Come on. We all have songs we used to like but now feel ashamed to because the artist / song / style is so far out of what we like today.

Among those artists for me is Céline Dion. Being from Quebec, I "had no choice" but to listen to her on nearly every radio station (she also won pretty much every trophy in the French music awards). There is no denying she has talent - she would not have sold so many albums otherwise - but the songs she interprets are just lame love songs. Nevertheless, I still love to listen to songs from Unison (especially the title song, but from the music video since the one on the album is terrible) and Dion chante Plamondon (her last good French album), even though hard rock characterizes my taste today. The lyrics are plain, the beat is conventional... but I just like listening to it!

Similarly, I do not know why I still enjoy listening to Mitsou. Her lyrics are almost sexually explicit (and so were her music videos) but there was that 80s beat that, I guess, made it addicting.

On the English side, I still find interest in listening to old Spice Girls songs like Wanna Be or Backstreet Boys' like Backstreet's Back (the music video was quite original). I remember hating the latter when my younger brother was in that phase (he later switched to Slip Knot ) and my father made us listen to it. And since they have such a bad reputation (although I believe there exists FAR worst), I guess I can include Nickelback in the lot.

What are some of your musical guilty pleasures?

80's glam rock. I didn't know any better. I had a dubbed cassette of punk songs and whatever was on the radio and MTV(they used to show videos there). Circus and Hit Parader magazine told me Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt, and many others were cool and hip. I thought Ozzy was too hardcore and rap didn't exist. They had some decent songs, but I'd rather not go back to the days of thinking Whitesnake was ground breaking. I love Still of the Night by them even to this day though. I like such an eclectic variety of styles anymore though. I love to mess with my neighbors by blasting Black Sabbath then following it up with the B-52's.(HUGE FAN- not ashamed of that though)

I guess I would classify it as "Youtube "music"".
I'm not talking about covers or remixes here.
I mean stuff like Epic Rap Battles Of History, Remixes of songs using shows or video games, or those fads that went and came (What does the fox say, Dragostea Din Tei "Numa Numa", etc...).

Besides that, I like One Direction (Which I'm not sure if this classifies, but I hear a lot of bad things about them. I like em, their songs are catchy and uplifting, and just generally fun), Country music (Same argument as above) and Selena Gomez (Same). I know they're not this obscure type of music, but usually not associated with nice comments on their music besides it coming from a fan, but I think they're really nice.

Ferdinand : come on! I do not pretend to love that music, but the local rock station plays a lot of Motley Crue and they still rock! Poison might be a bit outdated (by I love Unskinny Bop), but Black Sabbath and Ozzie are NOT! But now that you mention B-52s, I guess they are a guilty pleasure; the "50s" are not popular in my generation.

maguc : Dragostea was a one-hit wonder in North America. A local TV station used it to promote its summer shows the year it got it. I do have it on a playlist but do not feel much for it. As for the other songs / genres you enumerated, if you do not feel "guilty" about liking them then it is not a guildty pleasure

janus : It's like not really too many 40 somethings I know are overjoyed to show you pictures with them sporting a nice mullet. I never really did though. I just let my hair grow and had some nice bangs action going on. I used to have bangs..... Anyways, at least in my experience, A lot of folks are a bit ashamed of that aspect of their pasts. I suppose it depends on who you know.

I most often prefer listening to remixes, YTPMV's, and awful midis than I do "real music".

maguc : I secretly enjoy some country music also

Ferdinand : according to your profile you were not even a teen when these bands were at their peak. One is not responsible for one's aesthetic choice during these years

janus : Thanks. But my older brother was a big influence on my musical selection so I got a head start. My first concert was Bon Jovi and Cinderella in Rockford Illinois on June 5, 1987. So I wasn't even a teen yet. haha. Great show btw. Next one was Aerosmith and Dokken on the Permanent Vacation tour. Stephen Tyler was awesome live way back then. Party on Wayne.

Whats my guilty pleasure music? Well, back when Skrillex was hated on for his screachy take on dubsteps sound... Skrillex was one of them lol. Others include a few Britney Spears songs... Few Katy Perry... and even The Unsung Heroine I guess since most people give me that "huh" look when I explain who she is.

I still listen to Michelle Branch.
I listen to a lot of screamo aha. Pierce the Veil is my jam.
And I still listen to all the emo songs I grew up on. I can belt out every emo anthem there is.

I swear I'm not an angsty teen shhhh.

My Guilty pleasure would have to be Metallica and Static X, specifically their songs Enter Sandman and I'm with Stupid respectively. Considering I grew up listening mainly to country and a bit of pop...and my parents hate anything but country and gospel...yeah...I don't even know how I got into them but I can't get out!

I am a metal head at heart, but my guilty pleasure would have to be anything from Les Misarables.  I love the song "one day more" from the 25th anniversary  album.  Also some country...not much mind you, but there are a few songs I like to listen to some times

Lil B, or The Based God, is one of the worst rappers to walk this earth, but he portrays this knowing of the fact, or maybe he just doesn't care that he's terrible. He has a positive message that gets shrouded in ridiculous beats and stupid lyrics, but somehow I end up liking his work. I'd say it's out of irony, but I don't really know what it is.

A guilty pleasure?  Never really took music as something to feel guilty about, but if there's one it's probably the opening to "Dragon Ball Z Kai" got it stuck in my head years ago and started singing it, every once in a while it'd pop back up and then boom, I'd be singing it with my god awful singing skills for 2 days on end if not playing it on my guitar or humming or whistling it. I mean, I dunno.
