Well, as all of you know, February 27, 2016 is only about a month away and that day exactly mark 20 years since the Pokemon series began.

Nintendo has also declared 2016 "The Year of Pokemon"

Nintendo and Game Freak has already announced to celebrate the milestone, that they are planning to release the first 3 Pokemon games (Red, Blue, and Yellow) on the Nintendo 3DS's Virtual Console, and not just that, they have also announced a few other things.

They have also planned to release a special edition New Nintendo 3DS featuring Charizard and Blastoise and the handhelds will have both Pokemon Red and Blue pre-installed, these handhelds will be released February 27th

Just today, they announced that they will be giving out every single Mythical Pokemon each month in the rest of 2016, so, if you missed out on a mythical Pokemon in the past 20 years and really wanted one, this is the time to do it.

They also planning to sell 20th anniversary material in the Pokemon Center shop pretty soon to celebrate the milestone, they will release this in a few weeks.

Also, this is just a rumor but what I heard, on February 27, Nintendo and Game Freak is going to announce something big on the 20th anniversary regarding the Pokemon series, which could be the official announcement of the next Core Pokemon game which would be named "Pokemon Z", lets hope that's true.

LunarDarkness2 : That might be behind the delay of Z's announcement. You know, come to think about it, Pokemon's 10th anniversary in 2006 is when Diamond and Pearl was announced. So, I do see Z being announced, or Generation VII, or maybe both.

Well, it's nice to see they're doing this "Year of Pokemon" thing. It's the perfect present for fans, new and veterans alike. The amount of nostalgia felt the day the old fans get their hands on the newly re-released RBY will be immense. I wonder if any owner of that game in the past will take this chance of showing it to his/her child, after all, 20 years is a lot of time.

I'm also positive on the announce of Z the day of the 20th birthday. Still too soon for Generation VII, even more if the Generation VI hasn't been fully revealed yet. It's either Z or another big surprise, and since we already know about Super Mystery Dungeon and Go, what else could they have up their sleeve?

Twenty years, six generations. The tried and true formula of Pokémon and the RPG as a whole continues to live on through all this time.

I find it really funny that they're releasing RBY re-makes with no graphical update. The contrasts of graphics 20 years are stark, but hey, it's not too bad, honestly. It's going to be very weird if I decide to get the re-make (which I may), since I've never really extensively played any of the games before the Special split (Sp.A/Sp.D; I started on Generation III). But hey, chubby Pikachu is chill.

Real talk, I'm very interested in what they might reveal. It could be something expected, or a complete surprise. Regardless of what is revealed, I think it's pretty much a given that it's going to be an addition to the main series. They have done so much with the side games over the past year or so (including freemium, much to my anger since I don't like freemium games), so not coming up with a mainstream announcement would be pretty counter-intuitive.

I saw the pictures of the new Pokemon Blue/Red 3Ds' consoles. They look pretty cool, although I already have a new 3DS XL so I don't really feel the need to pick up this one. That and I'm not the biggest pokemon fan in the world either. I like the games, I just don't go crazy for them like a lot of people do.

20 years is nothing, this game will never run out of ideas so we will see many more milestones but its also really cool they made it this far. I'm really excited for the monthly Pokemon, I plan on doing this for each one.

Jordanv78 : I have the same feeling about the 3DS, I also just got a New 3DS XL around a couple months ago and don't see getting this New 3DS. Plus this is the first release of the smaller New 3DS outside of Japan, and unless you have the 1st edition of the 3DS (the one that released in 2011), then it isn't really worth getting a smaller screen, and like someone said, once you go a bigger size, you don't go back.

zanderlex : That is true, the Pokemon series always update with new generations. Once a generation starts getting stale, they release a new generation and refresh the series.

SWTerra : Well, that's the thing with Virtual Console, they keep the original graphics and sounds like they were then they were originally released, which is cool of Nintendo to keep their originality in their VC.

I think with a franchise like Pokemon, it would be cool to not only have the ORIGINAL games available on the Nintendo Shop, but also have a remastered version that had some 3D effects in certain areas. Kinda like what they did with the Majoras Mask Remake for 3DS.

To be honest, I didn't even realize the screen was smaller than the new 3DS Xl. I just glanced at the email and didn't really inspect further, since I really didn't have any interest in trading my system in for a Pokemon one when I'm not the biggest pokemon fan in the first place.

IgorBird122 : I actually still have the first generation 3DS, but since I'm not that big a fan of Pokemon (besides Mystery Dungeon, as I have mentioned before), I don't really care too much for getting that 3DS. I'd rather take my old 3DS and get a new 3DS XL if I'm going to upgrade it at all.

Also, it is kind of cool. It's just rather strange overall to see, is all. Also, if I recall, there is more functionality than the standard Virtual Console, such as multiplayer, which isn't a feature in Virtual Console on the 3DS. It would be really nice if they updated other Virtual Console games (ESPECIALLY the GBA games) to support multiplayer. I would pay full game price for a Kirby and the Amazing Mirror Virtual Console re-release with multiplayer compatibility (and possibly lag fixes since the GBA's inherent hardware actually couldn't do all of that smoothly; even on its own the AI exploring certain places can lag the game at random intervals, which makes it fun for speedrunning like I do). But I digress.

It's hard to believe it's already been 20 years since Pokemon first came out. I've been a fan since pretty much the beginning. That series and Mario are the 2 main reasons I became the gamer I am today. If it weren't for those 2 franchises, I might not have become a gamer for life. Happy 20th anniversary Pokemon, and may the next 20 years be just as wonderful as the first 20 were!

IgorBird122 : Yep, I can't wait to see what they have ready for the next generation. After they finish up with this one of course, so gen 7 if there is one probably wouldn't be released until like 2018 at this rate which would be good though because it would mean that the series lasts longer without having to come up with a bunch of extra stuff.

zanderlex : I think they will start Generation VII in 2017, the reason I think in 2017. Release Z in 2016, then Gen VII's first 2 games in 2017, then a Sinnoh remake in 2018 then a 3rd Gen VII region game in 2019, then start Gen VIII in 2020 then a Kanto re-remake in the 25th anniversary in 2021.

I feel their efforts next year will be elsewhere from the main Gen games, like how 2015 was for Super Mystery Dungeon. I can feel 2017 going into Go, or another big outside game

zanderlex : That might be, I know that they are focusing on both GO and Z, and they really want to try and release GO. But at the same time, they also want to get a core Pokemon game out, we'll find out on the 20th anniversary.

I'm kind of ticked. I'm a fanboy for Pokemon. It's the 20th anniversary, and I want to get all the 20th anniversary merchandise such as the Red New 3DS Bundled with Pokemon Red, and the plushies and figures of mythical Pokemon that they are giving out each month. Problem is, I have no money. I cri evrytiem. :c

I know some of you have heard about this, but The Pokemon Company and Nintendo said that wait till Super Bowl 50, they will air something that Pokemon fans will love (related to the 20th anniversary), and the Super Bowl is the biggest event of the year that people watches, more than any other program, and the only time of the year that people actually watches commercials (other times, people go use the bathroom or fast forward through commercials).

So, this is a huge thing that Nintendo and The Pokemon Company is doing, especially a huge milestone like the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, it'll costs us$5,000,000 per 30-seconds (that's 5 million). So, this will either make or break them.

I will be looking forward to this commercial from The Pokemon Company.
