Have you ever wanted to play a game where you get to build your own golf course? If so, then Sid Meier's SimGolf is the game for you. Released on January 23, 2002 in North America, this game allows you to build and manage your own golf course. How does this concept compare to amusement park building or zoo building? You'd think the answer is absolutely not, but I'm here to show you that this game can be almost as fun as the RCT's and the Zoo Tycoon's out there by making this review.

Graphics: 7/10
Sid Meier's SimGolf offers decent visuals for it's time. The scenery and trees look realistic for it's time, and the large variety of terrain you can add to your course is also visually appealing. While the game itself does look good for it's time, they aren't a whole lot better than the graphics in RCT and Zoo Tycoon. The visuals in this game are good enough for me to give the graphics a 7 though.

Sound: 5/10  The music in Sid Meier's Sim Golf won't blow you away, but it's decent for a golf game. The music is fitting for the environments, but the soundtrack isn't very memorable. Overall, there are way better soundtracks for PC games out there, such as RCT's soundtrack. Overall though, it's still got decent music, therefore I'm giving the sound a 5.

Addictiveness: 9/10
Sid Meier's SimGolf offers a unique combination of simulation and golf by allowing you to build your own golf course. It's surprisingly fun to build your own golf course to the satisfaction of golfers, and even play on the courses you built. Besides building courses, it's also really entertaining to see how golfers interact with each other. The golfers aren't the only ones who say interesting stuff though. Your employees such will say some funny things as well, such as when the groundskeeper removes dandelions, he says "Me hate dandelions!" Seeing the random and funny stuff that people say makes me want to keep playing. Overall, the great golf course designing combined with guest interactions gives Sid Meier's SimGolf a huge amount of replay value. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 9.

Story: N/A
Sid Meier's SimGolf doesn't have a story, therefore I'm leaving this category blank.

Depth: 8/10 This game has a good amount of types of courses to build. You can build  anything from a scottish course to desert courses, and even courses along a beach. There's plenty of variety, and the courses can take awhile to build, so you'll be playing this game for hours on end. In addition, there's a sandbox mode, which is always great for a game like this to have. Overall, Sid Meier's SimGolf has enough content for me to give the depth a 8.

Difficulty: 4/10
Sid Meier's SimGolf can be kinda tough at times. Finding a happy medium between easy and hard courses to satisfy the golfers can be tough to achieve. Also, if your course gets filled with dandelions and they aren't taken care of, this can also tick off golfers. If they get too upset, they'll start throwing some of the most hilarious temper tantrums you'll ever see and start vandalizing your park. While I admit it's entertaining to watch this chaos unfold, it's of course not good for your course, so making sure the golfers are happy is necessary for your course to be successful. This isn't too hard to do, and there's much tougher games out there. Overall, this game's difficulty is worthy of a 4 to me.

Overall Score: 8.5/10
While Sid Meier's SimGolf isn't quite as impressive of a simulation game as Roller Coaster Tycoon, it's still a very entertaining game worth playing. The golfers that come to your park are fun to watch, the graphics are pretty good, and there's a decent challenge that comes from this game. Overall, Sid Meier's SimGolf is a game worth playing if you're into both golf and simulation. Overall, I'm giving Sid Meier's SimGolf a 8.5 out of 10.

Sim Golf? It does not sound like an interesting concept

However YOU do make it sound like fun. I do not know how it compares to other Meier's games (like Civilization), but I guess you gave it enough detail to entice people to play. A high 4 for you!

I didn't even realize that this was an actual game released, especially since it was released in the last 10-15 years. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though. There was a "Sims" game for almost everything in the 90's and early 2000's.

This concept doesn't seem that appealing except for people that just love golf and/or "Sim" games. Honestly I would personally rather watch paint dry than play a game like this but that's just me.

Good job taking a boring concept for a game and writing an in-depth review. That can be hard to do with little subject matter to actually talk about. Great review!

Jordanv78 : Yeah, people who aren't into golf games won't be into this one either. Anyways, I'm glad you liked my review even though you aren't a fan of the genre.
