I've had atrocious posture for most of my life until recently. I was a sloucher and my neck would stay in that hunchback position, putting so much stress on it in the process. Finally, I realized it looked pretty terrible and that it was affecting my fitness about a year ago, so I started working to fix that. It was probably one of the best decisions of my life, and it's easier to breathe, my neck doesn't hurt anymore, and people notice it. It was hard at first, but over time I naturally straightened. I fixed it before it could do any serious effect on my spine. I slouch only sometimes now, and when I do, I straighten right back up when I notice.

So, taking that into perspective, how is your posture? Slouching and computer-necked? Or a good, confident, straight spine? And honestly, how many of you guys immediately sat up straighter when you saw the title?

P.S. If you have that hunchback posture, this video can really help. You notice the difference almost immediately.

My posture is poor. I always sit or stand in a hunch, with my spine bent. My neck droops down, and my head is slightly disjointed. I have selective mutism, so it's not uncommon for me to walk in a strange way, with my head down, eyes never making contact, my hands moving around all over the place, and my jog getting stunted based on how I choose to walk. It's really a pain.

I have outstanding posture. I'm American, born in the Detroit area, but my mother is off-the-boat Polish so I could get cracks if I weren't standing up straight as a kid. Then I joined the Marine Corps and they straightened my almost ramrod straight spine.

Now that I've found myself in the world of fitness center operations, I realize that form is the most important part of lifting, exercising, running, and sports. The form and footwork make everything more efficient so I've learned to be aware of stacking my vertebrae one on top of the other, and hold my core in such a manner that I'm straight up.

I'm only 5'6 (and change) so if I stand taller, I'm almost an average height male. I strut and put my confidence into my posture so I seem taller but I need every millimeter I can get.

My posture is on point.

Mine's pretty bad, but probably not as bad as yours. I slouch quite often at my computer, but I haven't noticed any negative lasting effects so far. Maybe occasionally my back will get sore, but I'm not too worried about it at this point. ...just slightly worried.

I have a bad office chair and my monitor is far from eye level.... I'll likely be a hunchback before long. Of course, I bad mattress and pillow don't help much, either. And yeah, I sat up straighter.... I'm going to have to make a mental note to do that more often.

Pretty eh. I know that posture is important and all that, but I honestly don't notice it at all. I tend to slouch on the computer though, and my mom sometimes makes me sit up straight. I never really noticed any problems with my back or neck, but my back hurts from time to time when I have long sessions on the computer.

I guess I should start sitting up straight soon, though. I may be young, but I won't be young forever, and apparently I like to stand with my shoulders hunching forward so I guess I should keep my shoulders straight as well :p. It's just that at times bending over slightly is more comfortable than being straight so... xp. Doesn't help that I tend to sleep sideways and I don't exactly keep in a straight line when I sleep.

I'll have to try this out sometime...

My posture is awful... Simply because I lean forward when typing due to not having a desk and literally sitting on the floor with a keyboard on my lap whilst my monitor is above eye level so i have to look up to see it... and then there's the 24 years of walking on my tiptoes... my posture is so bad that i actually get a lot of pain just by walking/standing.... so yeah... fun times.

As a child, there was always someone that would poke me in the middle of the back or between my shoulder blades whenever it looked like I was trying to slouch. I barely remember it (that's how young I was), but that person would always correct my posture (adjusting/moving my shoulders back, making me hold my head up high and everything) until the resulting posture I use even now is my natural posture. (Very strict, yes? oO ) I never paid much attention to how my posture had been affecting me until someone complimented me on it about a year ago. At a luncheon, they suddenly interrupted the conversation to tell me that I had the best posture they'd ever seen and that every time they looked at me, they felt the need to sit up a little bit straighter. XD They've met the person that helped me to adjust my posture (that person has the best posture out of everyone I've ever met) but they probably only looked more closely at me because it's probably a bit unusual for people my age and younger to not be slouching... D=

A few months ago, I also realized that many of the people around me would often complain about backaches, neck pains, sore arms, shoulder pains, cramps and other ailments that I never get. I attribute my immunity to using the posture I was taught and using it while sitting, standing, walking, etc. To this day, I am still extremely grateful to that person (who also never has those issues) for having corrected my posture so many years ago. Sadly, I can't really teach others how to obtain that posture the way that person did (I can only demonstrate it by walking up to someone in person oO ). Therefore, thank you very much for posting this video. I know some people might laugh at the "flap your arms" or "cover your ears" parts, but some of those movements/exercises actually remind me of a few movements from certain martial arts routines, so I'll be trying this on a friend that always slouches to see if it helps them. =P

I have to constantly remind myself to sit and stand up straight before I get those sharp headaches - as if someone were pulling my hair from the inside. My husband thinks it looks exaggerated (and I'm sure it does at time), but it's the only way to NOT end up like Mr. Burns.

One easy trick for posture I was told: try retracting your shoulder blades and if you wanted them to touch each other. This way you will inevitable stand up straight.

It used to be terrible but I'm improving a lot due to weight loss and just generally keeping myself straight when I'm standing or sitting. I always stand up straight but sometimes you can catch me slouching when I sit on my bed, which is where I usually am lol. In fact this thread reminded me to straighten myself up considering that is where I am...

Mom says I had terrible posture, but that was like 8 months ago ever since she said that, and it was when I was depressed. Since I'm not depressed anymore, I find my posture to be alright. Whenever I'm in the computer chair, though, I prefer to lay back and relax while my computer is still on the desk, shows you how lazy I am.

While standing, my posture is average. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but I really don't think I slouch much or hang my head or anything.

While sitting, it's god awful lol. Always bent forward with my body's weight resting on my spine. It's probably part of the reason my back hurts like it does. I sit on the edge of my bed most of the time so there's literally zero lumbar support for me to use. At least I keep the laptop at almost eye level so my neck doesn't droop

At least when I sleep, it's on my belly with the pillow under my head and chest, which arches my back the opposite direction. I would imagine it helps to some extent, considering I sleep that way specifically to relieve some of the pain.

I stand up straight, but I usually sit in my chair in a very slouchy manner. My chair actually is pretty tall so it's easy to sit straight up in it, I stand straight up because I would rather look decent while walking around. My brother walks around with a hump back type slouch, it's really ugly, but I think that may be fixed now that he went through job core.

My posture used to be really bad. I was slouching all the time, because I wasn't confident and felt out of place. My head was down, my hands in my pockets, and shoulders slumped. All that bad stuff.

But now my back's straight, shoulders back, head back, all that. xD Life is good to me now. I still have trouble synchronizing my hands to my walking though, my right arm wants to move a lot more than my left one.

I have pretty bad posture while standing since I often lean forward I guess partly due to being a tired a lot of times has lead me to do so. Also because I simply spend a lot of my time looking down especially when I was depressed due to being bullied which lead me to doing so without even noticing. It's on my long list of things I could improve on. No one in my family has ever commented on it so I became used to it. Maybe I'll try the exercise some time. It used to be even worse but it got a bit better during a summer job I had since I was forced to try and stand straight while there.

When I was in school, I slouched in my chair a lot of the time. Its not like I was bored in school or anything like that...its just that position felt the most comfortable to me and I didn't think anything of it at the time. So now I get to pay for it by having a little back pain every once in a while. And I know that the older I get, the worse it will get. Right now its not too bad yet. I usually take some pain pills and I immediately start to feel better. In high school, I was in ROTC so I know what good posture is supposed to look / feel like.

I guess the bottom line is, my current posture isn't perfect. It could be better...but its not that bad either.
