Hey! I'm wondering what your favorite core (abs) exercises are? Whether it be hitting the upper abs, lower abs, hips, etc. I'm always on the hunt for new exercises (I follow a few personal trainers on facebook for motivation and also inspiration).

For me, my favorites have to be Heels 2 Heaven (keep legs straight, then push up with your hips towards the sky, lower back down. repeat.) and Russian twists, just to name a couple.  I want to hear yours!

I'm not a big fan of exercise but I did watch this video not long ago and I really want to take on such a challenge.

Sorry if this was a little off-topic.

Hmm...never heard of that one (heels 2 heaven). It sounds interesting though.

My favorite is hard to pick, as it depends on whether you mean most enjoyed, or most effective. The more effective, the less I enjoy it. Lol

Most effective: Judging purely by how I feel afterward, Bicycle Crunch. That will kill you. Lol But it hits the abs hard when done right. Seen some good results from it too.

Most enjoyed: Half Curl because it's the easiest in my routine. xD

Another good one is vertical leg crunch. Not fun, but effective.

Eirinn : "the more effective, the less I enjoy it" - SO MUCH YES

Heels to heaven is awesome - it's tough, but it really works the abs. The bicycle crunch is definitely killer. I need to get back on that wagon.

My favorites would be the crunch machine, when you lay on it and then do crunches while pulling a bit of weight to add resistance and the leg raise. You are standing on two pegs, butt on the pad and you slowly lift your legs up and down. I like to do it on the 7th mark and then every 10,I raise it a mark so it is longer. The longer the raise, the more you feel it.

Oldschool777 : I've never heard of the crunch machine, but I use this elevated bench (I guess you'd call it) and hold a weight while doing sit-ups... so it's kind of similar, lol.

My favorite is probably the Dragon Flag. It's uh...hard to explain, so it'll be easier for you to search it up. It really works your core and well, it's quite difficult.
Another one I like is the V-Sit. Hands on the floor, Legs straight and raised to your chest so the only thing that supports you is your arms and cores. This is probably too hard for beginners, so starting off with the L-Sit is also good.
Planks are also good, no matter what.

From what I know, Crunches/Sit ups aren't that great. Besides only targeting a small place of your abs, it can also hurt your back a lot and well, there's a lot better core exercises out there.

maguc : I'll have to google that one lol. I like the v-sits as well - they are tough, but they work.

I've been meaning to nix the situps out of my routine - they used to work more, and I started using a weight to help increase the burn but I'm not feeling the results like I did before.

They would be somewhat similar but instead of your feet higher than your head, they are about the same, but the bench slopes downward. Your feet is on pegs while you pull a weight while you sit up. I am not sure of the technical name of it,I will have to look.

I don't know if you know this one, but toe-touches are an easy one that's pretty good. You simply lay down and put your feet up in the air, perpendicular to the ground, and reach for your toes and come back down. You can also try side planks and star planks (you need to look those up, sorry, I can't explain those to you in words.)

Not counting the tried and true regular sit up (with proper form of course), would be one where you put your butt on the end of the bed with your legs hanging over the edge, and keep your feet together and basically do leg lifts while keeping them extended (or laying flat and raising them 6 inches above the ground and holding them there for a set period of time, rest and repeat). The other would be doing bicycle kicks with your back on the ground and legs up off the ground while touching your elbows to each knee as it extends toward you. I don't know the proper names for them, but I think I explained it well enough.

I'm a big fan of the plyometrics to keep things in shape.  I like the slow burn and mental challenge of planks, side-planks, the 'boat' (which is where you keep your lower back planted on the ground and you raise your arms over your head, pull your shoulders off the ground and do the same with your feet and hold it), and plank-style sit-ups.

The obliques usually get ignored so I go plank-style sit-ups.  Start in a side-plank, either on your elbow or hand, your call, and lower your hip to the ground.  When you raise it explosively back up to the plank, that's one rep.  Do that 40 times a side and you'll have some nice core working for you.  You get both aesthetics and functional core strength.

My favorite would have to be the standard sit-up, since it's the only exercise I don't suck at since I'm not a exercise person.

I just do planks or stomach compressions...or whatever they're called. The latter is literally just sucking in your stomach, but do it for a few minutes straight and it sucks. It hits a muscle underneath your abdomen that's alot bigger than your abs. Then the planks, obviously, hit my abs. Sometimes I'll throw in some kettle bell sit-ups, but that's pretty much all the ab stuff I do. I don't really hit my core too hard, I focus on basically everything else, which is probably a bad idea. xD

Well because I can't do much push ups and stuff. I would tend to run up and down the stairs around enough times that I get tired. Or go out for a walk sometimes I climb small hills so it really helps with my legs. I can't do much big exercises or go to the gym so I go with my own types of ones. And I do actually lose weight by doing that or maybe even doing the chores can help a bit. I just don't want to be able to do something so extreme that it will put me out for a long time. Because trust me it will. @.@

Eniitan : If you work out from home, I strongly suggest looking up Emily Skye on youtube. She posts a lot of 'at home' work outs, and just a lot of workouts in general which can be altered to be done at home.

Also, squats. They do wonders for the booty, and legs. Start off with 5 and gradually increase.
