So, we park our car out front of our house because we don't have a garage and this morning we found that our car had been broken in to.

Thankfully we don't keep anything of value in our van but it is still annoying to have our stuff picked through and tossed around the vehicle. It's also not great knowing that there is someone going through the neighborhood breaking into vehicles right now.

Still, no real harm was done as far as we can tell but it still makes me nervous thinking about it.

Parking outside is getting dangerous. Luckily, you didn't keep anything valuable inside, but the least you expect it something like this can happen.  My cousin, for example, had one of his car's side mirrors stolen, and my friend had his car damaged when he went to an amusement park with his family. It's disgusting, but the word "respect" loses meaning for many people as days pass.

The worst of this situation is that there's nothing you can do about it. Maybe you can be updated by the police if someone is arrested for breaking into cars, but that's as far as it goes.

Oh....I am so sorry geeo I really hate when someone does that and takes things that are not of their own. That's the worst thing that can happen one time someone stole something from my mums car not a break in but a car part which was kind of weird in the first place. '-'

But its a real good thing that no harm was done in a way so its good to at least know that.

That's terrible... it's good you didn't lose anything valuable, but I can only imagine how you feel. Nothing is safe anymore. >.<

Was there any damage done to the car? Are all the locks, door frames, windows intact?

Wow dude, that sucks, though stuff like that happens often, it's just that the odds are low because of how many people there are. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Best case scenario is that the same person wouldn't try you again because I assume they didn't like what they found (Didn't find)

This happens in my neighborhood a lot. The thieves aren't bold enough to smash a window or anything but they walk around at night and pull on car doors trying to see if they're unlocked and will open. If you leave your car door unlocked at night you can pretty much say goodbye to anything valuable in your car. This is why I take everything valuable out of mine AND lock the doors as well. One of my neighbors had his car door unlocked because he forgot to lock it but luckily there was nothing in it of value. Unfortunately though the thief decided to pour coffee all over his seats. It's completely stained on the inside now.

One of my friends saw them trying to get into his car one time and he chased them down the street with a baseball bat. He said it looks like a bunch of teenagers or maybe young adults doing it.

Vanelan : nothing was damaged because I think we left the doors unlocked. We had a remote starter installed a few years ago and since then when we lock the door remotely it doesn't honk like it used to to notify us that the alarm is triggered and the doors are locked. It's possible that we forgot.

Still, it seems strange that anyone would have checked on the night we left it unlocked. Still, we didn't lose anything this time around which is nice.

Dang, that always sucks. We once had our car broken into as well, except my mom had left her engagement/wedding rings in there. We had been to a water park earlier that day, and she left her rings in the car so they wouldn't get messed up by the chlorine. Unfortunately, she forgot to put them back on after we got into the car, and accidentally left the rings in the car overnight. Of course, the thief stole both rings, and my mom was devastated.

Needless to say, we always double check that the doors are locked now.

geeogree : Wow, that is bad that your car was broken into. But it is a good thing that none of your valuable wasn't stolen or any of your important information either. That would really be bad if that was a case. It's at a point that a lot of people needs to be a lot more secure with their vehicles because society is getting worse and worse each day.

I am sorry that happened, george. It is disgusting to what our society has devolved to,but it is there. I am glad nothing of value was taken and nothing was broken or the car stolen. It is close to Christmas,so even thieves are looking for last minute money and stuff.

Oldschool777 : that's what we expect as well. We had DVD's in the car, phone chargers, car seats, car registration and insurance info and probably other things I can't think of that have some value (though not tons) that could have been stolen. My guess was they were looking for Christmas presents left in the van overnight or cash. There was stuff that could have been taken but wasn't.

All in all,I would say, consider yourself fortunate. If all they got was your change in the car and nothing else was taken or damaged, you got off easy.

That sucks. I'd be so mad if that happened to me. I'm glad that nothing was stolen at least, so I guess that's a plus. Still, I hate that people do that kind of stuff. I hope that this doesn't happen again.

He was most likely looking for presents or cash as you assumed. Car break-ins go through the roof around this time of year. At least you can take comfort in the fact that the criminal is dumb, registration and insurance info could possibly be used for identity theft.

Vanelan : Are said documents potentially sensitive?

That's awful! I'm glad nothing had been stolen, and that you and your family are alright though. Car break-ins are...awful. And it takes a special kind of scumbag to do something as dumb as that.

Sorry to hear that your car has been broken in to. Never a good feeling to have someone rifle around your personal belongings and tossing them around like they mean nothing. Glad to hear that nothing of value was stolen though and no one was hurt.

I remember the first car I ever owned got broken into and stripped clean when it was parked in the driveway of place like 15 years ago. Stereo, speakers, amps, and wheels all stolen. Never got any of it back either. My insurace also gave me a punch to the gut for paying me the "depreciated value" of it all, even though I had just purchased all of the stuff mentioned less than a month prior.

mariowin13 : do you want to pay for it because a garage costs a lot of money.

I live in a pretty nice part of time honestly. I don't think that has anything to do with it. Whether you live in a nice or a crappy part of town there will always be people in every area that do things like this. Obviously you don't expect it as much where I live but it still happens.

We haven't had it happen before at our current place but when we did live in a crappier part of the city we had someone break into our car (and actually break in that time) and stole a gym bag full of clothes. Pretty random but it did happen.

m0ssb3rg935 : I'd think so. You can get a lot of information from insurance and registration documents. Your address is right on the front. I am sure if you knew where to look, you can get ssns of you get access to the DMV info.

Jordanv78 : I feel like insurance is a scam. You pay so much into it and they do everything they can to give you little to nothing.

geeogree : Maybe they thought it was a nice gym bag? XD

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
