Everything was happiness when Windows 10 came out. Many of us thought it would bring better functionality, some new and nice apps, and whatnot. And it seemed that way for me for the first weeks.

However, I've come to realize that Windows 10 hasn't brought a better functionality, and that the new apps are everything but nice.

The new display of the folders, which show less details of an archive; Groove Music not capable of focusing on a single song like Windows Media Player did, and who was relegated to a very small screen; the computer keeps over-ventilating for nothing, something it didn't do with Windows 7... Then, it killed my capability to do netplay in this site, and not happy with that, it has screwed up something else.

I was editing some photos to make an album, as I've always done. Paint has served me well, by simply adjusting the size of the image and easily deleting unwanted parts. However, now it seemingly doesn't let me save anything, saying I don't have permission to save in the desired destination. What's worse, it then says I can save at another place as an alternative. However, even when attempting to save there I get the same message. I tried to edit the photo with the default app used for it, but it keeps saying there's a problem with opening the archive and thus can't be edited.

This leads me to the following question: was it really worthy to upgrade to Windows 10? My answer is quickly turning into a "NO". I'm going to try and get some of this issues solved, but honestly, everything worked so fine with 7 that downgrading back is a very tentative option.

Should I keep using Windows 10, at least up to its first month of tenure, and then downgrade? Should I downgrade ASAP? Should I fight this issues or deal with them because "progress"? Which option would you take?

I faced many of the same issues you did when I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7. None of the apps worked-if they did they crashed after a few seconds- my browser kept randomly toggling in and out, and many features, including the ability to restore the old system were "unavailable". I was forced to downgrade after I couldn't find a solution, and I suggest you do the same, immediately.

However, I have since got a new computer that runs 10 perfectly. So if you pick up a new computer someday, do not fear the "wrath" of 10.

I've recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to windows 10 and was impressed by the simplicity of not only the update process but the fact that everything seemed to work perfectly right out of the box. No adjustments needed. Even the RGR plugin worked lol.

I'm actually surprised, I have yet to come across one issue with an app or anything else windows related.

Boxia : I don't fear a new computer fitted with Windows 10. In fact, I wanted to buy a new laptop, since my current one is very old, but after I knew Windows 10 was coming out, I decided to wait until laptops including Windows 10 were sold, so I don't fear the 10. It's just that somehow my computer seems unable to make it run smoothly, which is a pain.

You say I should downgrade? I agree with that, but I guess I'll first ask my technician about my issues, and if the solution is too complicated for me, then I'll downgrade back to 7.

Jordanv78 : At first, I didn't have any trouble either, but after I started using a variety of apps I used before, the problems started to arise. Lately, I even had to update my antivirus, because the previous version couldn't run with 10, which has resulted in some apps I've downloaded to not run at all, so I must disconnect it temporarily. I guess that the computer specs play some kind of role into getting adjusted to a new software, which Windows could have notified before announcing the update if it really is so.

EX Palen : Things like specs issues and various apps not being quite updated to the newest OS is pretty common when upgrading the most common being when upgrading old hardware to new OS's.

I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 on my laptop by I've left anything that was on 7 as is. I can't imagine 10 being more streamlined than 7 was and considering the age of the hardware on the 2 machines that are still on 7 I wouldn't really want to upgrade.

I would suggest reverting to 7 personally. If I had done 7 - 10 upgrade I would be reverting. However, 8.1 to 10 has actually been nice. I find things are actually more stable with 10.

I hate the over ventilating, on my laptop, it always leads to a ton of noise and heat and the laptop starts shutting down on its own. This happens by either completely shutting down in a second or flashing various dark shades of blue and restarting.

I worry about the RGR plugin working with Windows 10, but my bigger worry would be my computer working with Windows 10! I'm already having enough issues as it is with the computer's new power supply and other upgrades.

I upgraded from 7 to 10, and my mouse and keyboard, and all other USB devices stopped responding. I would revert back to 7... but I can't without my mouse or keyboard! It does work in the bios and when using the recovery disk. The problem with the recovery disk is that when I try to use it to downgrade is tells me to start windows normally and run the CD from there.

Such a pain. I'll need to backup all my stuff and reinstall windows 7... so I'll just bring it to the pros and save me 4 hours of headaches.

I think I'll keep 7 for a few more months... until they work the bugs out of 10.

I decided that I am not going to try windows 10 until I get a better computer/laptop with decent specs especially. I orginally had 8.1 but upgrading to windows 10 is to big of a hassle on this bad spec desktop of mine. Hopefully you can get things worked out.

Well, seems I made a mistake upgrading to 10 judging from all the replies this has gotten. I will seriously consider downgrading before I start college and use my computer for even more tasks.

geeogree : It's not that more streamlined, I must say. I thought I would see a big change, but the change hasn't been big, and hasn't been for the better either. Wise move staying in 7.

Jordanv78 : Do you think that a computer with bad specs in 7 could get worse specs in 10? That would be the most logical reason behind the worsened netplay.

I totally disagree with the sentiment here. Overall Windows 10 is much more streamlined and quick although I do miss a few features that windows 8.1 had that I haven't yet found in 10.

The hardware and USB issues come from not having updated drivers for windows 10. If you find the updated drivers, they shall work.

EX Palen : I would assume so. I've noticed no issues with Netplay or the RGR in general since the upgrade.

Jordanv78 : Then I'm decided. The downgrade is only available during the first month after upgrading, so I have very few days left to make a choice.

I'm going back to 7. If it's the OS that my computer, due to specs, can run better, then it's the correct choice. Plus, this computer is like 5 years old, so I'll stick with 7 for the remainder of its life.

Local Mods : My rant is over, so the thread can be closed.
