Hey.

I'm looking to try a new game and I really don't know what to play. It's been a long time since I've played anything new really and I want recommendations.

I'm looking at 2010-2013 so that the game will run easily on Windows 10 but not too new so that my laptop can run it really well. (link to my new laptop specs: https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=86347)

So yeah, I'm interested in a game you've played from 2010-2013 that you thought was great. I wont' specify a genre because I don't want to limit what kind of games suggested.

Thanks!

There are a lot of great games from those years. My personal recommendations are:

-Hotline Miami- Addictive, entrancing, and has a great soundtrack. Perfect for playing in one run (you might have problems if you try to run it in Steam).

-XCOM: Enemy Unknown- It's probably one of the best strategy titles ever made. Addiction is guaranteed.

-Max Payne 3- As good as a modern shooter can be, with great graphics, music, story, and of course gameplay.

Guacamelee! Gold: One of the most polished and fun games I've ever played.  It's a metroidvania platformer that mixes elements of fighters with platforming.

Rayman Legends: Although it requires the Uplay DRM, this is perhaps the best 2D platformer I've ever played.  The music levels in particular are incredibly fun.  Plus the game is lengthy.  Totally worth it for the single player, and absolutely worth it if you have friends.

Dust: An Elysian Tail: Another 2D adventure game that has a wonderful combo system and gorgeous visuals. The story is a bit hit-or-miss, but the gameplay is tight and responsive, and fun to experiment with.

VVVVVV: A cheap, simple platformer with a catch: You can't jump.  You can only reverse gravity for your character.  The game is very difficult, but can be completed in perhaps less than four hours.  But it also has extra levels/content, and collectable "trinkets".  Collecting one in particular may be one of the hardest challenges in a video game ever.  At $5, it comes highly recommended, more so if on sale.  Note: It is often bundled.

Jamestown: A "space shooter", it has a unique mechanic in the Vaunt system.  You can briefly double your score and put up a forcefield by pressing a certain button, once a meter is filled.  This mechanic is put to good use in the game, and is sometimes necessary to survive.  It's well-designed, and has a number of extra challenges for fun.  If you have a regular mouse for use with your laptop, I highly recommend it.  If not, I suggest you perhaps skip it.

Scribblenauts Unlimited: An experimental game that lets you create just about anything you put your mind to (with exception of proper nouns).  It's simple, but a lot of fun somehow.  Children will likely get more of a kick out of it than adults, nevertheless; I had a lot of fun.

To the Moon: Be prepared to cry.  A story made with RPG Maker, it's perhaps the greatest story told in a video game ever.  It has a lot of emotional moments, and plenty of humor.  Plus, the soundtrack is simple, yet incredibly fitting.  I cannot recommend this game enough.

Starbound. It might be too new for you, being released at the end of 2013, and is technically still being worked on now, as an "early access" game on Steam, but it's deep as it is, and it's fun, with countless hours of gameplay.

Rogue Legacy. It's shorter than many games, but it's wicked fun. Also on Steam, rogue-lite. Hard to really explain the appeal, you have to look into it yourself to determine if it is for you.

Not much else, I play mostly sports games and RPGs

geeogree : Well first, I would start off with recommending that you get a Steam account. Steam is an awesome gaming platform where you can find all sorts of games that fit your interests.

Also Electronic Arts "Origin" service gives out a free game every month. These are usually older type PC games or Puzzle games, but I have gotten cool RPG's like Dragon Age Origins totally free.

Off the top of my head and not knowing what types of games you like to play, I would recommend these series

Dead Space

Dragon Age

BioShock

Fez

Shadowrun Returns

Terraria

L.A. Noire

I have a ton more I can recommend, but these are just a few off the top of my head.

Jordanv78 : I have a steam account but I prefer getting game recommendations from people I can talk to than randomly from "ratings". What I think makes a good game isn't always what others think is a good game so I'm really hesitant to go based on what people have rated highly.

geeogree : Oh I understand that, I was just referring to the fact that they have a huge variety of games from Big Developers all the way to great Indie projects that you can follow from the ground floor all the way through release. That's one of the features I really enjoy about steam.

I'd recommend Planetary Annihilation. That's a pretty good RTS game.

I could also recommend Sonic Generations, if you don't already have that.

It may seem like a game you won't enjoy due to all of the violence, but I'd recommend assassin's creed 2.

Don't get me wrong, it's pretty violent, but it's not as violent as the newer ones, and it has an AMAZING story and game play, that I really enjoyed. It's on steam for $20 (they only have the deluxe edition) but it's totally worth it.

It's a violent game, but has so much more to it then just killing people.

Link broken, remove ")" from it. Also, I not sure it it is in that exact time range but VVVVVV, high difficulty, but it should run fine considering the Commodore 64 graphics, and it may be 2 years older than your looking for, but Saints Row 2, good story line (IMO), and fun (or rage-quitibly hard, if you play hardcore) gameplay (that unlike GTA, has good gunplay).

pooch167 : And what game would that be?

geeogree : Get Alan Wake. Play Alan Wake. Enjoy Alan Wake. That is my advice to you. Especially if you like a good story in your games, you will definitely not be disappointed.
