Overview: Sky kid. An underrated adventure, honestly. This WW1-themed game sees you and a second players as classic fighter pilots attempting to bomb a certain location, and avoid enemy fire. Let's dive into it.
Controls: You use the joystick to move in eight directions. While you will always be facing your left, you can control the plane's adjustment. You use your first action button to shoot. You have no limits in ammunition, and you fire three shots maximum. The bullets dissipate when they do not touch absolutely anything. They also travel left, and depend on your given angle during flight. The other button is for looping. With it, you can avoid potentially dangerous encounters, but also open yourself to oncoming enemy fire. Use cautiously.
Gameplay: As the Red Baron and the Blue Max, your job is to bomb a given target at each stage's end. You also need to attack or avoid enemies, and reach the runway. You travel left continuously, while dealing with several malicious enemies. Mook planes have three consistent strategies; Direct combat, where they directly attack, tailing, where they follow you to screw you over, and crafty sneak attacks, where they appear behind you to confuse you. Other types of enemies include Commanders, who drop several bombs, Trucks, which are defenseless, Tanks, which fire in front of you or at a notable distance, Rapid cannons, which fire explosive projectiles of four, Boats, which safely attack from underwater, Submarines, which constantly conceal their presence, Artillery Balloons, which fire four times and are quite dangerous, and Mini balloons, which are compact and fragile. The deluxe addition adds two enemies; Jets and Thunder Gods. Jets drop bombs and attack indirectly. Thunder Gods shoot lightning and are very difficult to handle. As you can see, this game is creative. 8/10
Graphics: The graphics are simple yet elegant. Everything looks and just sounds appropriate. 8/10
Sound: The music and sound effects are quite lovely. It just molds together. 8/10
Addictiveness: This game is enticing. It's pace and variety leave you asking for some more. 10/10
Story: Not much of one. You are two WW1 fighter pilots who are bombing excessively. 2/10/
Depth: Despite it's inherent simplicity, this game shows shades of depth. You will be bombing, outmaneuvering, gunning, and cautiously moving forward. 10/10
Difficultly: This game is challenging. Enemies will rush and outnumber you, while you are busy bombing something. Lots of strategy is truly required. A ambitious effort, indeed. 8/10
Sky kid is sublime. Play a round for a blast. It's really quite different. A game worth playing. 9.4/10
