It's official! Geeo will have a brother from now on to the end of February!

It's nice we finally see a new user placing this soon into the competition. I remember how we almost went half of the month with nobody scoring points for the white banner in October, and seeing how activity has been so far this month it's very good news. Hopefully more users will be fighting for it, there's still plenty of time to join the fray.

Just kidding. It would be nice to see a real competition for it though. Seeing only 1 name on the list for the whole month would be boring.


I am happy with how I've done so far though. I've probably gotten half the points I got for the entire competition last time in the first 3 days this time.

Thank you all for the encouragements, but I will not have the highest score ever. I am out of reviews, video uploading is slow (although I can imagine they have a work overload) and it seems that music uploading is harder than I imagined. However, watch out for the yellow jersey

geeogree : Either newbies are not curious or they do not want to compete. It took me a while before noticing Tour de Vizzed when I joined.

geeogree : That's actually another thing I have been working on, I pmd a bunch of new users with advice and stuff and also told them a bit about it.

I didn't expect to be this close to 2nd place but that's all because of the review I did and I have no idea when I will finish my next one so I might not see points in red for a while, but its good to have the lead for blue.

zanderlex : The same way that there are automatic messages for someone's birthday, could there be a way to send one to newbies to announce Tour de Vizzed?

janus : Do you know how many newbies there are? Well not all newbies would count. You still have newbies from many years ago. Only the newbies from November to now would count for that, and that's still about 80 to 100 per day. Ir would probably take a lot more space to automatically send that to everyone. That would be about 2-3K extra PM's per month, with most of them being overlooked.

What I did, was I only sent welcome and TDV PM's to users who logged in again a day or two after they joined, instead of also getting the people who sign up and leave. Even then, only about 20% of them even read the PM.

Fun Fact: 6 of the users replied saying that if they hadn't found out about the features of the board, they would have stayed In just the rgr. Those 6 combined for more than 100 posts since I started this.

janus : Yeah, we do happen to have more Newbies than any of the other ranks combined, and 3/4 of them are RGR-only Newbies.

Like what Zander said, basically any newbies that joined 6 months ago or earlier, they will come to the boards at some point; but any newbies that joined 6 months ago or later, more in likely (not 100%) that they will stay in the RGR. I basically have 3 different sub-names for all the newbies on here, "Posting Newbies" (that made at least 1 post), "RGR Newbies" (doesn't post, but active in the RGR) and "Name-Hogging Newbies" (users that just joined only one day and never returned again).

Although we don't have the record for longest time without a user in the white banner, that would be halfway through the month and I don't remember which Tdv it was. Everyone that scored at least a point has been on at least 3 months, maybe if David raise it to 6 months or keep at 3 months and hope for more beginning members to start and post again, then we can see the white banner being active again.


-Edit- actually scratch that, David ninja'd me (again) with yesterday's results and we manage to get a user in the white banner.

IgorBird122 : The people I work with are the RGR newbies and the post newbies. For the RGR noobs, I tell them about different ways to get Viz so they can buy more games and get things like the playstation item. I even give them links to the introductions forum, market forum, and generosity thread.

For moons that made a few posts, I tell them about the tdv and specifically the white banner competition. I got a few replies from those guys saying they would compete at times.

OK, maybe I formulated this wrong. How about sending an automated message to people who would "qualify" for the white banner? I do not know much about coding, but there should be a way. I know most will not pay attention to it, but it is worth a shot.

An alternative would be to talk about Tour de Vizzed in the "welcome package" people receive (should be receiving?)

It's nice to see some new users in the top in this Tdv, referring to Vanelan and geeogree. 

Then of course there are the usuals like janus and zanderlex, but that was pretty much expected before the TdV even started.

From the looks of it, I almost have a guarantee for Red today, but, again, it IS TdV. Anything can happen. I'm in 1st for Yellow as well, but there's someone following closely behind, so I'll have to keep up the posts, which will also get me some points for blue. And I'll try and get some points for green whenever I feel like it. XD

IgorBird122 : 90 days to qualify for White Banner is perfect because that way it prevents anyone from winning it twice.

janus : I could look into mentioning the TdV in the welcome message at some point. I really need to get around to modifying that all together because there's a lot of things it should mention that it doesn't. It's probably been years since I last edited it.

Barathemos : Yeah it's always great to see some new competitors rather than the same competitors all the time.

Davideo7 : I know. And your description of the green jersey in the site's FAQ is still the old "the most posts in an hour" one. But it is minor compared to the other problems you must deal with

Davideo7 : That is true because TdV is every 3 months. Basically the only way that someone could get a white banner for 2 TdVs is if someone joined in the 2nd half of TdV and win White and then in the next TdV, they get a bunch of points in the first half, but this hasn't really happened, either that or if they already won a white banner, they would already got DQed for white in the next TdV.
