The Play Your Games feature allows anyone with the RGR Plugin installed to play their own game roms on Vizzed. It allows you to load a game from an external URL or directly from your computer and it also allows you to choose an emulator (and in some cases, you'll be able to adjust the settings).

If you played a game that was removed from Vizzed, this page will allow you to continue playing that game. It'll also allow you to load your save file.

I'll explain what to do for each section and I'll also offer additional information for advanced users below. Or you can watch a video demonstration here:

1. Find a Game Rom to Play
The first thing you need to do is find a game rom which you'll load into the RGR Plugin and play. The game rom needs to be in a .zip archive and it should be the only game in the archive. If you load a game with the exact same file name as the one that is or previously was available on Vizzed, the game will load information from the database which will give you the ability to load any previous save files you may have, take screenshots, compete for high score, and compete for speed runs (just be sure to go to the game's page afterward to submit those things to the game's page and if it's a game removed from Vizzed, you'll have to go to the game's page from the Video Game Room.

There are 2 different ways to load your game rom into the RGR Plugin.

Browse Computer for Game Rom
To load a game rom from your computer, it has to be in this directory on your computer:
C:ProgramDataVizzedVizzedRgrPluginDownloads

Once you've placed the file in the directory, press the 'Browse' button, browse to that directory and click the rom that you want to load.

TIP: Any game that you've ever played on Vizzed is most likely already in that directory.

Paste URL to a Game Rom on the Internet
You can paste a link to a game rom file hosted anywhere on the internet with this option. Not all download links are compatible though. If the download link doesn't show a .zip extension, then it most likely will not work.

TIP: Once you've played a game using this method, it'll be available on your computer to play using the other method in the future.

2. Available Systems to Emulate
Select the system that the game rom is for. If the game is for a system not available in the drop down list then leave it blank (some systems are playable through the MESS emulator that aren't in the drop down list).

TIP: All game systems that the RGR Plugin can emulate are available on this page which means you may have access to game systems that you normally wouldn't have access to.

3. Select an Emulator
This is optional and if you don't select an emulator, the site will do its best to pick the best emulator for your game rom. Some systems have more than 1 emulator available and some game roms will work better depending on which emulator is chosen. If you have a save file that you want to load, be sure to pick the same emulator that you used last time you played the game.

Advanced Users (this is optional, most users can skip this section)
For users who want to play around with MESS and figure out which systems it can emulate, here's information on how you can potentially get additional systems to work. You'll most likely need to use this page and this page to figure out how to get certain systems to work, what systems are available inside of MESS and what their playability is like (you can do CTRL+F to search the pages).

System: This allows you to choose a system that you want to use within MESS. MESS uses abbreviated names for its system so you'll have to use the 2nd link I provided above to figure that out. The abbreviation names will be next to $info= (so for example, Super Nintendo is listed as $info=snes which means that snes is the system name in this example).

Device: You have to tell MESS how to load the game into the specified system based on its media type. So for example, a cartridge system would be "cart". In some cases, you have to specify a number with the media type as well. Here are most of the common devices that are required:
Cartridge: cart, cart1, cart2
Floppy Disk: flop, flop1, flop2
Cassette: cass, cass1, cass2
Others: cdrm, quik

That should be everything you need to use this feature. I plan to continue making updates to this feature and plan to expand it by giving it netplay capabilities and a few other things. I'll also eventually make a video tutorial for those who still don't understand how this works.

You can share the URL of your play window with other users if you want them to be able to play the game that you played with the same configuration. When you use the 'Load your Games' feature, after you've filled out all of the fields and pressed load game, the URL of the play window is a sharable URL which means that you can give it to someone else and they'll be able to play exactly what you played using the settings that you set (if you loaded a rom from your computer instead of from an external download link, then the user would also need that rom on their computer in order for the URL you shared with them to work).

There is one thing I think you might want to add:
Typically, Programdata is a hidden folder, so perhaps you should tell people to press windows+R to open a run dialog and type the directory in there.

Lol I was doing it wrong, I was loading the game's Rom from my direct downloads carpet instead of the downloads in ProgramData. Thanks David for this explanation and thanks Vanelan for the tip!

I've followed the instructions and I got the games to boot up, but there's no visuals. All I'm getting is music. How can I fix this?

Davideo7 : Do you think it would be possible to have the option to upload a non copyrighted game to the RGR through here if it's one that vizzed doesn't have? The game of course would have to be approved by an RGR staff to make sure it's not an adult oriented game.

This is just an FYI for getting to your program data file. Type in %programdata% to get there and then there should be your vizzed folder. If you have a zip of a Rom you didn't play on vizzed you can move it into the downloads folder (the one in the vizzed folder).

Dev-Flames : Thanks for bringing that up. I forget you can do that. To do this, just hit windows key+R (or open start) and then type up %programdata% (like Dev-Flames said above) I'm assuming this would work in explorer to which I'm pretty sure is the method Dev-Flames is talking about.

mikester : I'm having the same problem, but I've discovered the Play Your Games link works in Google Chrome. I think its got something to do with the RGR plugin not working right with Firefox. The Play.Rom site works in Firefox and Chrome, but the play window looks messed up in Firefox. The best thing I can say is to start playing the games in Google Chrome until things can get fixed.

This sounds great and all but fear someone will break the site by making a file, renaming it with an emulator file extension (.gba .ds etc) and then trying to load it.
