In any college or university, you are required to have a major in order to graduate at least. You may also need the requirements to increase your overall knowledge on a general subject by going into the specific details and hopefully you will start your career in the future as soon as possible.

What is your major/what major do you hope/think to do?

I still haven't entered university and won't for a couple of years but I've been trying to narrow down what major I want to pursue. I tend to rotate around a bit but currently I'm thinking either Political Science or Economics.

I've found myself preferring the social sciences to the natural sciences ever since late middle school even though I've done pretty well in both when I've had them. Simply because I find them more interesting and I like having to think more critically. Politics have interested me for a long time especially international relations and I always keep up to date with what's going internationally and in my own country. So it seems like a major that would naturally fit me but I'm not certain because it doesn't seem to actually lead to a lot of interesting or well paying jobs.

Economics also involves critical thinking and some math (which is another subject I enjoy) and macroeconomics which is the branch I'm primarily interested in is affected by politics as well so it feels like it could fit me. It's also a major that seems to lead to more well paying jobs in comparison to political science which is part of why I'm considering pursuing it in stead.

In my current college, I believe that ny major is something along the lines of Public Health and Recreation, and it has a concentration in Sports Management, which is what I want to do. In the college that I went to before this one, my major was just Sports Management, and it was a major sports school. Its cool that my plan was to go to that first college for that major for all 4 years of high school and before. Even though I didn't get to finish it there, it still worked out so that's really cool. Hopefully I can get a degree in not too long though.

I am currently hoping to end up majoring in law. Prosecution if you want to be specific. I made a good grade in Principles of Law, and I think it's the perfect career for me. Lots of my family members said that it's perfect for me as well, and even some people I know here on Vizzed say that it's a perfect fit for me. So I really think I can do it. We'll just have to see how things turn out in the future.

Right now I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I enjoy what I'm doing, even though it's ridiculously hard at times, and I went through hell to get into the program, so I don't think I'll be changing majors any time soon. I still have two years to go before I can get my bachelors, and I'm not sure whether or not I'll pursue a masters degree, although I more than likely will end up doing that.

Not in college yet but the major I'm planning on is biomedical engineering. I'm absolutely intrigued with prosthetics specifically, and I know I'd live a happy life working on those for as long as I live. College is only a year away (unless I take a year break) so I don't have much time to change my mind if I wanted to do that.

Zlinqx : it's great that you want to be well balanced especially when a lot of people cannot do that including myself. Many people in the United States are slowly increasing to go into the medical field either by force, high paying salary or a few handful who truly love it. You said it doesn't seem to be in your interest to be in the natural sciences and social sciences in Sweden due to the variety amount of jobs. If you were to go in that field, just think about inside out. It would be great to mix economics and politics if that is what you truly want to go for. I don't see many people in that field so that would be interesting to know more information about. You still have time to figure it out so you don't need to rush on your decision. I would recommend that you would try some sort of experience in a field that you're interested in before you make your decision for your future. If you do go into politics, all hail the Stunfisk movement!

zanderlex : That's great to know that it worked out for on the long run despite of not finishing it from the beginning. I have a friend who is in that field so that he can become a future coach of some sort.

Lexatom : Wow I wish I had that sort of feedback. I had to figure out everything on my own like most people do on what they want to do on the long run of their futures. Law is one of those fields that needs to be fixed if you live in the United States like most people do.

megamanmaniac : I remember us chatting from previous streams about you suffering in that field. I am glad to hear that you are still alive somehow like I am. I have a friend in the same major as you do and she isn't planning to do her master's degree since she wants to work with improving air ventilation in new homes. I am not sure if you necessarily need more a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

Minuano : That's an interesting field to go into. Prosthetics is slowly building its process at the moment and it's great that you would like to work on it more. If biomedical engineering doesn't really suit you out, don't beat yourself on that. Many people have gone into majors that they don't want and they end up changing it into something that they really want to do in their careers. Don't be afraid to change fields if it is something that you don't want to do (if it ever pops up in your mind)!

I'm currently a Statistics major, but after this semester I'll probably commit to either an Econ major or Math major in addition to the first major.

ghostfishy : Chances are that I won't need anything more than a bachelors to get a job somewhere considering the high demand for engineers and the versatility that comes with the mechanical branch specifically, but the experience that comes with pursuing a Masters as well as the potential long term benefits (more job opportunities, better pay, management positions, etc.) are the main reasons that I'm looking into it. My school has a program that would allow me to get my Masters one year after I get my bachelors, and I may end up applying for it this semester (haven't decided yet though).

Most recently, I was a criminal justice major.
Before that, information technology and before that, architecture.

ghostfishy : Yeah I want something that's a good balance between something I know I'll actually find interesting but at the same time pays well. The problem with a political science major seems to be that while there's a few that go on to get really interesting and well paying jobs the vast majority end up with low paying bureaucratic jobs if they get one. There's already a lot of competition since it's major many other people pick. Economics seems like it could be a good pick because from what I've seen out of all the social science majors it on average leads to the most well paying jobs. It's also one of the less popular due to the math involved (at least in the field I would pursue) which I don't really mind since unlike a lot of people picking it math is a subject I really like. Before I had decided what path I wanted to go I was still considering some math heavy majors (mathematics, computer science, physics). I've also considered law but I don't really think it'll interest me too much.

Either way I'm going to take some classes in some of these subjects before its time to pick so hopefully that should help me figure out what degree to go for. No one in my family has attended university so I'm pretty much on my own in figuring out what major I should pursue, which is why I'm glad the Internet exists or I'd probably never figure it out lol.

Well, I'm not even in high school yet, but I hope to get a degree in Linguistics. I have no clue if I'll even come close to getting it though, Only time will tell.

When I was in school my major actually used to be performing arts. I had high hopes of maybe going to drama school or work in a theatre as well. But that went out of the window due to my illness. So my major now would be as a jeweler as in making beat jewellery and as a baker which you know about. Its kinda sad when I think about collage days. Anyways I plan on going to another baking school to learn other things among the things I have already learned. :/

Well, when I was younger, I never really put much though into my future since I didn't really see myself living past 30 with the lifestyle. Anyway, seeing how things have played out, I would really like to go to school to be Veterinarian of some kind. I love animals with a passion, and I'd be more than happy to help them out when they need professional care. That, and I don't have the patience for human medical care. It's just too hectic of a schedule, and I don't like dealing with most people.

Currently I'm a computer science major. I have learned python and java the last 2 semesters and I really like it.

Ever since I was a kid, I always had a strange interest in doing strange things to computers. The first thing I did when I was a little kid was browsing a hard drive of an old Windows 98 machine. Eventually I deleted system32 and my parents went insane when the computer stopped working. That's when I wanted to learn coding in college.

Anyhow, I now explore some old software and do research about something. (while trying to code something never achieved before) So far I like my major and I hope I still continue to like it. I've heard many stories where people didn't like computer science and they had to change their major.

I'm planning on majoring in political science, I'd like to start my own political News channel or be hired by an independent News outlet.

I'm very confident about my major in Accounting. The moment that I found out that I was really good in math ( in 5th grade is when I started actually being in advanced classes ) I knew that I wanted this to be my college major. Currently I only have my Associates Degree but I plan on continuing my education to get my Masters. I graduated from Georgia Perimeter College ( 2 year school ) in December of 2007. Honestly, I can't wait to keep taking those more advanced accounting classes like I did at GPC.

Life happened to me. I got married, bought a house, and I'm working a full time job that I absolutely love right now. So the Masters Degree has been put on hold for the moment. But its one of my life's goals to get a 4 year degree, and I guarantee you that I'll get it!

MattyIce : Accounting was fun, I finished a basic class last semester and I was able to learn so much stuff about it. Though I probably failed because if a problem with the online section that the professor didn't want to fix until it was too late.

Before I started the program, I always thought that accounting would be both boring and hard, but now I'm beginning to think that I would be comfortable doing something in the field and would even look for jobs around it. Though it still seems just as hard as when I started lol.
