Have you ever read a newspaper or a magazine, whether it’s a physical one or online, and notice mistakes? Whether it’s something that’s spelled wrong, a word in the wrong place, or simply something that is wrong? It’s rare, because it’s essentially not supposed to happen, but it does happen at times, and I want to know what you think.

Back in the day, things like newspapers had to be very careful, they were giving you news, so they could not afford to have mistakes anywhere, but as of late, it seems that more and more mistakes are popping up in all sorts of articles. In fact, a study was done almost a decade ago that showed on average, in every 100 featured articles, there are 200 to 250 mistakes, and that out of every 100 articles, only about 10 of those mistakes were ever corrected.

I have seen this all the time, but I only really started thinking about this recently when I was reading the paper on July 4th. I was reading a sports article that claimed the day before, my favorite baseball team tied their team record with 5 Home Runs. Just by looking at that, I knew it was wrong, I went through old articles online and found that THE SAME journalist reported the team breaking their record with 8 Home Runs less than a year ago.

Did the guy who reported it not remember? Did he not care about actually looking for the facts? What the hell happened to the editors? They are supposed to be making sure that the newspapers give us real information. So, where some of the editors so clueless that they couldn’t simply look up the info to see that it was wrong?

But why are they doing it though? Are newspapers just starting to get so lazy because of people going online for their news that they just don’t care If there are mistakes? Do they simply not see a mistake when there is clearly one? Do the newspapers even care anymore or are they just moving along hoping that people don’t notice so that they can get by with as little effort as possible?

What do you think of when newspapers or magazines publish mistakes or false info? Does it hurt what you think of the paper and its credibility? Or do you just brush it off as a simple mistake?

It's pretty irritating when they publish mistakes like this. I mean their entire purpose is to give you legitimate information that is accurate, so not doing so, especially to the extent you described, is kind of intolerable. A few mistakes here and there are understandable (when it comes to things like typos or something that doesn't actually effect the information presented), and I'm sure the quality of physical news has dropped due to the increasing drought of revenue. Still, it's no excuse for some of the mistakes that are published. Maybe I'm just a perfectionist, but I expect a little better from something they expect me to pay good money for.

Yeah that would happen sometimes nowadays. It feels like no one care for that type of things like they did in the past. I would see some of that when I go out on buses where there are like usually one newspaper or two. Its actually quite sad this happens there are still people who read the newspapers I don't know what these types of journalists achieve by not at least trying to make sure their work looks perfect. Just because not many people in the world read newspapers as much as they did in the past. And to read from online; doesn't mean that they should get lazy by doing those types of things. That could really hurt the way newspapers are and its creditability. '-'

Ya. A lot of people do not check the facts before putting it in. It does not really matter though since newspapers are kind of a dying breed. So they probably do not even care anymore.

There are also mistakes in newspapers where people were just incredibly stupid to put it in there. Like this

While this isn't a newspaper per se,  a behavioral health center near me has a sign stating rules. One of these rules is something along the line of "Each person will refrain from taking drugs...." and it goes on from there. But unfortunately, it has a typo, so it says "Each person will refrain form taking drugs..." I did ask them about it, but the last time I went there, they still didn't correct it. So I guess I'll endlessly dwell over it.

awesomeguy279 : Oh my gosh, that's just hilarious. Apparently someone lacks some common sense. This makes me think back to something that I saw when I was watching a baseball game a long time ago. At the start of each game, they put up on the screen keys to the game, which are 3 to 4 things that the team needs to do in order to play well and win. For some reason, one of the keys was simply "Score more runs than the other team" I know that's what you want to do lol, but that's not how you do that and it's obvious.
