That sucks man. My car was broken into a few months ago and I'm pretty sure the doors were unlocked as well. I had to think about it at the time because I always lock my doors and I could've sworn I did it the day before it happened. And my car is always outside because we have a one car garage but two vehicles ( a Honda CRV and Accord ) so one of them ( the Accord ) has to stay outside and it's basically mandatory to lock your doors when your car is outside ( no matter what town you reside in ).
I was coming home from the store in the CRV and as I pull into the garage I noticed that the driver door to the Accord was opened slightly and I instantly knew that some intruder had gone in there. The window wasn't broken, the door wasn't damaged at all, and then I thought "Why isn't the car alarm going off?" ( assuming that I had locked the doors, which I always do ). So, I tested out the car alarm thinking that maybe somehow it was defective or broken, but... no, it was still working. When I entered the Accord, there all kinds of items scattered on the front seat of the car ( items like pens from the console, papers from the glove box, etc. ) but luckily I had nothing of extreme value in there at the time, however, there was one item that was stolen. It was an organizer that fits onto the sun visor, in which it had multiple pockets with zippers that I stored my insurance card and registration in. The invader left the insurance card and registration on the passenger seat and took off with the organizer. It's a cheap thing really, no more than $5 and I don't even remember where we got that from. I'm just glad that they didn't take the radio, which is easily detachable with the push of a button. But I guess they were looking for something a little more materialistic like cash or a wallet of some kind. Not sure who could have done something so childish.
A few years back, this would be unheard of because our neighborhood was really friendly and there was virtually no crime at all. But ever since the renters started showing up more and more over the past few months, there has been a significant increase in the crime rate from stealing rims to house shootings. I don't know who could have done this but I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the renters around our residence.
