I plan on posting every week a topic explaining some weather conditions such as thunder snow. The threads would contain a detailed explanation as to what it is, what triggers it and what it may be similar to. Below is an explanation as to what cold air funnels are and how they're different from thunderstorm tornadoes.

If you have watched any form of TV weather or have seen a special weather statement on a weather website and have heard/seen the term cold air funnel then you are wondering whether or not it is related to thunderstorm tornadoes. The short answer is yes but no. Here's why. Thunderstorm tornadoes require precipitation to be present to form and are more dangerous than cold air funnels and can rate from EF0-EF5 (Previously F0-F5) while cold air funnels have enough instability to support tornadoes but not the other thunderstorm ingredients such as rain and thunder. These typically are seen on partly sunny to partly cloudy days and do not feature a dark sky like tornadoes from a severe storm do although the funnel clouds may be a darker grey than the rest of the clouds present. These funnels are also known for not being able to be detected on radar like thunderstorm tornadoes can which means meteorologists have to rely on viewer photos and what not sent in to the meteorologists (This is also used when a meteorologist wants to confirm that a Doppler indicated tornado is actually present and not the radar glitching up) Tornado watches and warnings are not issued for these and instead a special weather statement takes the place of those in this instance. An example sws is included below.

Instability in the atmosphere is producing cold air funnels so take caution when out on the road and or at the golf course etc. Expect damage to be mostly confined to trees and expect the cold air funnels to wrap up later today.

A special weather statement for cold air funnels would look similar to the example above. Tornado sirens are also not needed for these and thus you will not hear them during these tornadoes unless the tornado sirens are either being tested or are malfunctioning at the same time the cold air funnels are occurring. The strength of these typically is EF0 but you may get some as high as EF1 maybe an EF2 depending on the instability available. Again, these typically do not pose any threats to humans and are a lot weaker and limited in strength and usually goes for trees. These are also usually in a rope shape which you can also get during tornadoes in severe thunderstorms.

This is something I would defiently want to keep up with, I LOVE weather stuff, everything about random weather stuff, so if you do manage to keep this going I'd love to stop by every now and then.

I now plan on doing this two times a week now. One at the beginning and one at the end. $$$$ : I do watch weather shows from time to time and some of the stuff they explain aboutz the weather on there is awesome they give in depth detail as to how what ever weather they are showing happens and what special conditions are needed for it to occur and on one of the episodes lightning happening in a snow storm was explained and caught on camera as well as volcanic lightning

so I'm looking forward to seeing show of the stuff get typed out so that more people can learn aboutz this coolz yet strange weather that happens around the world since the show itself is on from 2am till 5am and in that time it has aboutz maybe 3 episodes of weather getting explained and I always lovez hearing aboutz it since it makes me look at the sky a bit more and wonder could it happen here?!
