It's great that you want us to support the website, but really, I've kept ad block on for vizzed for 2 main reasons:
1: Those rollover ads that you accidentally activate and the exit button is gone
2: The fact that the ads tend to most of the time bog down the performance of my PC, a lot.

supersonicracing123 : It does the same for me, as well. I try to think of it as a donation of my time.

I just took vizzed off the whitelist and almost immediately after clicking the RGR, I got a message saying to disable it to play games.

If that isn't clear enough for someone, I dunno what is.

Edit-Forgot to mention, I use AdBlock Plus.

I'm still experimenting with all of this. If the site takes a traffic drop or a revenue drop because of this decision, I will remove the requirement but keep the message up as a reminder for users to disable the ad block on Vizzed.com.


I've also dropped the price of the Ad Block items so that they're more affordable. I also like the idea of making it possible for someone to donate $25 or $50 and being able to afford the ad block items just from donating.

EX Palen : I agree that some sites do deserve it. So many sites do 1 or more of the following in order to milk as much revenue from ads as possible:
1. Flood the pages with ads, resulting into the page slowing down
2. Using ad networks that potentially pay a lot but have ads with potential malware
3. Adult ads (which are some of the highest paying ads)
4. Annoying ads such as full page ads or popups

I've always made sure to not go overboard with the ads but to use enough to be able to fund the site.


geeogree : Yeah I had that issue as well. I installed ad block (never previously used one) for testing purposes and I got the message I think twice but I haven't had it since.


supernerd117 : I haven't seen dirty ads. The only time you're going to see potentially dirty ads is if you've been on dirty sites. Sometimes the ads are based on your browsing history and cookies. I don't have too much control over that message either since it's just a script I found on the internet.

Davideo7 : Most of the dirty ads have been ads for games or gaming sites, and are usually limited to just a few types. I visit a number of gaming sites frequently, mainly to read reviews and stay updated on game deals. I also watch a number of gaming channels. I'll try disabling Adblock for a while and see what happens. I'll let you know how it goes.

Davideo7 : Chrome bogs down performance due to these ads. I could be watching YouTube and it would be ok for what this computer is, but with these ads on the RGR page? My god!

Never really did have adblock on vizzed since A. I wanted to support the site in even smallest way I could, (since couldn't donate due to paypal being only option, and family didn't want me to use that service) B. The ads aren't even that bad and have never really received a malware/adware threat from vizzed ever, so never felt threatened by having it off. (but have from youtube/google a couple times) and C. whether it's in the game or on the page it's only a few seconds or so if even a timed one at all...it's not really all that bad in my eyes in comparison to some websites you see where they have flashing messages covering about 80-90% of the screen.

Plus like you said with that ad block item for the store is another reason to have it be plausible for those "users" whom need them off for performance so is a no-biggie issue here from what I can see? It's not demanding of you in my eyes David since can still use the main website fine if is on, and really expect this place to run on nothing anyway? May be annoying to some but is better than not being able to use it at all in my eyes.

supersonicracing123 : The current ad companies I'm using don't have adware. I'll admit that there have been ad companies in the past that I've tried out that may have potentially been capable of having adware but not these.

Another full supporter of this feature being far overdue on this site. The ads here are by no means nagging or otherwise intrusive. There are no porn ads, seizure causing blinking ads, pop-ups or pop-unders. I can understand the "need" to use blockers on some sites that scream at you or use browser lock-up and virus scams, but not here.

The old days of the Internet with almost no ads were great, but everything costs a lot more now, and it is sites like this one that need ads the most. While it is true that ads have gotten out of hand (in some cases by necessity), ad blockers have spoiled people. It is easy for people to complain about ads when they are just visitors who do not have to invest anything and instead only take, take, take.

Surgiac : Nope. Of course clicks pay way more than a view but asking people to do clicks can result into ad account suspension so that's why it's one of those topics that most web developers avoid talking about lol. Just viewing the ads is enough to generate revenue.

Alatus : I see your point, as it is also my own for many circumstances. For concerns such as yours and to address others who might feel the same, I assure you the ads are hardly noticeable. My AdBlock used to malfunction on Facebook and THAT was quite irritating. That site has a completely different feel when loaded with innumerable advertisements.

Now have you ever noticed the bar that says "sponsor" on the bottom of a Vizzed page? Or the empty box-like area on the main page or a profile page? Well, that's IT. Those are literally the only areas where there are ads on Vizzed.

As a generally paranoid person and 24/7 AdBlock Plus user, I approve of this move and really don't see how it could affect anyone in a negative manner. I've had Adblock turned off on this site since the first announcement of such a while back, but of course it is your choice to do as you wish.

He is trying to keep the site running for those of us that still enjoy it, Im afraid at this rate, someday soon the big man is gonna end up having to close up shot on this website, I hope he can find a way to get some traffic before that happens, I love this website and I love coming to play a round of Sonic the Hedgehog or Megaman, Nintendo did their thing but there is always Sega, I play Shining Force, there is still fun to be had. If you wanna be a whiny tart thats your business, but you are a fool if you think this is a selfish decision, he develops this site for free, he has to support himself and his life, and pay for this website, which isnt cheap, and whatever else he has going on, be considerate before you decide to quit.

Hello, I have always disabled Adblock for this site but after this announcement, usually when I play a new game or open a new page on this site, the page asks me to disable adblock and has the button "I have disabled adblock".

I don't THINK I have AdBlock, but I'm having trouble getting the RGR Plugin to load today (and I haven't had any trouble with it lately).
