I know there are a lot of people who enjoy Marvel vs. Capcom.  Smash Bros. is more my cup of tea, but I suppose I can understand to an extent why someone would prefer the other.

If we are talking old school classic fighting games, then I have to pick at least one major contender above it.... SF2.  The Arcade port and SNES ports being my favorite's.  I'm talking the original. SF2.  None of that turbo, hyper, super whatever just Street Fighter II "The World Warrior".  But as I have so much respect for the genre itself I must make a post in this thread stating my opinion.

Meh, as far as fighters go, I much prefer the Super Smash Bros, Tekken, Dead or Alive and Street Fighter series. Honestly though, Marvel vs Capcom is very good as well.
