Hi guys, this is RDay. Let me just start this thread on a positive note, as I barely have anything positive to say. To everyone who read and/or replied to my thread about my life a few weeks ago, thank you. My grades are looking decent, I'm not getting accused of stealing things, and my face isn't swelling up terribly.

For about 4 or 5 days, things were going great for me. Two days ago, however, I was told that my cousin was diagnosed with a brain tumor. They didn't catch it very early, so the doctors think that his time will come to an end within the next 5 months. There's only about a 20% chance that he will make it till 2017, and only a 2% chance of him surviving this whole thing. He's kind of known for being a troublemaker, so the whole family's not very fond of him, but he was like my best friend when we were together.

I know you guys are probably thinking this isn't that serious, cuz it's my cousin, and I was thinking the same, to be honest. I wasn't going to make this thread in the first place, but couldn't keep myself together last night. I was advised by a certain someone in a worse situation than me to let it out, so I did.

I honestly don't know what to do right now. I'm trying to watch like funny videos and post in Crazy House, but I mean, it's not really helping. Thank you for reading, any advice or help would be appreciated.

I'm really sorry about this, dude. I can't imagine how bad it is to lose somebody so close to you like that. :/

I'll be praying for you two. If you ever need somebody to talk to, I'm here. I'm really sorry, dude.

That sucks! Even if you weren't super close with him he is still family.

I had a cousin that got leukemia and she had a similar chance to survive. She had a kind of leukemia that had a 20% chance of full recovery or an 80% chance of death within the year. She didn't make it and that was pretty hard even though I didn't know her too well. It's never easy having someone that you know die in that way. It's not easy and more than likely this is going to be a tough 5 months on everyone involved.

The worst part is going to be seeing him late in treatment and what not. He won't look the same as he used to which will be hard to forget. Just do your best to stay positive but also don't feel like you can't vent or cry or anything. Holding in your feelings until you burst is not the way to deal with this.

Of course it's serious! But please don't distance yourself from your cousin because of this. A reaction many people have is to "protect" themselves from sorrow. But in reality, that sort of behavior only leads to regret. Make sure you don't do anything you regret. Your cousin is counting on you to hang in there for his sake. And if you let him down, both you and him will likely be devastated. Feel sorrow, don't give it up. Many people believe that sorrow cannot be sweet, but that is not true. Feeling sorrow for another's pains actually heals! It is selfish sorrow that is bitter. Thinking about yourself and how you'll lose something will only lead to unhappiness. I know, because I've done that myself, and that's something I'm still working on.

Also, a belief that family is eternal is the main thing that can give comfort in times like these. If you believe that your cousin will live on in the next life and you'll get to see and talk to him again, that will give a ton of comfort when he passes on. Pain may still exist, but it will be so much easier to bear. I've lost a cousin, too. He died when he was only 12 from seizures. I didn't get to know him very well, but he did bring happiness to my life. He shared music with the world that was fun and inspiring to listen to, even though few people knew about it. I am looking forward to meeting him again and getting to know him better.

Please, PLEASE assume the good and doubt the bad. There is so much bad in this world. Don't let it stay! Doubt it, don't give it place in you, and be happy! Love your cousin as you would have him love you if you were in his situation. Don't give up! Things will get hard, things will stay hard, but keep trying. Hope this helps!

Ouch, this sucks. One of the hardest things in life is losing a family member, especially if you were very close to him/her. There's still time for this, so what I suggest is that you enjoy the present, and not worry much about your future. Try to enjoy every single day as much as you can with your cousin, like as if it is the first time you're discovering the world.

If you need anything, I'm here.

RDay13 : I knowz your going through a rough time and I'm probably the last person you want to talk to though just knowz I'm here for you and you don't have to suffer through this alone I'll gladly hear you out over what is happening to your cousin

as I said before cancer doesn't care who it effects and how much pain it causes a family ... I should knowz I lost my favorite aunt to lung cancer and even I had a brush with cancer since it was found in my leg ... ya I gotz surgery to remove it and they caught it before it could spread to some where more dangerous though the thought that I had it at all stillz scares me and the scar on my leg is a constant reminder to me that I might have lost my leg if it had been any worse then what it was

I understand the next few months will be reallyz hard for you because losing a family member is the hardest thing any one can go through but as I said before you don't have to suffer through it alone I'm here to help you always have been since we met and always will be from nowz on

As a Christian lifting you up in prayers. I can relate to you because I had a cousin who died of a very aggressive brain tumor. He lived with it for 6 years but he died at the age of 40. It was sad for all of us. I was sad about it because me and him were close. He actually lived longer then Doctors though.  When they discovered his tumor they said he likely had 2 years at the most. But he lived 4 years longer.

So I offer you prayers and support and if you need to talk I'm only a message away.

I myself had a brain tumor that was not cancerous but the doctor said if he didn't get it I would die. I had surgery to remove mine. But it was miserable and I would not wish that on anybody. I had to rely on my Christian faith a lot to get me through that.

Wow, your cousin has a brain tumor? That's awful. As Geeogree said, although you're not really close with him, he will be family forever, and i hope that 2% will win, if not please the 20% chance of him living until 2017. Although i don't know him personally, i really wish the best for him, and if he won't survive this, he will be in your heart. Right?

I'm very sorry to hear this, I don't know what to say, nor do I have time at the moment, but since this is urgent I'll post a little bit. I hope you and your family can get through this. If possible, try and spend as much time with him as you can. It may not make you feel better, but I'm sure he'll appreciate it greatly. We can talk more over Steam later, if you want. Hope things get better for you.

A very similar situation happened to my grandmother well before it was her time. My main piece of advice would be make the most of the time you still have. Depending on where the tumors located, if it continues to grow or cause issues, it will severely impact their mental state. Near the end, my grandma didn't know who I was anymore. I really hope you guys stay close and still talk a lot. No one who cares about you wants you to be sad, in this life or otherwise, so try to keep your head up as best you can.

I wish you the best, and hopefully this will be a case that proves doctors aren't always right.

Thank you all for your kind words and replies. My cousin's tumor ended up spreading much faster than expected and he passed away earlier today. It's only been 9 days since my post and 11 or 12 days since he was diagnosed. Thanks for all your support and comfort, even though he ended up losing the battle.

I'm sorry to hear that. It can't be easy to have this all happen so quickly. Take time to grieve over this loss. Deaths are hard to deal with no matter the situation.

I hope you are able to deal with this and come back to posting when you are ready. Don't feel like you have to come back but if Vizzed is a good support then come by and we'll do our best to help you out.

I am really sorry man...That is tragic. I'll be praying for you, and his parents. Deaths are...One of the worst things to deal with. If you ever need somebody to talk to, you can always talk to me.

I'm sorry to hear about the lost of your cousin. One of mines has just recently died for complications caused by diabetes. We were pretty close, too. I know I caused a bit of drama yesterday, but If you need anything, I'll still be there for you as a friend, rd. Just wanted you to know that.
