So upon playing and beating multiple video games based off of a(n) successful anime(s), I have come to the conclusion that video games that are based off of an anime generally aren't very good in both there storylines and gameplay despite having excellent source material.

This is my general opinion on video games that are based off of animes. So my question to you my fellow posters and anime fans is How do you feel in general about video games that are based off of successful anime shows?

Well I have seen some and some are ok while most others are not sadly. Usually when I come across a streamer playing an anime game I get excited well because I am a fan and I expect the game to be great. It would have a nice opening and such. But then as you progress into the game this is where the game either is good or bad. If it is bad then it will be to your disappointment. However if it is good then you'll want to know what happens further in the game. For me its kind of a 50/50 when it comes to anime games. '-'

I have mixed opinions about this.

For example, Dragon Ball videogames have drifted away from the anime lately, incorporating their own storyline. Those times up to Raging Blast 2 where you had a roster of +100 characters to choose where spectacular. Nowadays, they are more focused towards a special storyline and character customization, which is lame. Xenoverse doesn't have even half of the characters available in Raging Blast 2 just because it has customizable characters. Very lame. I want the anime characters over my own, specially counting that your own character will only have a unique design, as its moveset and attacks will all be based on an existing character.

Other games, like Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers, mimicked the anime storyline nearly perfectly. It missed some relevant characters, and the story wasn't complete because of that, but overall it was incredible. The sequel seems to have incorporated the latest anime as well, so I'm expecting an even better game.

To summarize, it all depends on how loyal to the anime it is. Give me the chance to control a big number of the characters appearing there, or the chance to battle against/cooperate with them, and I'm pleased. I don't care about the storyline, having the characters is what matters the most for me, and in close second place comes following the anime theme, not introducing wild experiments that can sometimes go very wrong (hello Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom).

EX Palen : I would certainly agree with you on the Dragon Ball part.  I have played almost all of them from Dragon Power for the NES, Sagas and all the budokai/ tenkaichi, to Xenoverse, and the newer ones just fell short for me as well.  I have played one of the Tenchi Muyo games, and it was pretty good.  I even named one of my cats after Ryoko.  I have played one of the Sailor Moon games, I forget what it was called, and I stopped playing it because I felt like I was just randomly running around and I had no idea what I was supposed to do.  I really like the idea of basing games off of anime because I am such a fan of both, but when the game doesn't live up to the awesome show you just watched, then it is disappointing.  I think they need to make games from some of the more brutal anime like Berserk or Helsing.

Turning Anime series into Video games doesn't work for everything but for Inazuma Eleven it works. The story is based on the Anime story but not everything goes that easy. You have to win soccer matches to advance in the story which is good. The game gives you creativity, a thing that the Anime doesn't. For example: in the game you build your own team together (you still get the main cast of course) and in the anime there is just a bunch of characters who play soccer and win tournaments. You decide everything in your game. The Inazuma Eleven games are actually more deep than the Anime. There's a lot you can do after the main story ended, even game exclusive parts.
