Davideo7 : I understand why they've done this but the Fire Emblem Hacks were the main reason I came here. This was the biggest collection of Fire Emblem roms I'd ever found and the loss hits me deeply. Now I've gotta trawl through this list to find what Nintendo hasn't penalized, Nintendo America however, did not hold rights to remove Fire Emblem without direct permission from Nintendo Japan and by extension, Intelligent. I hope to god they left some of the good RPGs behind, else I'm going to be a very pissed off Nintendo Player.

Back to Serene for me, I guess ;-;

You know, the funny thing is, out of the whole list the first game I noticed was a hack I wanted removed (and it was a hack by me)

Nintendo just saved my problem at solvong a bug. Either way it's a shame that Nintendo did this to the site :l Hope you can get them baxk somehow without ninten****ers~

I understand the regular games, but why the rom hacks? The rom hacks were made by other people.

LinkGanonslayer : Far as we know they're gone forever. However, for any games you've already previously played, you can still play them through the RGR. I'm currently doing this for Paper Mario.

KingBudderYoshi : In most cases, the hacks used graphics from the original Nintendo properties, so they can claim those as well.

glaceonlover : There are tons of other games that are still there. We'd hate to see you go and never have tried some of the non-Nintendo titles.

ProtectiveDragon : Like I said to glaceon, stick around and try some of the other games. There are lots of great games still available.

Man, that is just crazy. I can see why Nintendo would want to protect their work but honestly this hurt their reputation to a degree. First off, no one is going to want to pay upwards of $50 dollars for a copy of Super Mario Brothers 2 just to enjoy a classic game from eBay, Amazon, you name it. And second, a majority of these games will never make their way to the Virtual Console and if somebody does decide to buy one of those retro games online, guess who's going to profit from the sale?, certainly not Nintendo, not from an old outdated Nintendo game.

I'm seriously disappointed in Nintendo for this. Not so much for the games that are -actually their property- but more so for the take downs of rom hacks and homebrews that use their games as a base. Isn't this pretty much similar to the whole Where'sTheFairUse fiasco that Youtube's going through? Companies getting outraged for seeing traces of their property on something and then having it taken down, even though the video, or in this case, game, is well within the bounds of the law.

Although it's to a lesser degree, I -am- pissed, nevertheless, about Nintendo additionally taking down their own games, even though those very games don't really sell as much as they used to, and EVEN THEN, Nintendo doesn't get paid directly, if at all. Plus, taking down those games from a site as popular as this would serve as an additional detriment, as it gets gamers angry or irritated towards Nintendo, as well as give out the possibility of causing said gamers to buy their products less and less, which is definitely not what Nintendo wants.

You'd be surprised how far one's respect can go and how much of it can be diminished by supposed "small acts".

Now, I'm not really one who knows very much about business, but I do know my own opinions. And if I have an opinion, it's guaranteed that at least one or two others will have a similar opinion. And judging from the earlier posts, I'd say there's more than two. Nintendo needs to learn to take more careful action and to tread lightly in regards to their fans and followers.

Davideo7 :

Such an unfortunate turn of events. Nintendo is pretty much shooting themselves in the foot with fans as they are taking down games that aren't on the Virtual Console as well as ROM hacks that only use their games a base.
