatt wins then he goes to Summerslam in Ziggler's place. If Ziggler wins then he proves he belongs in the main event.

Kalisto vs Baron Corbin vs Apollo Crews - #1 contender match for the intercontinental title. I'm impressed at who is in the match. Crews and Corbin are both new to the main roster which is nice and Kalisto is a major underdog so any of them could be good. However, I don't know if anyone should beat Miz yet. I don't know if anyone is as good as Miz is right now. Apollo Crews won the match! That's pretty awesome. He is really popular and probably good enough to win. It'll be interesting. Good match overall.

Becky Lynch vs Eva Marie - is there a reason why Eva Marie is back? What a joke. This is a pretty lame thing to do. Eva Marie is pretty lame. Just seems like a huge waste of time.

American Alpha vs Vaude Villains - I haven't seen much of American Alpha except the last NXT event they wrestled at but they seem like they've got a lot of potential. Wow, Jason Jordan is really strong! America Alpha looked awesome in their first match. I don't know if there is anyone on Smackdown good enough to take them on.

AJ Styles is coming out. Wow, John Cena is coming out too and didn't even give Styles 5 seconds to say anything. Who is on sound tonight? Cena's music sounds terrible. Styles and Cena at Summerslam.

Fandango vs Randy Orton - uh, this doesn't seem like it is going to last long. Hopefully Brock Lesnar comes out though. I can't imagine this being interesting otherwise. There's Lesnar! YES! Orton is not getting up as quickly as Lesnar did. Still, glad to see it happen. It would have been disappointing if it didn't happen.

Bray Wyatt vs Ziggler - I'm excited about this one. I wonder if they'll try and double DQ or some other fishy ending to make the match a triple threat match. This match started quickly! I honestly don't know who is going to win this one. It's going back and forth and I could see either result being possible. Wow, Ziggler won! I didn't know if they would let him win this one. I'm actually kind of glad. Pretty good match overall. Whoa, Erik Rowan just attacked Ambrose. Not sure why honestly. Maybe to set up for the next PPV so Bray can go for it?

Aug 9th

Bray Wyatt to start the show. I like that. Better than Raw's opening segment already Here comes Abrose now. Interesting to see where this goes. Looks like Bray is in the title picture whether he's gotten a shot or not. At least he is getting time with the champ. So, he's going to attack them 2 on 1? Oh, no he's not. Or is he.... he doesn't seem to know himself. Here comes Ziggler??? And he just went straight to the ring! And here comes Ambrose too. Still basically 2 on 1 for each of them because they went in separately. Whoa! Super kick to Ambrose instead of Wyatt! And Wyatt gets Ziggler in the end. Very nice! Outsmarted both of them!

American Alpha vs some nobodies - I really hope this isn't what the brand split is going to be like. People fighting nobodies instead of real tag teams. The Ascension is coming out! They aren't great but I'm happier to see them than the other nobody team. VaudeVillains are coming out too. Hype Brothers? One of them looked familiar but I didn't see who it was. These guys are pretty fun to watch though. America Alpha that is. They won the match and the brawl after the match too.

Becky Lynch vs Eva Marie - So, she didn't hurt herself but it seems like she has had a wardrobe malfunction and won't be having a match tonight. That's funny. This seems kind of pointless but I wonder where it is going. Open challenge from Becky and she just got Alexa Bliss. I haven't seen her in a match but she has got to be better than Eva Marie. Nice! Alexa Bliss won the match after Eva Marie came back out and distracted her. I liked her finishing move too. Better than just a straight out splash off the top.

Orton vs Del Rio - this has potential to be a good match but neither of these guys are at the top of their game anymore. Not a bad match or anything but it also felt kind of meaningless.

Heath Slater vs Rhyno - if Slater wins he gets a contract. And it seems like he isn't getting a contract this week.

Ambrose and Ziggler vs Wyatts - Ziggler with the win. Not a bad match. I was waiting for that though. Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds against Ziggler. Payback for the kick to the face I guess.

I saw the Slater/Rhyno match, and thought Slater's post match blow up at Shane and Bryan hilarious, especially once it became clear they were going to offer him a contract anyway.

Wonder if he shows up on RAW to try and get the same treatment.

I'm not a huge fan of him, but his storyline is the type of thing I hope to see more of with the brand split. Minor guys with little value getting a chance to boost their stock.

Smackdown - Aug 16th

Heath Slater is the new Damien Sandow. Interrupting the Randy Orton contract signing in the back with a stolen fruit basket. It looks like it might be Heath vs Randy tonight. That'll be funny.

Also, while watching the intro I remembered reading that Alberto Del Rio has been suspended for 30 days for wellness policy violations. Random but worth putting in. I don't remember what he was involved in.

Oh good, a Miz segment that got interrupted by Dean Ambrose before it got started. Haha, Dolph Ziggler did the same to Ambrose. I am entertained by this. I give it less than 5 minutes before the fight starts. Maybe not. Whoa! Kick to the face! I liked that. Heel Dolph was always better than face Dolph. He won at least 1 title as a heel and I really liked it when it happened.

12 man tag match - I can't even talk about this. However, after looking around I feel like the tag division on Smackdown as more wrestling potential than Raw. Raw has more charismatic teams like New Day and Enzo and Cass but Smackdown is going to be more interesting. Not sure if it really matters who wins though. Pretty clear who the face and heel teams are though. Oh look, the good guys won. Shocking

Naomi vs Eva Marie - wow that was a ridiculous intro for Naomi and apparently Eva Marie is not going to be wrestling for another week. This is getting really weird.

Styles and Del Rio had a bit of an interaction in the back. I guess the wellness violation happened after the show because he was on TV. I liked the way their interaction ended though. AJ points out how he is on the card and how Del Rio isn't. I guess Del Rio won't be missed on Sunday.

Randy Orton vs Heath Slater - HAHAHA! Randy is getting DQ'd so Heath won the match. I guess that means Heath is on Smackdown now. Heath is getting a pretty big beat down from Randy. Even a German Suplex and the back and forth hop and Lesnar does. I really hope this match lives up to the hype.

Erik Rowan vs Ambrose - seems like a typical last week before a ppv match. Some big guy beating up on the champ to "soften him up" before the PPV. And of course Ambrose won the match. I'm honestly more interested in what just happened with Bray and Erik.

Women's Tag Match - maybe I'm in a bad mood but tonight I just don't care about this match. Not that they can't put on a good match but I just don't care right now. Eva Marie is coming out now! What the heck???? Naomi has come out and is going to fight Eva Marie now. Becky ended up causing Natalya to tap out. That was pretty strange. At least the division isn't predictable right now.

Del Rio vs John Cena - AJ Styles is at ring side for this match. I'm sure he won't get involved though. Cena won the match and Styles attacked him when his back was turned. I can hear a "Thank you Styles" chant in the background. And look, John Cena came back from that match and put Styles through a table to end the show.

This show wasn't great either but I enjoyed it more than Raw this week.

Summerslam Aug 21st

Enzo and Cass vs Jericho and Owens - so far this match has been pretty good. Enzo getting thrown over the top rope was pretty fun. Wow! What could have been a pop-up powerbomb turned into a codebreaker. That was pretty awesome. Good match.

Charlotte vs Sasha - this match is intense so far. The move off the top rope was crazy. She dropped onto the back of her head. The replays are nasty for that. They are really pushing this back injury far. It's pretty awesome honestly. Whether intentional or not they are working the back well. Razor's Edge off the top rope? Nope! Sasha reversed it! Charlotte won! No way! That was honestly a surprise! Might be for the best depending on how hurt Sasha is. I didn't see this coming.

Miz vs Crews - I can't help but not care about this match. I think it could really help Crews but I don't know if he is ready to be champ. Miz wins. No surprise.

Styles vs Cena - this the match I've been looking forward to. I probably won't say much for the next 20 minutes I'm really liking this match but I actually dislike how many near-falls there have been. The match should be over by now. WHAT? AA off the top rope and AJ kicked out? I honestly didn't believe that would happen. Styles Clash!!!! Forearm! YES YES YES YES YES YES! Wow! It went longer than it should have but I'm SO glad that AJ won clean. This almost feels like a passing of the torch. Cena left that armband in the ring that says "Never Give Up".

New Days vs Anderson and Gallows - really? Big E returns from injury to interupt the match? I'm disappointed by this one.

Ambrose vs Ziggler - not going to talk much during this one either. Want to watch these guys. I remember seeing them on Raw a couple times and really enjoyed their work. Ambrose retains. Not really surprised. I like Ziggler but he's not champion material.

6-woman tag match - Nikki Bella is back?!? Wow! Doesn't make me care much more about this match but it's still interesting. Does this mean she goes to Smackdown?

Rollins vs Balor - well this match started quickly. I didn't really stop watching this match the entire time. Finn Balor won! I'm actually slightly shocked. I expected Rollins. This is pretty awesome.

Reigns vs Rusev - so, Reigns attacks Rusev and now the match isn't happening. Lame!

Lesnar vs Orton - Orton is taller than Lesnar. I didn't realize that. Wow. Orton is bleeding like crazy. I guess the match is over. Shane McMahon just came out. Shane just got an F5. This seems like a strange way to end the PPV. Sort of anti-climactic.

Smackdown - August 23rd

Wow, Styles went after Ziggler and Ziggler head-butted him. Interesting to see where that leads.

Here comes Shane McMahon. They talked about 2 new titles to be unveiled. I'm expecting tag titles and a women's title. Oh, pretty obvious that that is what is going on. They are blue versions of the existing titles. How original. Oh well, still glad that there are equivalent titles on each show. It's hard to have separate shows without titles. Sounds like they are all going to be awarded at Backlash. HAHA! Heath Slater is here. Heath gets a roster spot if he wins the tag titles by the end of the tournament. That's interesting. He's by far one of the better storylines on the show. Oh, here comes AJ and Ziggler just attacked him. Interesting!

Becky Lynch vs Alexa Bliss - match to see who goes on in the tournament for the Women's Title. Wow. Nice move out of the corner by Alexa Bliss. It looked a bit awkward at first but the move was pretty good. She's got some good moves. Alexa Bliss has some potential. OH, Becky Lynch just won the match. I missed that while talking about the nice moves Alexa Bliss was making.

The Ascension vs The Uso's - this is another match-up that the ending is predictable. The Uso's are way too important in WWE to lose to the Ascension. Having the Ascension win because someone interfered and screwed them over would have been way more interesting. This was predictable and boring.

AJ Styles is coming out now. I wonder where Styles goes from here. AJ Styles says he should be the #1 contender. Ziggler coming out to fight Styles. Ziggler vs Styles to determine the #1 contender. Wait what? If AJ wins he faces Ambrose. If Ziggler wins it is a triple threat. That basically means AJ is the #1 contender and Ziggler might be included. That sounds strange.

Carmella vs Nikki Bella - so, Carmella attacks Nikki and basically went on a heel turn and now NIkki is face? I guess? So, does this mean Nikki moves on?

Randy Orton is coming out to the ring now. Whoa! Bray Wyatt. Interesting. I didn't really want to listen to Randy Orton complain about the match at Summerslam. Sounds like Bray is challenging Randy. I wonder where that goes.

Also, interview with Shane in between segments and he says that the issue with Brock Lesnar is not over. I hope that doesn't end up with them in a match together.

Heath Slater tried to get Arn Anderson to be his partner and now Heath Slater and Rhyno are going to be partners. Strange but they could make a good tag team.

Brizango vs American Alpha - yet another match where the winner is obvious. Yup. American Alpha wins. No point in even talking about it.

Interesting. There is a lot of time left in the night and Ambrose is coming out to watch the AJ vs Ziggler match. Hopefully they get to use all this time for the match. Ziggler and AJ should be able to put on a good match. Ouch! Ziggler into the turnbuckle was rough. That looked painful. This match is really building well. AJ Styles won this match. Very nice. AJ and Ambrose face to face. I like Ambrose well enough but I want to see AJ win the title. Good matches were good. Predictable matches were boring.

It's been a while since I updated this thread but I'm updating mostly because of Backlash last night.

Overall I enjoyed the PPV. Only 1 match really fell flat for me (Bray Wyatt vs Kane). Everything else was okay or good.

Becky Lynch as the Women's champ made sense. She's been due for a while but having Charlotte and Sasha in front of her didn't help. Just glad Nikki Bella didn't win it.

Tag team - I saw Heath Slater winning that. It would have been awesome heat for the Uso's to cheat to win and prevent Heath from getting a contract but I'm glad they didn't do that.

Miz vs Ziggler - match of the night for sure. This is the kind of work both these guys were famous for earlier in their careers. If they can both continue to do this I could see them eventually both being in the title scene again legitimately. For now the IC title is a good level for both though.

Styles vs Ambrose - the more I see Ambrose the more over-rated I feel he is. And the more I see Styles (even in WWE) the more I like him. And of course he got his title win which I've been hoping for/expecting for a while now.

Overall I liked the PPV. The length was the best part honestly. Not having to watch 4-5 hours (including pre-show) in order to see everything was nice. I imagine the RAW PPV's will be a bit longer than this one was but I prefer the shorter format.

I'm surprised no one is replying to this thread much.

I didn't watch Backlash but I am glad Styles won the title instead of them dragging it out for many more months. The guy is at the peak of his game and his career right now so it's only fitting that he become the champion.

Becky as champion is also good. I feel like she got booked badly for a while as she kept losing her matches

Slater as tag champion is also very good. I guess the uso's are now heels? That should be interesting.

Wyatt, what can I say I find his promos boring and the guy always loses his matches. The same goes with Ziggler. It's hard to invest interest in those two because there just is no where for them to grow with their characters when the end result is always the same.

JigSaw : yeah, I'm really not sure why Orton needed to screw over Bray immediately.... unless of course they didn't have anything planned between these 2 guys after Backlash and so wanted to get the payoff right away. Seems lazy to me. Wyatt needs something good or he's going to end up disappearing.

Same goes with Ziggler though at least he had a good match with Miz and "only lost cause Miz cheated". Better than being beaten clean by Ambrose last PPV

I was wondering where the Smackdown thread was at. Great to see that there is one with Smackdown being the better brand in my opinion.

I really enjoyed Backlash more than I thought I would. It wasn't too time-consuming and it didn't drag onto boredom to me. The only downfall to me was that Wyatt vs Kane match. I am loving these outcomes that should happen and Smackdown giving the wrestlers a chance where credit and hard work are due.

If only RAW was back to 2 hours like Smackdown.

ghostfishy : there are threads for each show but I can't post in the other thread anymore. No admin status no posting over and over anymore.

Anyway, I agree about enjoying Smackdown right now. It is far better now than it was being re-runs of Raw every week.

Still, I feel like Smackdown has a bit more potential than it has shown so far. Trying to get the titles all sorted out and stuff. Thankfully though Styles is champ instead of Ambrose. Ambrose got stale really quickly.

I'd post in the RAW discussion topic, but frankly, until it becomes two hours long, I won't be able to keep up with it. Just way too much time to invest into something that's a tertiary hobby.

Smackdown is easily the better show because it has more guys I care about, is a shorter time frame, and has way more interesting and varied storylines so far.

Amend to that.
Smackdown just has the better scenes and it's unpredictable for the most part.




Raw on the other hand needs work in the following divisions:
Women's division has potential, but they refuse to allow Bailey into the Women's title Match(Even though she is really Over with the crowd atm)

Tag Team Division needs help,  without the New Day there's really no prestige to those belts.  That's saying a lot.


Mid-card development is strugglesome and annoying.    Resuv looks like a weak heel,   Miz on the other hand reinvited himself, and dropped a major bomb that got you interested and hated him.
Miz right now is the best example of what a heel Should be, yet WWE creative can't do the same for other heels that need it.



Even the USO's got turned heel recently, yet raw can't do the same to Roman Reigns.
