Hey there. Recently been wanting to play some gameboy games (pokemon to be precise) and whenever I go to open it, and change the controls via double clicking, or right clicking then configuration then clicking the button I want to change it won't change it.

For example. I like having "select" as my right shift key. So I click the box that has "Select" and "Backspace" as the button, but when I do it highlights it but when I press the "Right Shift" key on my keyboard it won't change. It stays as "Backspace".

It's never done this before for me. Any help is appreciated. Thank you <3

VBA has some strange control issues.
If you haven't gotten too far, I would suggest you use the 2nd emulator option to play. (MEDNAFEN)

Vanelan : Mednafen doesn't accurately emulate a certain aspect on the GBA that is required for games like Pokémon to save naturally. That's only an option if you don't expect to play post-game content, which most people do.

Hm, this is odd. Joypad configuration with an external gamepad works fine, but keyboard configuration won't budge. I can't say I know what's happening here.

For some people's sakes, I'll at least list what I'm using. My OS is Windows 7/8 (doesn't seem to work on either of the two), and I'm using Firefox.

SWTerra : I haven't had any issues with mednafen and saves on the vizzed plugin or on the raspberry pi.
What issues are you referring to?

Vanelan : I'm talking about saving Gen III Pokémon games. You can save state, but the actual game itself can't save.

I would like to test it and see if I can find a fix if it didn't work.

Yeah, unfortunately, this is a known issue for a small percentage of users that we haven't been able to figure out what's causing it. Been going on for awhile now too.

I've heard mixed results with deleting the VBA config file, or re-installing. But nothing solid.

Usually the easiest solution for now is to recommend using Mednafen (as mentioned before)

Vanelan : https://www.vizzed.com/play/pokemon-emerald-gba-online-game-boy-advance-10643-game

It has something to do with save type. It should be Flash, as opposed to SRAM, as VBA typically defaults to. If you see "The 1M sub-circuit board is not installed," then in-game saves still won't work, since that's required for saves with Gen III Pokémon. While Mystery Dungeon Red doesn't warn this itself, the same applies there. Judging from what little I've looked up, Mednafen runs on a variant of VBA, so it should have the necessary emulation to allow in-game saves.

A board thread on the Mednafen forum related to the issue: http://forum.fobby.net/index.php?t=msg&goto=2462&

SWTerra : Yeah the The 1M sub-circuit board is not installed has been an issue for awhile as well. Generally speaking the recommendation to users at this point would be to use save states.

SWTerra : From what I am seeing, it seems they have a solution to the saves by using that file that is linked.
I can't test it right now, but I'll let you know.

I use Chrome on windows 7 OS.

Before anyone says "RGR doesn't work with Chrome" well I want to just say it has for me in the past. I've had no issues before unless something has changed, and by before I mean like 2 months ago.

I've had this issue before, but usually restarting the game fixes it, but this time it doesn't.

I also tried with other browsers (Firefox and IE), but neither worked to change the controls.

I don't like using the second emulator as it runs really weird on my system, as if it is really, really choppy.

I'll try uninstalling the RGR or possibly deleting that one thing you guys said, and try again.

Hopefully this isn't a nonstop issue.

Nikushimi : RGR has worked fine with Chrome ever since the 2.40 update. So that's not a problem

The problem that you are describing is a common problem although not all users experience it. It's been going on for awhile now too. Hopefully it's fixed in a future update but there's no timetable with regards to that.

Ok...I found a solution similar to the VBA solution, but for MEDNAFEN! :3

Its a bit complicated, so I might need to rework it to make it into a more streamlined process...
Download this file to somewhere you are going to remember it:
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/upload/files/emeraldfix.zip

Press Windows+R and type in (or copy/pasta) c:programdatavizzedVizzedRgrPlugin
Open folder user-(your#)
Open Mednafen_new
Open sav
Copy the 2 files in the zip file you downloaded earlier into the folder and overwrite anything that might be in there.

Warning: This WILL delete any saves you had before and start you at nothing....sorry...only way this works.
There is a dummy save in there called NewGame with no progress, you probably should select "New Game" and create your own character and overwrite the existing save when you save.

If i figure out a better way to do this, I'll make another post I suppose.

Jordanv78 : I know, but I don't really play anything else. The N64 games I would like to play incorporate the C buttons, analog, and directional pad which is really hard to remember on just a keyboard, and I can't even access PS1 games yet due to lack of points to be able to (I'd love to be able to so I could play Legend of Dragoon and the FF series), and the other games I'm not quite interested in.

Thanks for the help though!
