Title more or less sums it up.

In my experience only counting games I actually physically bought, it would have to be Naruto Uzumaki: Chronicles, I bought the game for 20 swedish crowns equivalent to just over 2 USD, not a used copy but brand new. Due to the price I had literally no expectations on this game, I didn't plan on buying it, I just bought it because it was so cheap and figured I'd give it a try but it still disappointed me.

It was one of the most repetitive games I've ever played period. No depth, just button mashing, no enemy variety whatsoever you just fight the same things over with no real strategy involved. The graphics for a PS2 title are awful, the exact same environment is copy and pasted into each battle encounter when you actually get to see any because the game used a map to navigate around the world because I guess making an over world was too much work. The game barely has a story, you just do random things that make no sense such as a time trial mode that turns into more of a fetch quest. Popular characters from the show pop in randomly and then more or less disappear again, seemingly being it because the developers felt they had to be. The game frustrated me too such an end that I threw it away, legit actually threw it in the trash can, if it wasn't for the fact that it only cost 2 dollars I'd probably have been more angry.

On the other hand if we're talking the worst game I've ever played period it has to be Bubsy 3D. It's somewhat infamous though maybe not on the level of Superman 64 or ET. It's a 3D platformer for the PS1. It barely has any textures, the world mostly just consists of colorless polygons which makes it look like a pre alpha version of the game and far from the finished product. The controls are crap as in you can't just freely walk around, to turn in any direction you have to stop turn in the direction you want to go to and then go forward, who in their right mind thought that was a good control scheme? What frustrates me the most though is that the game has the audacity to actually pose as being good saying it won the "Gold X Award" which after some googling doesn't seem to be an actual award just something the developers made up. Bubsy himself is just a plain annoying character which whoever wrote his dialogue tries way to hard to make him seem funny and cool.

The most disappointing game to me is probably Sonic Boom. Before this game came out I already had weak hopes for a good Sonic game, following the constant screw ups SEGA had made in the past, but as I did enjoy Colors and Generations I had some hope, unfortunately for me that quickly turned into anger because even I did not expect Sega to let something worse than 06 be released to the public. At least that game had some few things that made it interesting, this game has no redeemable features about it. The characters are completely one dimensional and stereotypical character tropes, with one liners that make you cringe, it constantly lags, as in it always lags during gameplay, the game runs at a lower frame rate throughout and during both cutscenes and gameplay they literally just skip frames with characters jumping from one frame to another probably because they weren't given enough time to finish the game. The soundtrack is average at best and doesn't at all match up with what is happening at screen meaning they messed up the one thing the franchise has had a consistently good record of. Then there's awful texture quality that is sometimes at an N64 level, which I didn't even know was possible with a budget this size And of course the gameplay is devoid of any actual depth whatsoever, platforming that is laughably easy, combat that is pure button mashing. Any difficulty you may have beating it is more likely to come from the awful controls, random glitches and the constant lagging during speed sections. What is perhaps most astonishing and further adds insult to injury is that they're making a sequel to this game, that seemingly no one actually wants. This game killed Sonic as a franchise for me, because I now keep wondering what could've come if some more competent game developers who don't have a lot of resources were given the budget these developers had.

But enough ranting on my part, what are some of the worst, most disappointing games (or both) that you've played?

I remember being very hyped for Medabots Infinity, or whatever it was named, for the Gamecube. I saw some episodes and thought it was interesting, but the game was absolutely crappy in every aspect. One of the worst games I've ever played without a doubt.

I was also very disappointed at Digimon Rumble Arena 2. The first one was ages better in comparison, first for the roster, second for the stages (probably not all but most of them) and third for the battle system (one versus one on the first, up to four players free for all in the second). This new battle system clearly hampered the attacks, making them less flashy or effective, of course taking a more noticeable toll on the finisher attacks (save one, probably two exceptions). I expected way more from it, and for that reason I was 50/50 on the new Rumble Arena-like game they presented not long ago, which I finally decided against.

I've also been disappointed by X-Men Next Dimension. It had a ton of glitches where animations couldn't display properly, you could go beyond walls, for some reason the animations were blocked or blacked out... Not to mention the whole 3D battle system was messed up, to the point you could dodge a projectile attack without pressing any button. Also, the story mode was very crappy, and didn't had the ability to save progress, so it was all in one go or start from the beginning.

I could also add in the WipeOut series. It tried to be a mix of Mario Kart and F-Zero, but failed miserably, and even then it's F-Zero who has fallen out of production and not WipeOut. The weapons are incredibly rare, the ships are weird, the tracks are even weirder... How can this series see so many releases?

These are the ones I remember more clearly. If I dive a bit more into all the games I've played over time, I'm sure I can find more examples.

One of the worst games that I have ever played was Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness. I remember being so excited to buy this game before it came and when it came out, I brought the game to play it right away. Boy, was I disappointed! The controls were so bad and I couldn't adapt to them after playing for a year in the game which lasted a month of game time for me. The gameplay and game mechanics were either hard or confusing or both because I had no idea what was happening half of the time. Harvest Moon is a game series where people of all ages enjoy because of its different unique style for each game in the series yet simple and fun to play. This game was the complete opposite of the others that I have played.
The only aspect I enjoyed about this game was its soundtrack. I ended up selling this game a couple of months later since it spent more time collecting dust than being played. This was the only Harvest Moon game yet so far that I hated majority of the time playing it and I am a Harvest Moon fan. What a waste of $43 and a waste of time for me.

Oh man, there are plenty of bad games I have played. I can name some of them like Gotcha! for the NES. You needed both the controller and light gun and half the time the game did not register a hit. The X Men for NES,what a load of crap that game was. Your partner would always get stuck and deaths were cheap. Not to mention the game was bad in gameplay and graphics. Beyond the Beyond, man that game sucked on PS1,it was boring and it felt like it just dragged on forever. Shaq-Fu for the SNES,damn that was awful from day one. I cannot believe someone Kickstarted that game. Mega Man Soccer for SNES,what were they thinking? Transformers for the NES,that game was bland and cheap as hell. And let us not forget the king of all crap games...E.T. for the Atari 2600. I had the misfortune of playing that game. No wonder it was buried in a landfill.

Worst game I've ever played? Rascal for PSX. I managed to get to the final stage, losing every bit of my sanity in each level though mostly because of the controls and the camera. So when I reached the final stage I was like "Cool, now I'mma face that bloody guy who's messing with time and end all this!". But I was not expecting a gauntlet to block my way, a boss rush in order to finally face him. There's more, I couldn't beat the first boss since it's a flying creature, half bird and half human, and you drain all the liquid you have in store in your crappy bubblegun just to desperately hit that damn boss. There's only one recharger in the room and that's it. I don't know how many hits you need to beat this guy and I'm not sure if you can make through this boss rush without cheating. Either it's nearly impossible if you play fair at this point of the game and they don't really playtested the game from start to finish or I'm just really dumb. Second option could be more appropriate, I still have the game in my collection

Most disappointing game I've ever played? I have to say Tomb Raider 2013. The game has potential with cool features and stuff, even though it becomes quite repetitive as far as you progress in the game. The story is ok (I mean, I really like the Japanese folklore the game deals with), however I still express my anger about the last boss. I'm not talking about the giant demonic samurai armor you have to beat at the end but the leader of the cult. To sum this fight up: double gun and keep "poof poofing" wherever you want on his body until he falls off from the platform you stand on. End of story, the survivors of that journey are back home and you end the game. Wooo, you talk about a great final boss fight. I was really into this game, doing every single objective and optional tomb. But the end of this game is in my opinion rushed. It's like they were out of ideas for the finale.

pacN : I'm kinda with you on this.  Resident Evil 4 seemed like it was going to be better than what it was.  I won't complain about the escort missions because any game with escort missions throw them in to provide variety.  That's just how things are done with first person shooters.

But Resident Evil 4 was a first person shooter and did not feel at all like survival horror to me.  The graphics were great, the gameplay and story line were interesting and it kept me going and I finished it.  I just didn't feel like it was what I wanted or hoped or expected.  I liked the gore, especially when the guy with the chainsaw got nice and close and there's an eyeball flying around.  That was fun.

The other disappointment was Jaws for PS2.  I got it and expected it to be campy but it was worse.  It wasn't a "So bad it's good" game.  It was just not fun.  Too bad.

Final Fantasy IX is the top one for me. If it hadn't been for the chocobo and stelazzio sidequests, I would honestly never have completed the game. It was so uninteresting that I don't remember a single element from the scenario. Even the music wasn't so exceptional, compared to VIII or even VII.

In a similar way, Dragon Warrior VI was also a big disappointment. The game was always ever-improving in gameplay and scenario; VI has basically not solid story once you defeat Mudo. It's also insanely difficult even with savestates.

Laian : they're human whaddya expect?

janus : Meh the thing with IX is that it's really a homage of all the other Final Fantasy games... but meh... I could sit here and disagree with you all day about VIII having a great soundtrack as well.. it's got 2 memorable songs for me... but y'know we all like different things...

I guess a few games i've found disappointing are.... Final Fantasy XIII... it was just awful.... Fallout 4... the game that added stuff in because it was popular and failed to provide an actual story... Naruto Generartions... It's just meh compared to the ones actually based on the manga...Punch Club is the most recent one.... It's just like game dev tycoon essentially.. but the progression takes 19 times longer...

but the worst game i've played that was "hyped" was the FNAF series...

Hands down, it would have to be the Saw game for the PlayStation 3. I love horror games, and this being one of my favorite movies, I had high hopes. Instead, I get something that for one was so annoying, and the graphics made it worse. Most of the time your stuck, in what pretty much is the same trap, and it wasn't even fun traps. I didn't like the story at all. Just all around a bad game.

I hated playing the original version of Super Mario Bros. 2 that was released in Japan on the Fanicom system. I thought the game would have been like the Lost Levels, but you had to beat the game 8 times in order to unlock worlds A - D and try to finish the game. In the All-Stars version, the game just went to world A after finishing world 9. Also, in the original game, world 9 just repeated, and you had to reset the game and go back to the start menu to keep playing. Anyway, the game was a huge disappointment, and nothing like what I expected.

Tyrian Delirium : I wasn't talking about the "memorability" of the track, I was talking about its quality. I own much more FF VIII music than IX.

Memorability of soundtracks belongs to the 16-bit era. FF IV and VI can evoke so much more than the PSX-era games. So I guess this could be another deception.

As far as what I'd consider to be the worst games I've ever played, one of those would definitely have to be E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Many people have talked about how much of an abomination that game is, so I don't really need to go into detail as to why that game is so terrible. Same goes with Superman 64, the game about you going through rings while having to deal with an unfair time limit and awful controls that make it nearly impossible to beat.

Here are a few games I would consider to be some of the worst, while at the same time also being some of the most disappointing games I've ever played are Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Sonic 06 is of course infamous for it's game breaking glitches and the kissing scene where Elise (a human) kisses Sonic (a hedgehog). Just thinking about that scene makes me wanna hurl. Now as far as Boom goes, there are a few glitches, but nothing like 06 offers. What makes Boom so bad is it's awful dialog, terrible character designs, bland combat, and bland music, something most Sonic games don't have. I had hopes that both of those games would be great, with 06 being Sonic's first HD adventure, and Boom seeming like an interesting spinoff that could've been a breath of fresh air for the series, but both games ended up being the worst in the series.

The only other game that I can consider to be among the worst and most disappointing would definitely have to be Yoshi's New Island. I was hoping for that game to be the first Yoshi game I enjoyed since Yoshi's Island, but instead was treated to worse graphics than the original which came out NEARLY 20 YEARS AFTER, a god awful soundtrack that hurts my ears whenever I listen to it, and gameplay that somehow manages to be worse than the original. I don't think I've ever been as disgusted with a sequel as I was with Yoshi's New Island, which is the 2nd worst 3ds game I've ever played behind only Madden NFL Football. I have 43 3DS games in my collection, so that shows how bad that game is. Whatever you do, don't buy it.

I got Dead Bits for 4 cents (97% off!!). Worth the money honestly, but holy crap that game sucks. It's an indie Unity first-person shooter where all the graphics are solid color blocks, you have 3 guns and they all suck, it's super buggy, the spawning is whack, and some of the levels are so stupidly designed that they're impossible. It's as if the developer just decided "Hmm, I think I'll make 40 zombies spawn here but make a giant zombie charge them from behind, it'll be a challenge and gamers just love challenges!" The whole game is super cliche and unprofessional, too.

Dead Bits gives me red ****s

I don't remember exactly when, but, I once got a game for the PS2 called Future Tactics:The uprising, and my reaction was "what the heck is this"?

I think it was some sort of turn based RPG or something, but, it was just so boring and it took so long to do anything.I'm easy to please when it comes to games and I'd like to think I can find a bright spot in the most atrocious of games, but, I returned that game in, I not exactly sure, but, I think it was probably a week or less.

i'll list 2, although there were many.
these 2 i actually owned and not just rented or tried out because someone else had it.

x-men for NES and battle of olympus for NES.

both of these games had horrendous difficulty levels, causing them to not be enjoyable at all.
plus the x-men game might as well have been on atari for the awful graphics.
the music was probably the only reason it wouldn't be.
i often wished that i had the opportunity to rent these games before being forced to buy them for like 50 something bucks a pop back in the day.
the makers of x-men for NES ought to have been found guilty for stealing people's money.

Tyrian Delirium :
Oh that, I know. Indeed, they're human but that's not the excuse to this. Devil May Cry 3 had a better final boss fight, so memorable to me. Facing your brother for the third time in the game might look like they had no other ideas either, although the fight is challenging even on normal mode. You have to use your skills to beat an opponent who has the same skills. And the symphonic tune in the background made that fight more intense than usual. Clearly, this fight is in my top 10 of the epicest final boss fights I've ever played and seen. Which is not the case with the final boss fight of Tomb Raider 2013. I did not enjoy it at all. I won't keep good memories of this fight. Just the fact that it was ridiculously easy. Now, that's just how I think of this game. I've been disappointed by the ending. Coming from Crystal Dynamics, you could expect something a bit better, especially if the game itself has some potential.

oh, i can think of a few right offhand.

Fable 3: do i need to list reasons as to why? i think everyone knows why this one bombed worse than the 2nd game and it's...ok, that wasn't a final boss at all.

Divinity II: Ego Draconis: theres so many things wrong with this one...makes me question why it was even released at all.

or more recently (this christmas actually), The Last Remnant: i have good reason to hate this games combat system. it's the same ass backwards system they use in the SaGa game franchise. oh sure, you can train you're characters and get stronger BUT in doing so, you punish yourself by having all the monsters in the game grow stronger in turn. basically, if you want to do good you have to play the game more or less the opposite of how you would virtually all other RPGs by doing a low lvl/high stat run. well, that's not how i play rpg games.

i might, might not, finish the last remnant some day but at least i now know the exact reason i've always been so...put off by the SaGa games. the combat system

Not the worst game I've played, but most disappointing was either Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (Obvious reasons, I love the first two and this was like...well you know.) or the Final Fantasy games (or, most). Which is weird because everyone loves the FF series.

That was my problem with it. I tried out a few games, and after a lot of people always talking good about it, saying it's the best game series ever, It was kind of disappointing it was mostly...alright. I played a few games, and they were good, but I was expecting this grand game series that was completely mind-blowing, and it was, alright.

Before anything, I like the FF games. They're good, mostly. It was just disappointing after being hyped so much by other people. The problems aren't the game, the problem *I* had was the fact that people played it up way too much that going in, even as good as it is, I was disappointed a bit.

It should be no surprise I don't like the FNAF series after the first one, so one of the worst games is FNAF World.
