I was debating whether or not to post this in my vacation thread but (very) recent purchases have lead me to make a whole new thread. Here, I will discuss my vacation as well as my new stuff! Apologies if I meander.

On July 29th I flew with my dad and sister from Toronto to Paris, arriving the next day. At DeGaulle-Roissy Airport we were due to make a connecting flight to Belgrade, but we first had to deal with probably the worst airport management EVER. The staff generally had no idea what they were saying or doing or knowing and confusion reigned as they bumbled around hopelessly trying to help people. The desk we checked into our flight at also held an airline checking in for flights to
Azerbaijan. Uh-huh. We got to Belgrade in one piece- but not our luggage, for which we filed a claim. Then our uncle picked us up and dropped us off at our grandma's apartment. After struggling my way through dinner I crashed hardcore.

Walking up at about 3:00 the next morning and unable to fall asleep I entertained myself with my phone and at 6:30 I hooked up to the apartment's high-speed Internet. One problem though- I had installed Windows 10 before I left and it was NOT cooperating, with seemingly every function not functioning. Downgrading to Windows 7 took 3 hours. At noon we drove to the airport and picked up our luggage. After this, we drove to a small village on the outskirts of the city and had lunch with a family friend. Serbian lunch is a very big deal, even bigger than dinner, so there was no shortage of food (grown and raised by that friend, so that was cool). From plums (especially) to eggs to sausages and watermelon, we were STUFFED by the end of the 4-hour course. We then drove back home and rested.

I will condense the events of the next days as there was a lot that happened.

July 31st- Visited my uncles cottage. Swam in his pool, ate lunch, and interacted with his dog, Čufta (which means meatball, ironic since it's a wiener dog).

August 1st, 2nd- Went to two large shopping malls. The first time around was looking at stuff we found interesting, and the second time was buying some of that stuff. Had delicious dinner of Ćevapi (a type of sausage) and Pljeskavica, and large burger.

August 3rd, 4th- Went to my uncles cottage again. Both times we were swamped by puppies owned by a neighbour. I'll admit I'm a cat guy, but the sight of all these puppies was so cute . The fourth hit kind of a dour note as at the end I had to watch a TV news special, commemorating Operation Storm in which Serb forces were routed from Croatia, and I realized the country really hadn't gotten over the conflicts of the 90s and wouldn't for a very long time.

August 5th-9th- Not terribly eventful. Visited the cottage a couple times, had dinner on the Danube, and saw first hand the refugee crisis Serbia is facing (basically migrants from Iraq and Syria are moving through to get to the EU). My father went back to Canada on the 7th, and we moved to my other grandma's, my mom's mom, apartment. In the car ride there I met Vuk, my auntie's husband, and my cousin Vid, who's six and brought up all the awkward subjects you'd expect from a kid of his age.

It was here I was plagued with a nasty issue- no WiFi. My grandma didn't have it, and all of her neighbours had theirs protected. I had 22 movies installed but the only ones that ended up interesting me were Animal House, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, and the National Treasure films. Great films, but watching them over and over bored me, to say the least. The only good channels on TV were VH1 and some channel that played 20th century (the time period) movies. I also had Victoria II, which was the only game I was in the mood for. This was *all* I had until August 11th, when my mom came in from Canada (having gone through Paris as well and ALSO having lost her luggage).....

The next day we visited a shopping street and I bought a book about the production of many famous movies. Then we went to a McDonald's and enjoyed the free WiFi.

August 13th- visited my Aunties place and used her Internet, using it to update my drivers. I also met her two-week old Zoja, who cried upon seeing me.

August 14th- Went to the St Sava Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in the world, and then the national library, which was literally seconds away.

August 15th-18th- Visited some museums, a technology museum, a car museum, and a history museum, respectively. All but the latter had free WiFi I used liberally. On the 18th Vid stayed at our apartment for the day and succeeded in annoying the heck outta me.

On the 16th, my mouse abruptly stopped working. It had been disconnecting at random since I got to Serbia, but now it wouldn't work whatsoever. At this point I realized how disagreeable my laptop was getting and decided it was unacceptable.

August 19th- Spent the day at the apartment of my mom's best friend and, you guessed it, used her Internet like there was no tomorrow.

August 20th- Had lunch with mom, sister, auntie, and Vid. I devoured an oddly-shaped steak. We packed up our stuff and later I was forced to go to sleep at 10:00, since I had to catch a flight at 6:40 the next morning.

August 21st- Was woken up at 4:00 AM. Ate some Ćevapi and brushed my teeth, then left for the airport. At this point I broke out of my slumber-induced ignorance and realized I was sick. OH MY
LORD. This would make the next flight(s) unbearable. I survived the first flight to Amsterdam (which to my shock, worked its airport very efficiently), but my next challenge was an 8-hour voyage across the Atlantic and back home. I got some shut-eye for the first two hours but was forced to stay up for the next six. Once we landed I was a wreck- blood-shot and extremely nauseous. It took all my will to not puke. We got our luggage and dad picked us up, driving us to get some emergency McDonald's. That food helped subside the nausea but I was still effectively ruined by the flight-worsened cold and fell asleep at 6:00.

I woke up at 7:00 the next morning feeling much better. After my mom picked up a lot of food (she had to empty the fridge before her departure), I left with my dad to get some important stuff. See, I had been in talks with my dad since June to get a new computer, and this seemed like the best time. After a few hours of searching we found the gold- an MSI laptop with Windows 10 (that actually worked), the latest drivers, processor, and one terabyte worth of memory. I also got a gaming mouse, a phone case with built-in ear buds, and a new laptop case to replace my old one which was falling apart. Finally, I went to a Staples and got an office chair to replace my current one which was also falling apart.

Of course, this all transpired a few hours ago, and I am still getting accustomed to this new laptop (BTW, I gave my old one to my mom after un installing my games and my browser data which had some *ahem* sensitive stuff). With all this new gear, I'm pretty ecstatic and ready to get back into the swing of things. With this illness, though, it will likely be a few days before I can get back to Vizzed fully. Until then though, I'll be hanging around!

P.S., I got very lucky with my flight from Amsterdam- today it was diverted to Belfast after a strange smell was detected on board. No, really.

That's quite an interesting trip! It sounds like you had fun at the beginning but not so much at the end, especially the nausea. Welcome back! I'm glad you posted a thread about your trip, I enjoyed reading it

Wow, boxia. That detail was rather lengthy. Your vacation seemed fairly good at first, but eventually went downhill for you from my point of view.
