SWTerra :

You do play games normally from time to time, right? Then again, once I think about it, to speedrun a game efficiently you have to beat it at least once normally to memorize everything.

LunarDarkness2 : Lol, that's definitely true, but it goes much deeper than that, especially glitch runs, which are a whole other league that I tend not to enter. They're more entertaining for me to watch than to try to imitate, in my opinion.

A speed run is only good for showing off on posting on You Tube. I would rather play the game my way and have fun with it.

Oldschool777 : Well, many people, like myself, find games more fun when they are trying to compete.

There's a big misconception that every speedrunner has to play through the game the exact same way in order to stay in the loop. Now, while that is mostly true for many linear games (and even then, different methods are often utilized among runners overall), open-ended games have a lot more freedom as to how you execute your route. And even then, not every speedrunner is out to grab world records. While certainly an awesome addition if I make it to the SDA record on my end, my main reason for speedrunning is to try and perform my runs at charity events, which means I'll take my foot a little off the gas to have more fun at times and generally coordinate the run more towards it being more fun (and less frame-perfect at times) as opposed to being the fastest route.

Competition is fun and addictive,I will give you that. There will never be a perfect way to play the game, only a suggested way. Like when I play Front Mission 3,sure I could just follow a guide for it,but there are times it is not possible. For example, they suggest having a melee unit in your squad and they can only attack/counterattack when the enemy is beside them. Aside from having a low action cost,I cannot justify that, especially when I have units armed with machine guns and rifles trying to tear me apart.

Forgive me,a bit off topic.

Oldschool777 :

It's alright to go a bit off-topic once in a while, so don't stress about things like that too much. It's only bad when it get too far off-topic for a long period of time.

Lexatom :
This wasn't exactly something you needed to point out. Stop being such a noob. so hard on yourself man.

No, I've never really tried speed running, and don't really ever intend to. I'm not all that great with it, and for the most part really enjoy taking my time with games. I'm one of those people who like to search every little nook and cranny, finding every little detail or any thing else the game may have to offer, no matter how small or obscure. I guess if I ever find a game I love as much as Resident Evil 4, since I played through it 20 + times from start to finish, and knew every thing there was to know about the game, I may try to speed run through it just to see how well I do.

I have nothing against others who do it, and even admire their skill. It's just not for me. I don't have the patience, nor concentration required to try and rush through a game that quickly and efficiently, making the most of every single second the clock is counting away.
