Long post!

The amiibo situation does need to stop, I agree. It's a reason Nintendo's games are viewed as kiddy by Xbox fanboys, some of the stupidest people out there, and cashing in on DLC is irritating. (I hate DLC anyway but paying for some figure thing to unlock stuff ALREADY IN THE GAME is ridiculous in its own right.)

Even around the Wii times from 2010-ish I noticed a drop in quality titles by Nintendo, which is a reason I simply play retro games, is because I already noticed by then that Nintendo were getting worse. Perhaps it's the influence of the PS4/XB1 that's causing it? Or a greed for money, as was shown in NSMB2 (obsessive-coin disorder is the condition of that game) - dunno really. Rehashing Mario Tennis isn't going to go far anyway, though.

Splatoon was a kind of fad in my opinion. There was an obsession over it on Jul's thread for it which made the board extremely active for a while, then the thread died down about a couple of months later. Mario Maker at least has made a good impact on ROM-hacking and that is, that it sort of clears the amount of bad hacks since we have another way to make levels. However remakes don't go anywhere, unless you like nostalgia, most of the time.

I did hear Nintendo's E3 2015 was terrible and one of their worst, now I know why...

I saw on some board or gaming site, that Iwata drove the company into 'just innovations'. I do agree with that matter, but he did a lot for the company, bringing it the DS and Wii and other things, finally mastering 3D portable gaming with the 3DS...

The reason for that, I can answer: the only people buying Nintendo products of late seem to be longtime fans of Nintendo (aka, people who went to N64 and GameCube after the SNES and didn't move to PlayStation) and parents. Thanks to the 'Genesis does what Nintendon't' advert long time ago it put the 'Nintendo is for kids' image into everyone's heads, you disproved that in your post already.

Nintendo will have a chance of almost zero. The Wii U's failure and the 3DS's current low sales, and their rubbish management right now (seeing with all the stupid Amiibo, DLC and such which I strongly disagree with), gives Nintendo a gap to exit the video game industry some time.

The NX will do nothing good. It will fail because it's having a too early release. If Nintendo found a proper way to attract gamers (they're going in the right direction with the controller of the NX), and as you say, having good launch titles worldwide, then perhaps it would work. If they choose to ignore the fact this is their problem, then they will be forced to exit.

gamerforlifeforever2 :

I agree with your statement made on page one. Nintendo is still doing an awesome job making amazing games. The only issue is probably the Wii U and it's lack of third party support. Otherwise Nintendo is still awesome and honestly, I don't care for many games outside of hat Nintendo makes, or what has been on Nintendo consoles.

Nintendo really should start using their other IPs or start making new ones. The big N still has a number of franchises under their hood that haven't a had a game for years like F-Zero and Custom Robo. Apparently F-Zero has become too stale, but a new Mario game with a single new addition or twist isn't. Splatoon did really well and is the most original idea Nintendo has probably had these recent years, so having some new IPs is hopefully something that's within their intentions.

Now I wouldn't mind the Amiibo situation too much if they weren't locking up gameplay within the games that use it and if they weren't so hard to find in certain cases. Cosmetic skins like in MarioKart 8 are fine, but making a gamemode that plays like the older games in Mario Party 10 definitely isn't. I wasn't even aware of the latter, the fact that Nintendo did a thing like that baffles me. That and for some reason they seem to have problems manufacturering amiibos at a higher rate. More people want amiibos than the number Nintendo has available and its making certain amiibo models go for absolutely insane prices.

Nintendo could technically jump ahead of everybody else with the NX, but that would require them to actually fix a bunch of things really quickly. They've tried to adapt to the modern standards set nowadays, but they still aren't quite there yet. Also Nintendo needs to start building relationships with third parties. The strong third party support of the NES and SNES along with Nintendo's stellar games is what made those systems sell in the first place. The support diminished with the release of the N64 because the way Nintendo generally were with other developers along with the cartridge limitations which turned many developers off (Same goes for the GameCube and it's Mini-DVD's). There's a reason Sony has had the most exclusives and console sales over the past years and one of the factors to that is that Sony knows the way to handle things when it comes to third party support.

Nintendo really does have a lot of great games, they just need to be better about releasing some of their main franchises when systems launch. Recently these consoles/handhelds are released with a bunch of games that no one really cares about. If they go back to releasing big Franchise games at launch, their systems will do A LOT Better.

Nintendo needs to scrap the amiibos, create new IPs, get full third-party support for mainstream and indie devs on their systems, and cater to a much broader audience. Nintendo really needs to break out of its own shackles.

Nintendo has only so many exclusives and their relationships with companies like lets just say EA isn't good. I believe that the only chance Nintendo can survive is if they meet their consumers needs on making remakes and sequels or prequels to Nintendo Exclusivity. I believe that they realized this and plan for they plan to release Pokemon Sun and Moon as well as Dragon Quest Vii ( never had a Western release) and Dragon Quest Viii for 3DS.
