What would happen if...

...humans would push/pull a truck one mile, and how many humans are needed for that?

I've been wondering this since two days ago, because if a truck has no gas and needs to go one more mile before it's destination, and someone decides to help the truck driver, how many helpers does this person need, including himself? Let's find that out.

I will try to think of several questions which may have a possible answer, or not. If you want, you can help me think of a question and i'll use that one. Perhaps if i know the answer to your question, i'll put the answer in the thread too. Think about the main rules on Vizzed before posting a custom question. We (You, the society and me) don't want any trouble with those questions that contain gross answers or even are inappropriate.

What kind of truck are we talking here? A Splash or a tractor with 53' trailer attached?

Are they going downhill or uphill? And is there a rope system involved or am I just leg-driving the thing forward? And what kind of surface is it on?

If it's a Ford light truck with an empty bed and it's a flat to slight downhill grade and it's smooth like a runway, one person can get it up to speed and push it along nicely without respect to time. They can get it a mile but it would take a while.

If it's a semi truck in a rock-strewn field going uphill, we're talking a dozen people shoving, straining, and working hard and they won't budge it because the mud is too thick to get any kind of traction. They need either another vehicle of a team of horses to help unbudge the thing. I'd say that'd take people literally picking the thing up and moving, so... a hundred or so? More or less?

Ghostbear1111 : Maybe you're right: I should add more details. Oops.

Okay, the answers: Let's think about a transport truck, as i don't know many kinds of trucks. And it's going just straight forward. Let's say a highway. And the people need to push it with their hands. I've seen somewhere in a science program from the Netherlands that they (We're talking about like... 13 people?) tried to PULL a driving car on it fastest. Well, with the right balance and good power, the car stood still while the people pulled the car with full power. However, i may also be wrong with this, because i can't remember it exactly.

People competing in the Strongman Champions League can pull/push trucks and buses by themselves. If you mean a truck that is accelerating and the humans must push it back, I've seen an Australian football team (Aussie football is like Rugby, so everyone understands) hold their own quite well against a top-notch single-seater racing car. So yeah, either a single (super)man or a full Rugby/American football team.

The above answer only works when the truck is on a straight line. If we go uphill or downhill, then it will vary. Probably three or four Rugby/American football teams could suffice, if the truck isn't very heavy.

Haven't you ever seen Hercule from Dragon Ball Z? He could easily pull any vehicle by himself.
But the interesting strength comparison is that he actually chops through less blocks than the current record, so he's not that unbelievably strong.
So the likelihood all you need is one muscle head driven by some form of incentive to get your truck moving a mile.
