Mega Man ZX was released for the Nintendo DS in September 12, 2006. Mega Man ZX is the start of a brand new series in the franchise, that is quite possibly my favorite series in the franchise. I said possibly for a reason, though. I'm not entirely sure if it's my favorite series in the Mega Man franchise or not, so hopefully by the end of this review I finally figure that out.
Graphics - 8 The game's graphics come in a wide variety. Sometimes I see the graphics sort of choppy, but most of the time I can see them completely fine, although a little too much pixelated. I also sometimes have trouble figuring out where I can and cannot stand on platforms, although this is very rare. Other than that, there's really not that much else to say about the graphics, besides the beautiful backgrounds the game gives you. Sound - 10 Mega Man ZX features my favorite soundtrack in the entire series by far. I adore almost every single song in this game. And to add on to that, they released another soundtrack titled "Mega Man ZX Tunes" that has a remix of every single song in the game. Absolutely amazing. I highly recommend that you listen to the soundtrack this game offers and tell me what you think of it. Now that I think about it, I think Mega Man ZX might just be my favorite soundtrack. You've already heard me boast about the music enough, go listen to it yourself. Addictiveness - 7 This game, honestly, I can't tell whether it's addictive or not. I don't know if it's just me forgetting to play it or if I just don't feel like playing it. I always have trouble with the addictiveness section, and I'm not entirely sure why, I have found myself coming back to this game a lot, but I also have found myself staying away from it for a while. Story - 9 The Mega Man ZX series takes place about 200 years after the events of the Mega Man Zero series, and it contains many familiar elements from that series, except that they are a hundred times better. In addition to adding more to the previous story, the character you play as and even some of the characters you meet have an interesting backstory as well, completely new and original. There may be some plotholes, but most of them were filled in with this game's sequel, Mega Man ZX Advent. Even though we are still left with a cliffhanger at the end of Advent.... Depth - 8 There isn't a TON of stuff to do in this game, but it's enough to satisfy me at least. You can collect every data disk, which is basically like a gallery of enemies or characters in the game, or you can collect all the Sub-Tanks, which store life for you when you might need it the most. There are also many side quests to be found in the game, but some of those side quests are honestly the most stupid side quests I've ever seen. There are some good side quests from time to time, though.
Difficulty - 8 Mega Man ZX has two difficulty modes: Normal and Hard. Normal mode is the easiest mode, obviously. It's as you would expect a Normal mode to be. Hard mode is MUCH harder, of course. Enemies deal more damage, there's less life to be found, etc. I'm not that good at this game so I personally stay away from that mode. I tried it once, but no thanks. If you feel you're up to the challenge, go ahead. I'm just warning you that you may or may not rage a little. Overall - 8.4 Well, I still don't know whether the Mega Man ZX series is my favorite series in the franchise, but I prefer the sequel over this, so perhaps after I review that game I'll figure it out. Anyway, if you're a Mega Man fan, play this. If you're not, it might be for you, but it might not be. All I can say is try it for yourself and find out whether you like it or not.
