Hello and welcome to this month's edition of the VSM. Apologies for the unexpected break, but so long as nothing renders me unable to do so again, we will be resuming our usual monthly articles.

A lot happened this month in the world of PlayStation gaming, and we will cover a few of those things, but be assured there was much more than what is covered here. I'll simply hit the highlights (as I see them) for brevity's sake.

Hardware Sales*

After breaking from reporting sales trends of games and systems for a few editions of the VSM, that portion of the article has returned. However since there was no VSM for a few months, we will be skipping the sales reports from July through the first half of November. They were all roughly the same as usual so not much was missed. Finally, please note that these numbers are not official, but the sources they are derived from have been fairly consistent with what each company has revealed to us. Take these numbers as estimates.

Anyway, on to our sales figures!

November 22nd - 28th
PS4 - 711,257 (+30%)

Xbox One - 292,682 (-9%)

Wii U - 113,526 (+37%)

PS3 - 19,359 (+20%)

Xbox 360 - 26,993(+45%)

Wii - 1,319 (+64%)

PS Vita - 53,166 (+10%)

In current gen sales it's apparently the week of the PS4 and Wii U as they jump by thirty and thirty seven percent respectively, landing PS4 over 400,000 ahead of and Wii U roughly 179,000 behind the Xbox One which lost nine percent on the week but still put up decent numbers.

Last gen sales sees PS3 and Xbox 360 taking a bit of a leap as well, with the Xbox 360 selling roughly 7,000 more units than the PS3. Meanwhile the Wii jumps an impressive sixty four percent to just over 1,300.

Finally we wrap the week up with a ten percent increase in sales for the PS Vita which puts up over 53,000 sales.

November 29th - December 5th
PS4 - 797,972 (-49%)

Xbox One - 457,372 (-62%)

Wii U - 169,724 (-37%)

PS3 - 24,826 (-19%)

Xbox 360 - 35,599 (-50%)

Wii - 1,637 (-25%)

PS Vita - 77,747 (+6%)

This week my sources goofed somehow and put almost every system at a considerable drop in sales by percentages despite most of them actually selling more, so just overlook the percentages.

PS4 sells 340,600 more units than the Xbox One which outsells the Wii U by roughly 288,000.

Xbox 360 outsells PS3 by roughly 11,000 and the Wii jumps up a little more, putting out over 1,600 units.

And the PS Vita jumps up to 77,747 units sold on the week. Not really a bad week for any of the systems, but hey, it was the holiday season.

December 6th - 12th
PS4 - 816,897 (+2%)

Xbox One - 460,589 (+1%)

Wii U - 239,125 (+41%)

PS3 - 30,138 (+21%)

Xbox 360 - 42,512 (+19%)

Wii - 1,765 (+8%)

PS Vita - 121,749 (+57%)

The PS4 moves only one percent more than last week, passing the Xbox One by roughly 350,000, while the Xbox One climbs by just two percent outselling the Wii U by 220,000. Speaking of Wii U, it's sales spurt continues as it jumps by forty two percent, or forty two times more than PS4, despite putting up smaller totals.

The PS3 jumps twenty one percent but is edged out by Xbox 360 another week, this time by over 12,000. Meanwhile the Wii climbs another seven percent, selling over 1,700.

And the PS Vita moves over 121,000 with a jump of fifty seven percent. Looks like "Santa" took the Japanese child officer's advice and brought people a Vita. Anyone get the reference to the commercial? No? Okay.

December 13th - 19th
PS4 - 1,001,278 (+23%)

Xbox One - 554,666 (+20%)

Wii U - 310,942 (+30%)

PS3 - 33,065 (+10%)

Xbox 360 - 45,724 (+8%)

Wii - 1,998 (+13%)

PS Vita - 159,694 (+31%)

Holy console sales, Batman! PS4 sells over a million consoles this week, jumping twenty three percent in the process. It's saying good things when your sales go up by less than a quarter and you still pass a million.
Meanwhile Xbox One is no sloucher, moving over half a million with a jump of twenty percent, and Wii U moves over 310,000 with a jump of thirty percent. Happy new gen holidays to a lot of someones.

And then the PS3 climbs to over 33,000 with an increase of ten percent, while Xbox 360 passes it with an eight percent increase and over 45,000 sales. And then there's the Wii with an increase of thirteen percent and nearly 2,000 sales.

And we finish up this portion of the holiday sales coverage with the PS Vita moving a jolly 159,000+ units and an increase of thirty one percent.

*Totals do not include used system sales

Software Sales*

And then there were games.

November 22nd - 28th
PS4 - 6,326,819 (+3%)

Xbox One - 3,273,164 (-14%)

Wii U - 1,005,829 (+22%)

PS3 - 1,480,075 (+6%)

Xbox 360 - 3,143,372 (+126%)

Wii - 610,202 (+31%)

PS Vita - 450,918 (+45%)

Which is more impressive: that the PS4 sold over six million games in one week? Or that it was only three percent more than it sold the week before?
Well the Xbox One shows off over three million in game sales this week as well, with a fourteen percent drop.
And the Wii U sees a twenty two percent increase with over a million games.

Meanwhile in last gen, PS3 moves just under one and a half million games while the Xbox 360 moves over three million and the Wii puts out 610,000.

And the week is closed with the PS Vita which sold just under 411,000 games.

November 29th - December 5th
PS4 - 7,503,798 (-10%)

Xbox One - 4,220,700 (-18%)

Wii U - 2,058,158 (-13%)

PS3 - 3,392,085 (+2%)

Xbox 360 - 2,989,771 (-5%)

Wii - 1,491,468 (+11%)

PS Vita - 788,886 (-3%)

And again the percentages are out of whack this week (let's hope the other weeks weren't and I just failed to notice). Apparently nothing was safe from glitches this particular week.

PS4 bumps it up to seven and a half million while Xbox One hits over four million and Wii U doubles sales and hits over two million. A good week for the system.

Then there was last gen where we saw the PS3 selling over three million, the Xbox 360 clocking in with just under three million, and the Wii hitting just below one and a half million.

And the PS Vita just under 789,000 games this week. Nearly double last week's sales.

December 6th - 12th
PS4 - 7,260,456 (-3%)

Xbox One - 4,048,465 (-4%)

Wii U - 1,709,201 (-17%)

PS3 - 3,776,584 (+11%)

Xbox 360 - 3,476,118 (+16%)

Wii - 1,887,810 (+27%)

PS Vita - 1,009,029 (+28%)

Assuming the percentages are right again, the PS4 drops slightly this week, but still maintains over seven million, while the Xbox One drops four percent but still moves over four million, and Wii U drops seventeen percent to just under two million.

And PS3 leads the way in last gen games with an eleven percent increase to over 3.7 million while Xbox 360 climbs sixteen percent to 3.4 million, and Wii jumps twenty seven percent to 1.8 million.

Finishing up the week we find the PS Vita with over a million games sold after it's twenty eight percent increase.

December 13th - 19th
PS4 - 8,816,647 (+21%)

Xbox One - 4,924,305 (+22%)

Wii U - 2,122,509 (+24%)

PS3 - 5,090,230 (+35%)

Xbox 360 - 4,570,676 (+31%)

Wii - 2,558,951 (+36%)

PS Vita - 1,350,910(+34%)

And to finish up this month we find the PS4 with a twenty one percent jump to just under a whopping nine million games sold, and the Xbox One jumping one more percent than PS4 with just under five million games sold. Then the Wii U brings in the close with a twenty four percent increase and over two million games.

Last gen sales show the PS3 closing up the week in lead with over five million games after a thirty five percent increase, while the 360 climbs by thirty one percent and four and a half million. And the Wii closes out with a thirty six percent jump and two and a half million.

And the PS Vita finishes things up for us with a thirty four percent jump and 1.3 million games sold.

*Totals do not include used game sales

Upcoming PS3 Games

So with a late article, most of these have already released. My apologies.
However on a high note, I have found an additional source for upcoming games that fills some holes left by the source I've been using, as well as including info about what formats the games are available in (Retail and/or Digital via PSN) as well as which ones are Cross-buy. However this information is not available for all of the games listed.

Finally, there will be no screenshots or links this time to ensure that this article isn't posted any later than it has to be. However be assured that they will return next month.

And now I leave the readers with a question: my new source lists North America and Europe releases separately. Should these distinctions be made in the VSM articles from now on? Let me know, and we'll go with whatever you choose.

Vote To Play returns
This month we saw the return of Vote To Play, a service that allows all PS4 owners with PS+ to vote on one of the games in the upcoming IGC.
Below you will find screenshots and information for each game (just click on the game's name) as well as a gameplay video. Please be aware that I did not watch these videos in their entirety, so I cannot guarantee that they do not contain any inappropriate content such as swearing or extreme blood, gore, or violence.

And your choices are:

Assault Android Cactus
Gameplay video

Action Henk
Gameplay video

Broforce
Unfortunately I was unable to turn up an information link for Broforce.
Gameplay video

Choose as you see fit. I would never tell you that you should choose Assault Android Cactus, or that Broforce looks entirely too similar to that awful game Super Time Force Ultra, or that Action Henk is decent if you want a runner that isn't as awesome as AAC. Even if those things are true. Nope, not going to say it.

Free Online Multiplayer this weekend

It was a slightly unreasonable complaint from users that online multiplayer was a paid service this generation, but I won't go there lest we stir up up a big stink. The point is that for this weekend only, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to play with their friends online even if they don't have a PS+ subscription. Yeah, we can all see what the idea here is: get them to taste online multiplayer with the new generation of hardware and games, and then they'll want it enough that they'll pay for it. But really, you can't blame them for running good business. And besides, non-PS+ members still get a nice little perk even if only for a couple of days, and it's free. So why not have fun with it?

PS4 Update Beta Testing sign ups are open
Just like with the last update, Sony is looking for beta testers for the upcoming PS4 update. And while not all applicants will be accepted, you can sign up at the link below to join in. And you can test worry free, as the update is not permanent, so if it ends up being buggy you can revert back to the version you had before.
Click here to go to the sign up page
Also note that link was found from the US PlayStation blog. It may not work for those who do not live in the US.
Below is the link (again, to the US blog) in case the sign up sheet link did not work for you.

That's All She He Wrote

That does it for this month's VSM. Come back next month when we'll:

-Be on time
-Talk about sales and new releases
-Wear our sunglasses at night (no, I'm not actually old enough to remember that song. Stupid oldies infomercials when I was a kid...)

Thanks for reading and be sure to tell me what you thought about the US/EU release idea. If it would be helpful I can certainly try my best.
Until next time, keep on gaming, and keep it Sony.

Please be aware that I did not watch these videos in their entirety, so I cannot guarantee that they do not contain any inappropriate content such as swearing or extreme blood, gore, or violence.

And your choices are:

Assault Android Cactus

Action Henk

I'm glad you accidentally summoned Arslan, I did the same thing on my staff role thread, so it puts us in the same level

Now that I'm the Sony Manager, I'll be able to post more detailed replies, since I've gone through a bit of information about the games in order to add them (though sometimes I wished I didn't saw some things).

First off, your question: while I, as European, would be glad to know when the games are released around here, I think we must go with the wishes of the majority, so the only European releases listed should be the games exclusive to our region and all others should have their American release listed.

I would love to see which screenshots you got from Megadimension Neptunia VII. That game is like an ecchi paradise, I myself had a lot of trouble finding screenshots suitable for a family friendly site like Vizzed. Something to be expected from Japan, but I expected a heavy censorship in 'Murica.

I don't understand the release of each Assassin's Creed Chronicles game. They release a full collection of the games and one of the stories, but leave the two remaining for later dates? It would make sense if the full game was to be released after all three individual games had been released before. And this comes after reading some articles that say we probably won't have an Assassin's Creed game in 2017. Well, we can always resort to the DVD release of the movie

While I must admit I'm a big fan of Agatha Christie and the adventures of the magnificent Hercule Poirot, I'm not that fond of a videogame that lets me impersonate such a legend. Of course, it's impossible for the game to be even half as good as the books are, but I think there's something else to it.

I'm considering buying the new Street Fighter, it seems bonkers. On the other hand, I'm seeing so many trailers of The King of Fighters XV that I'm starting to feel torn on which one to choose. I will probably end up resorting to the simplest choice: get both

On a personal level, that's all I had to add. I'm glad the VSM returned, even though I now pay more attention to new releases myself it's always nice to be able to discuss them here. Looking forward to see what March has got for us Sony players!

Accidentally summoned... *facepalm* Well then. That happened. xD

Heh, yeah I remember one game I had that problem with (wishing I hadn't seen the screenshots) when I was Sony Manager. I told a friend that I felt like a pedophile seeing those images. For some reason every character in the screenshots looked like ten year old girls that were almost naked their clothing was so scarce. Easily the worst experience I had with that role...thankfully. Some of those Japanese games are weird man. At least to a Westerner.

I could do that. I was also thinking maybe I could list the games and if the release dates were different in each region maybe I could write it like this:
March 23rd:
Awesome Game (March 18th EU)
That way it would look neater than listing the game twice, be easier than making an NA and EU section, and keep everyone informed. Thoughts?

I actually did see some decent screenshots for Megadimension Neptunia VII pop up in articles over the month, but even they were obviously trying to...shall we say...get male attention? But they were clean at least. I don't envy you looking for clean screenshots of games like that one though. lol

Actually I didn't know the other two hadn't released yet. That really is an odd business strategy. Also Ubisoft has confirmed that there will not be an Assassin's Creed this year. Someone said they're revamping it and suggested it might be made in a fashion similar to The Witcher III. The last two things are speculation I think, but the no AC this year is official.

I actually love games like the Agathie Christie game usually. I wish we had more straight up detective games on console actually. Sherlock Holmes has another game in the works speaking of which. I still haven't gotten ahold of Crimes and Punishments yet, but I definitely plan on it.

Street Fighter V got my attention when they said it was more approachable for new players than previous installments. I might check it out, but I don't know. I usually don't like fighters, but then the Capcom VS. Marvel game on PSX was amazing. Also loved Fighter's Destiny and it's sequel on N64. If they made a new one I'd probably be so hyped that I'd preorder it. xD

March and April I think will be great months for PlayStation gamers, and I don't expect the rest of 2016 to be too shabby either. Looking forward to it!

I'm in for listing the separate release date the way you suggested. It's always easier to look through a single list than looking through two.

I love Fighting games, I cannot sleep everytime I think about the upcoming Tekken 7 and how the wait is killing me. And now that you mention it, I would like more crossovers like the Capcom vs Marvel or Capcom vs SNK. This last one may be real after they release King of Fighters XV. Or is it too nice to be real?

Hey man, great article. I need to go back and read more of these.

Quick question, why aren't 3DS sales included on this list?

Jordanv78 : Thanks, man. As for 3DS, I don't include it because I only wanted to track console (non-handheld) sales, however I did decide to include the Vita since it's a PlayStation system. I guess I could start including 3DS as well if you'd like, I mean it wouldn't be much more work really. Don't expect to see any competition between PS Vita and 3DS though, as the 3DS is pretty much outselling everything except PS4. Or it was the last time I checked anyway.

As for older articles, the newest one before this was in November I think (maybe October) so there was a lot of uncovered ground. I'll be getting back to monthly releases now that things are finally getting back to normal though.

Eirinn : I think if you are going through all the work to list the sales of what you already have, that it would be cool to see how 3DS matches up, although I do realize that these are mostly Playstation/Console news articles. So I understand if you don't want to include it.

Keep up the great work! I look forward to hopefully reading more of them in the future.
