There's a certain "Ai wo Torimodose!!" from Fist of the North Star cover by Faylan that I absolutely prefer over the original. I'm not sure, she just gives it something that the original doesn't. Besides that I usually prefer the original over covers though I can respect a good cover.

One of my favorite covers is Hurt by Johnny Cash, covering Nine Inch Nails. I think he epitomizes the feeling of the song, and knowing his story, it's definitely a fitting cover. One of the reasons I really love the song is the Needle reference, since that's something I actually experienced for myself. 

I can't believe I'm blanking out again. I had 3 songs in mind when I remembered this thread was here to post in a little bit ago...

As others have said, I often enjoy orchestral/violin covers to many songs over the original. Other than that, the first thing that pops into my head is Bowling for Soup. They have many covers that I've enjoyed more than the original. The most popular one I can think of is probably Melt With You. I think that song just sounds much better with the faster pace.

Jontron's cover is essentially the only way I like Fireworks. Other than that, I don't like any other covers really. There are some good ones but I wouldn't prefer them to the original.
