So particularly, movies are long, somewhat beautiful, and enjoyable videos to say the least. Whether it be in the horror genre, in which monsters and jump scares await you, the comedy genre, with jokes and laughs to keep you laughing with yourself and your family, or the action genre, with explosions (cliche), weapons, and more. All of those have a ending (or a cliffhanger) in which is the key factor of a movie. The ending may leave people in tears or make them happy, nevertheless in which it can make people judge the movie much more. However, lets talk about video games.
About video games, it is entertaining, but its story? Well, it can be emotional or adventurous, but in my opinion, it somewhat has a good/bad potential for a story like for a movie. And again, it can have a ending, but the ending can mostly be sad... Which is why I'm answering you a question.
WHAT IS THE SADDEST VIDEO GAME ENDING EVER?  Video games can have sad video game endings, whether it be Halo or Sonic, but what is yours? It can be any game (if it's official, no bootlegs) and it must have a ending that draws tears to your eyes, or make your mouth drop. So what's yours? I haven't play the whole game, but I think Super Metroid is a mention. When the baby metroid finds that Samus is getting beaten by Mother Brain, the baby comes to the rescue. It attacks Mother Brain and heals Samus. It tried to attack the fiendish enemy again, but it sadly feel. The baby dead, Samus avenged the baby by defeating Mother Brain, but has to escape the planet. So yeah that's mine, so what's yours (again)?

Well I prefer action or strategy games to sad ones...so I don't see a lot of sad endings but one I did see was on Magical Star Sign. No matter how high your level was, no matter what moves you knew, or how badly you trolled the bad guys, the ending is always the same. The woman you and your classmates go to save dies protecting you and the universe, and most of your classmates never see each other again.

For me it was Persona 4 Golden, or at least depending on the ending that you had because the entire last few sections were just so intense and sad. For the most part, everyone was saved and all, but it ended in such a depressing way really, especially with how everyone has to leave behind everything.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons ends on a sad note, but I don't want to spoil it.  The whole game is an emotional ride, and speaks in emotive ways rather than through words.  I didn't like the game as much as I should have, I believe, when I first played through it (and I waited until now to watch the full ending).  But I have to admit it's one of the most artful games out there.  Very few games can do what "Brothers" does, and none do it quite the same way.

I honestly can not think of any "sad" game endings among those I played in my life. Even Final Fantasy X did not cause sad emotions in me. I may be heartless then .

For me, the saddest video game ending has got to be when Dominic Santiago dies on Gears of Wars 3 sacrifices himself to save the other COGs. During the scene, the familiar piano version of Tears for Fears' / Gary Jules' "Mad World" plays in the background and all seems to go in slow motion. What's worst is that before he sacrificed himself, his wife and love of his life, Maria, is taken prisoner by the Locust and Marcus and Dom along with other COGs embarked in a mission to find her and he did. But, she wasn't her normal self anymore and Dom had to euthanize her, due to her suffering and lost sanity. His last moments with her were him apologizing to her. He shot Maria in the head to end her pain, and took the necklace he gave her when their son was born (breaks my heart). All of this pain from losing his wife and seeing his friends in danger made him sacrifice himself. He took one of the vehicles and drove into one of the bad guys that had emulsions all over so it exploded and killed many of the locusts and gave them all a chance to survive and carry on the mission. While it is not the ending of the game, it was the ending of a major character. I was heart broken as so were many others. Marcus and Dom seemed like the best team. Also, Dom's last words... "You didn't think it will end like this huh? Huh, Maria." The graphics, music, and all is just amazing but, sad he is gone.

Suikoden II, one of the best games of all times for the Playstation, has a very sad ending if you do it wrong.  I won't spoil it for those who haven't played it yet, but for the love of the gods, yell "NANAMI!!"  Oh yeah, have all one hundred and eight stars before you beat it.  The ending of Final Fantasy 8 (not sad at all) did bring a tear to my eye.  Great love story.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. Even though it is a "good ending", it still is just, I can't even say anything more without spoilers.

Oh, wait, I forgot spoiler tags were a thing.

Spoiler:
Even though it is "good" in that everything returns back to the way it should be at the end of the game, it is so quite emotional for the separation of Klonoa and Huepow in the end cutscene, but yet still quite beautiful.

Now, there has only been one time where I actually teared up while watching the cut scene of a game. Technically I didn't "cry" but I legitimately remember tearing up, so I came really close to crying.

Anyway, the game I was playing was Beyond: Two Souls that features Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. This is also probably my favorite game of all time. But without me trying to spoil anything, basically at the end of the game you have to choose between "Life" and "Beyond." You will get a somewhat sad story from either, but its probably the saddest ending that I have ever come across in any video game.

VizzedGuy111 :

The first game to come to mind that I've personally played is Xenosaga III. That was the first video game I ever played I truly felt was sad. I had grown a deep attachment to KOS-MOS and the rest of the cast (mainly KOS-MOS because I was basically in love with her shhh >u>) and the ending basically just... destroyed me from the inside. Not gonna spoil anything, but it's definitely a series worth checking out. Plus, when I'm in love with a game, I get super attached and emotional so when it all blew up I was just like "why is this happening to my babies QnQ!?!"

I'd also list P3, but I've only heard how sad it is; I sadly haven't beaten mine yet. Shhhh.

For it's time, Metal Gear Solid 4 really felt like the end of everything (and I think that was the point being made in general), at first it was extremely grim, but one fake credits screen later, we're left with a bittersweet feeling and one of the most polarizing entries in the franchise.

Hmmm, this is quite hard since there is a tie between two games that will, and have, literally made/make me cry over and over again. But with convincing and evidence, I'd have to go with UNDERTALE.

This game man, this game. It feels like a lion clawing at my heart, repeatedly. The ending
Spoiler:
Excuse me, "endingS!"
always gets me. Even though everything seems fine and dandy, there's always something that proves otherwise. As much as I like explaining things, I do not want to spoil it for anyone reading this post. So, I won't give out examples.

In short, go buy the game (or download the demo first, actually). Play it, complete 100% of the game, and then you'll understand why I find this the saddest game ever.

I won't even explain the Ending.

For me, it would have to be the ending to Telltale's The Walking Dead, season 1.
I'm usually not very sensitive to the feels, but this brought it out in me. The game has us get to know and love each character in the story, making it all a bit emotional. I love how it all built up to the end, though.
Spoiler:
We all knew what was coming when Lee got bitten on episode 4, but alas, the floodgates opened when I had to make poor Clementine shoot him in the very end.

Mainly JRPG endings. Classic PS1 JRPG ending were very sad but Persona three and four really pulled on those heartstrings. Nothing like playing a game for over a hundred hours just to get your emotions stomped on at the end. You will feel for the characters in those games, even if they are a bit cliche.
