Vanelan : I've never heard of that, the only thing that I use is the calories on my apps which usually stop at like 400 to 500.

Vanelan : As I said I am off-chart. "Normal" men below 30 usually spend 1500, and female 1200.

Ghostbear1111 : Thanks, I guess you explained it better than I did. However as I mentionned, apps rarely calculate your REAL BMR,

Oh, and another thing I've wanted to add is that I've had the worst luck with fitness trackers, although it's possibly because I do very physical and contact activities, so they most likely break from shock (even though the better ones claim to be shock-proof, if I recall correctly).

I've had four UP bands break on me, two Fitbit Forces lose their bluetooth capability (making them useless), and two Misfit Shines get dislodged from the clasp and disappear, each one within a month. I've kind of decided against buying any more of that after wasting so much money on them, although I now have my Samsung Gear S2, which has SOME ability to track exercise. I doubt it's too accurate, though, and besides, I use it mostly because I have a Galaxy phone and operate it slightly through the Gear.

janus : Your BMR is an estimation based on height, age, gender, body weight, body mass (like fat vs. lean tissue), and a few other factors.  It's a generalization and there are 100s of BMR calculators that give you an approximation of what you're doing to maintain thermogenesis, breathing, blood circulation, and organ function.

It's a good number to start basing weight loss because it gives you an idea of where you need to start from a nutrition standpoint.  If you're a few hundred calories off, that's okay, because you kinda know what you should be doing in excess to what you're eating.

It's a guideline.  It's a nice thought and not 100% accurate, but neither are calorie counts for food.

janus : Its all averages anyway. To get accurate readings, there are other factors that need to be taken into account....mostly activity level.

I found this BMR calculator. I dunno how accurate it is, but maybe you can give it a try and see what it suggests your BMR is. :3
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
It also has a link to the Harris Benedict equation that is supposed to adjust the calculator's reading according to your activity level.

zanderlex : I am not sure what you are referring to when you say your "app stops at 400 to 500."
Maybe its saying how many calories you need to burn to lose your desired amount of weight?

Vanelan : It's not that it just stops, that's where it usually is when the day ends and it resets. Like right now its at 457

Vanelan : Interesting. Without even entering my activity level, my BMR is around 1859 calories. I guess being tall requires a lot of energy.

Ghostbear1111 : I know. Besides food labels amalgate ALL calories together, and "everyone" knows they are not created equal.

A good way to track your food is a free app call "my fitness pal" that you can download for Android and Ios.
This app is really cool because not only can you track your daily calorie intake, you can also follow your weight and measurements. All in one place.

What's nice is that you don't have to do any research. You can even scan the barcode of an item and find all the micro nutrient data.

I hope that everyone's doing well in their weight loss goals and resolutions set from the new year!

My dad has this thingy he keeps on his wrist that keeps track of his health for him. I don't exactly know how it works, but I think it sends data to something on his computer that he can check after his day. It's pretty cool. :V
