Ok so I bought some stuff on Ebay last week & I still haven't been charged for it. I paid via PayPal.

On my PayPal, I have my TD Bank Checking Account and debit card.

I'm not going to do this, but I am just wondering about what would happen if I did; what would happen if I went on a shopping spree with my checking account and then after that, I don't have enough money for PayPal to take out of my account when it tries to?

AND I already have the stuff I bought on Ebay!

So, what would be the consequence here?

To be honest, this seems like a bad business practice to me and I'm going to pay straight out by card from now on, rather than my checking account, so I'd be charged right away & really know how much money I have in my account.

1 word - THEFT.

If you get a good without paying for it (especially if you do it intentionally) that is theft.

You might get a few things for free but your account will likely get banned from ebay and quite possibly you could get in even more trouble since you got something without paying for it.

I'd do whatever you can to make sure the payment goes through properly.

geeogree : Yeah, that's what I thought too. Now I'm trying to make sure I have at least $250 in my account so the charge can go through.

What will happen is an EFT Failed Payment charge, probably between 20-50 bucks added on to the cost, and then they try to redraft the account.  Then, if no money is still there, they follow up with fines and you'll be banned from the website, and so on from there.

You'll also probably have collections come after you to make you pay via check or credit card/debit card via phone or the internet.  Now your credit score takes a hit and suddenly loans and things like mortgages and car payments and insurance get more expensive.

Never do anything to mess with your credit score.  That makes life way tougher.

Like Ghostbear said, you would be charged an extra fee for insufficient funds and it can lead to them closing the account and having a creditor come after you or your wages being garnished. You do not need or want that in your life. Just know what is in your account at all times and you can avoid it.

I don't really have much to add, but it sounds like the seller hasn't accepted the money yet and it's pending for them to confirm the transfer... Seems a bit odd for them to do that honestly as most sellers tend to make sure the money transfer is accepted before they even post it... so unless they're being a bad seller and not accepting payment because they wanted a higher price for the item their selling it's odd.

but yeah.. buying stuff without having the money in your account often leads to having to pay more money on top of that... so it's kinda pointless and fruitless.. and don't even get me started on credit scores lol

Honestly, nothing good comes from trying to charge stuff to paypal without enough money to cover it, but Paypal generally doesn't give out credit to people unless you apply and are approved for it, so I wouldn't worry about it. I know they now have a policy where if you are a longstanding member, they don't charge you for the items until they arrive to your house.

Since it seems that this question has been answered, I'll go ahead and close it.
