These are in a category known as "Hacked and Homebrew". These are custom-made Pokémon editions, which feature things that basic games, like Fire Red do not. And, you should try living Ash Ketchum's life, in a game called Pokémon Ash Gray. The resemblance is uncanny!

I haven't figured out how to multi-quote or do some of the fancier things on this forum, so I'll try to answer everything posted:

I've played a lot of Pokémon hacks on Vizzed and there are many great ones. Light Platinum is pretty good if you ask me. I recommend:
- Pokémon Shiny Gold (basically Gold in GBA graphics).
- Pokémon Rebirth/Emerald 386 (an Emerald hack with all 386 Pokémon).
- Pokémon Ash Gray (based on the first season of the Pokémon Anime).
- Pokémon Snakewood (very interesting and perhaps a bit creepy).
- Pokémon Fuligen (you join Team Rocket in this game).
- Any of the Pokémon Ruby Destiny games. Great games overall.

There are a lot of more great hacks. I also suggest to read some of the game reviews about the hacks. Happy gaming! ~
