This is the thread to talk about everything and anything about the 2015-2016 NCAA basketball season. It's a bit late, very late actually, but we're about to reach the high point of the season. If you are a fan of the sport, jump in and share some of your stories.

When the season started, I had such high hopes for St. John's, they were one of the best teams in east coast but crashed hard. From 2011 until 2015 they has one of the best teams and coaches in their history. Multiple 20 win seasons, NCAA tournament places, numerous awards and 3 of the 20 best players in the country. All 3 left last year. 2 of them, Harrison and Pointer graduated and won multiple awards with Harrison playing internationally and Pointer drafted by the Cavs. The 3rd, Obekpa was one of the 3 best defenders in the country before transferring. To make up for all their losses, they signed Hall of Famer Chris Mullen to coach, but nothing but bad luck came about.

When the season started, they were 7-3 which is great, but they went on to lose their next 14 games, with many if those losses being by more than 20 points, including today's game which was by about 33. They are last place in the Big East and are 0-11 against teams in the conference. The first place team, Villanova, will probably win everything again.

I'm feeling really good about the Dayton Flyers right now. They're currently the 24th ranked team in the country, they're on a 6 game winning streak, and they're playing against a weak George Mason team, which should put them at 19-3 once the game's over. If they can keep this up, they can definitely catch up to VCU and take the Atlantic 10 regular season title, and possibly go on a run in the NCAA Tournament like they did 2 years ago. I'm more confident about this team than I was last year, when their tallest player was only 6'6.

EDIT: Dayton did manage to beat George Mason 98-64, giving them a 7 game winning streak.

I'm sure if I do a separate thread for the tournament, someone is going to get angry, someone else will summon a mod, someone will ask for the thread to be moved, etc,

So, here goes:

Who are your top 4 teams right now?  Say you got to draft four teams most likely to win the National Championship, who do you pick?

Heck, we could turn this into a game of some sort.  Pick any four teams and get a pt for winning the first round, two points for second round, four for third, and so on.

Anyone in?

I would take Maryland, Virginia, Oklahoma, and UNC.

Ghostbear1111 : Unlike in years past, there isn't a true favorite to win it all. I'm not even going to try to pick a final four until the tournament bracket is set. The 1's are going to be more like 2's this year. Also Maryland? They just got their butts kicked by Wisconsin at home! Kansas is going to make it farther in the tournament than Oklahoma.

Anyways, the Dayton Flyers have moved up to the number 15 in the AP poll and 13th in the coaches poll, their highest rankings since December of 1967. (that was also the year they made it to the NCAA championship game) If they can beat St. Joesph's today, I think the Flyers will win the rest of their regular season games. I'm looking forward to seeing how far they'll go in this year's tournament.

gamerforlifeforever2 : Let me understand this.  You're saying Bill Self is better than the Sooner's "Buddy Ball" they have going on down there?

And the Big Ten is easily the best basketball conference top to bottom.  They outclass the Big XII, they beat the ACC any day, their track record destroys the Big East and the Pac 12 is a distance third or fourth.

Dayton?  Maybe.  We'll see.

OU?  Boomer Sooner.  I didn't even go there.  They have great basketball.

And as a side note, the game isn't to pick the correct final four right now.  It's just to say who you're top four teams are.  If you were the committee, who are your four 1st seeds?

Ghostbear1111 : They did take down the Sooner's twice so yeah.

Now that I understand what you were saying earlier, my top 4 teams right now would be Kansas, Villanova, Virginia, and North Carolina.

I had Iowa as a 1, but with that loss they're about to get against Penn State, I now say Villanova is now in my top 4 instead.

St John's just keeps doing worse and worse each day, they have now lost 16 games in a row and are playing DePaul today to see if they can make it 17. They are already 0-13 in the conference which is just insane.

Well, after their 16th straight loss, St. John's was able to get a win, an 80-65 win against DePaul but then in their next game against Seton Hall thye lost by ONE POINT 62-61 at Madison Square Garden.

With that win, they are now 1-14 in their conference, though DePaul isn't any better as they are 2-12 in the conference. 7 of the 10 teams in the conference have an overall winning record of at least .630 while St. John's is just .286

There are only 45 other teams in all of major NCAA leagues that have a worse record, out of 32 conferences and hundreds of teams.

For awhile there yesterday, it looked like Dayton was going to reach a new low this season, since they were trailing most of the game against St. Louis (10-17). In the first half, the Flyers had their 2nd lowest scoring half in Flyers history with just 14 points. Thankfully, they managed to send the game into overtime and win 52-49, thanks to Scoochie Smith and Kyle Davis, who combined for nearly half of the Flyers total points. I don't get what's wrong with the Flyers as a whole right now. They lost both of their games last week, and nearly lost to a team way below .500. It's weird how they've gone from being the number 15 team in the country to this...

This is getting ridiculous, Dayton lost again to a team that's barely above .500 this season (Rhode Island). I don't get why this is happening right now, but if they keep this up, they might not even make the tournament, even though ESPN has them as a lock. They need to get their act together by tournament time, or they'll be a first round knockout.

Well, in their final home game of the season, the Dayton Flyers managed to beat the VCU Rams in overtime 68-67. With that win, they earned a share of the Atlantic 10 title with VCU and St. Bonaventure. Next for Dayton is the Atlantic 10 tournament, where they'll be the number 1 seed.

On another note, congrats to the Yale Bulldogs for winning the Ivy League, and earning their first NCAA tournament bid in 54 years!

So how's everyone's brackets looking so far? What are some of your biggest upsets making into the Sweet 16?

I got Green Bay, Michigan and Iona as my double-digit seeds surprising people and making it into the round of 16.

The highest seed I could see sneaking into the Elite 8 as 8th seeded St. Joes. Just couldn't find any other upsets there as there are several really great 1-4 seeded teams this year and they actually did a good job of spreading out the talent around the regions this year I Feel.

I got Kansas, Oklahoma, Xavier and Mich State in the Final 4, with Kansas and Mich State playing for the national Championship and Sparty cutting down the nets in Houston!

What do you all have?

*edit -

I had some last min changes to my bracket. Initially I had Cal going pretty deep. but with news of Tyrone Wallace breaking his hand in practice, I changed that around and had Hawaii upset them. Now I have S Dakota state sneaking into the round of 16 as well.

Well, the only team I got right making it to the final four was North Carolina. I would've never guessed the other 3 teams would've made it to this point, especially not Syracuse, who I thought didn't even deserve to be in the tournament to begin with. Well, that's March Madness for you, anything can happen.

My bracket is totally broken, I had Kansas going all the way.

Saracuse...wow. That was one team I didn't see making it even to the elite 8, and now they're in the final four.

I can say that I have nova going all the way and winning out. North Carolina is a touch competitor, but after nova beat Kansas, I was sold on their team.

Oh my lord what a game. It came down to the wire at the very end.
I can't even believe what a god game that was, all of the 3s that were sunk...
The last minute oh my god
Sunk it
Go nova

That was one of the best Championship games I've ever seen. A buzzer beater to win it for Villanova. Congratz to the Wildcats for winning the NCAA tournament.

I didn't get to the see game tonight but I saw the Villanova game on Saturday and would have been cheering for them in the final game.

The buzzer beater to win was awesome. The celebration after that was crazy. I really wish I could have watched that game live though.

LOL, from the very beginning, I knew Villinova was either going to win it all or come very close to it, like they have been doing a lot recently. After winning the Big East season championship all 3 times that it existed, it was only a mater of time, they were on a roll these past few years.
