So, today I was finishing some playthrough for a GameCube game for my Wii, since I won't touch it in a week or more, and decided to close the cover for the GameCube's controllers port and the memory card slots so they don't become too dusty over time. When doing it, I noticed a small message inside the cover, which said it was removable as per the console's instructions.

I've owned the Wii for at least seven years, and while I'm not sure I noticed such message at the beginning, I did notice it today. I've decided to keep it, because I've found a ton of dust on my Wii sometimes (to the point it was barely white), but I'm curious to know if someone thought the opposite of me.

Now that my rant is over, did you ever remove the Wii's covers?

I actually did it by complete accident, and thought that I had broken them.

Since my Wii is in a very open place with not too much dust (but a lot of dog hair), and I figured that the actual system would give out first before the ports, I decided to keep them off to be that much more accessible. Also, it's worth remembering that the GameCube also has no covers for its controller ports (although it does have push-back ones for the Memory Card slots), and there's never really been a problem with them going bad because of it.

But where in the world do you have it that it gets that dusty? That's...quite a lot, to say the least...

SWTerra : Well, to put it simply, on a not so open environment. The room I have it in is barely used, it's kind of a storage room. Plus, it's not like I've paid much attention to it once I got my PS3. No joke, I tried to move it and it was almost glued to the furniture

Also, while the GameCube didn't have covers for the ports, they were placed horizontally, and at least in my case they are placed vertically on my Wii, so dust is sure to get in by pure gravity. Plus, they are covered because technically you don't need them, unless you play GameCube games or Wii games that accept a controller, like Brawl.

The memory card slots function well, even though they have been exposed for years without one inserted, so probably I should check the other three controller ports as well.

No, not me. My Wii broke after using it constantly over the years. I asked my parents if they could get me another, either a Wii or Wii U, for Christmas last year. But what do they do? Get me a Wii Mini. I'm still a bit mad they got the consoles mixed up, but enough of that. My cousin removed the coverings, because he used to play a lot on his Wii. However, he's moved onto his Wii U and PS4 now. I don't know what's become of his Wii.

I did once buy accident. I was trying to wipe it down to get the dust off when it came off. I left it off for a few days to see what would happen.

I have taken apart my consoles before to do different maintenance or make other repairs here and there, but I've had no reason to ever open my Wii. If I ever have issues with it, I'll look for this message lol

I've never done that before. Since I am not really the type of person to do so. I don't remove my consoles apart to explore I leave them how it is. Because once you break it. Then is not easy to fix back much less to put back together again. @.@

I saw that you can remove it, but I didn't see you would want to.
I currently have (and had since I got the console) a GameCube memory card plugged in with the cover attached.
