One time I came up with a poem and wrote it for my girlfriend as a Valentine. You might be thinking "ewww, I don't really want to hear someone else love poem. It might be awkward". But it won't be awkward, I promise.

The poem I came up with is called "Why shouldn't I"?  Every stanza  tells a little story about something someone did. Mainly something romantic or inspirational. And then the stanza always ends with "He/she said, "I'll give it a try. Why shouldn't I?". The poem then ended with a stanza that said how much I loved her and ended like "I don't know if this will work out, though I am clumsy and shy. But I'll give it a try why shouldn't I?"

I like this poem I wrote, because you can replace the verses with anything and still end it with a heartfelt, "I'll give it a try. Why shouldn't I?"

In this thread I will write the first stanza establishing the formula for each verse. And then you can add to it by writing a unique verse, that you find inspirational. If you're looking for a last minute Valentine idea, or want to impress a significant other and decide to write your own version of this poem for him/her go right ahead.

In this thread a verse doesn't necessarily have to be about love. It can be a small story about a man who wants to climb a mountain and says "I will give it a try. Why shouldn't I?" Be creative. Come up with a new variation of the verse. Just keep it close to home. Okay. Let me start you off. But first something I just thought of. You stanza does not have to be related to anyone else stanza in any way. Just do write what you want to.

There once was a man who lived in Japan
He chased his only love. From North to South he ran
Eventually she stopped to ask "Tell me why you're following me. If you can."
He said, "My love for you is stronger than the concrete below my feet on which I ran.
For you, I would sail across the ocean. Around the world I'd fly.
For you I'd give it a try. Why shouldn't I?

There was once a girl who was 11,
She never crushed on anyone other than a boy named Evan,
But that's when it all changed. 
She fell crazily in love, becoming deranged.
All she thought about was him,
She filled her memory stick with pictures of him up to its brim,
However, for her love, there was a catch,
Who knew that to her love, there were strings attached?
For the one she loved,
There was a fact about him that in the back of her mind she had shoved,
For the fact she couldn't get the gist,
The man named Iron Fist,
He wasn't real!
When her mother asked her, "Why do you fall in pointless crushes? When you never see him again, you'll always cry!"
To which she replied, tears in her eyes,
"I'll never forget him. Why should I?"

A Super Mario inspired poem

With a red shirt and brown 'stache there was this plumber,
A mushroom eating, goomba, defeating spry newcomer,
His heart beat fast for a blonde sweet royal,
He'd cross mazes of pipes for her, man was loyal,
to overcome the red haired King,
to show Bowser she's no plaything, 
But how many castles would he have to private eye,
I'll give it a try. Why shouldn't I?
