So I was sleeping last night and all I remember is waking up screaming in utter pain from my leg, my sister actually told me I woke her up from screaming lol... I had a crick and a spasm all at the same time in my leg. It was so much pain literally I passed back out. It's a side effect off my medication but it just seemed to get worse over time. I rarley get them but when I do it's bad and this one was so bad that I literally just passed back out. That's a first. And I have been walking around at work all day hurting so bad in my leg because of this... I finally took some ibprohen when I got home from work but it's still hurting. Anyways I just thought I would share this and to let other people tell their stories.

Summons - Sorry for the long list of summons I just summoned these people because I talk to them the most out of other users. Though anybody is welcome to reply here.

Bintsy : The human body can be cruel at times. I myself have several small ailments such as deep, radiating muscle aches in my shoulders and neck, an odd jerking/twitching in my right shoulder, inflammation in my right knee, random migraines once in a while, and a reoccurring ingrown toenail in both my big toes that get infected and bleed from time to time. What's ironic is that I'm right handed and everything wrong with me is on my right side.

You guys are making me appreciate my health. All I can say is that my back sometimes bothers me, and my right knee hurts pretty bad at times.

I've never had either checked out, but my right knee will actually keep me awake at night sometimes (not often) with a dull ache that drives me crazy.

My back has actually gotten so bad before that I couldn't stand up straight without trying several times (and several ways) for about a week at a time on two different occasions, however these moments are extremely rare, and I think one time it was a pulled muscle. All in all though, I'm in good health I guess.

Bintsy : First of all, I am not a doctor so my advice might not be useful. I think you should ask a doctor about changing your medication. Trying to get the same ''main goal'' but with different side effects. If the pain is worse every time, I'd say: it can't go on any longer.

Same with Eirinn, you are making me to appreciate my health. I don't have pain somewhere regularly, lucky me.

By a "crick" what exactly do you mean?

Spams can really really hurt. I would make sure you are drinking enough water, and have enough vitamins and minerals throughout the day (there are some studies that show low potassium intake may cause muscle spams). Also, where specifically in your leg? Let me know, and I'll explain a stretch for it. You should stretch it while it's in a spasm, but regular stretching during the day may help. Also, if it's in your calf, there are a few other tips I'll tell you about.

Also, try taking a hot bath frequently, it helps relax the muscles, and decreases the probability of spams. Go to the drug store and get some pure Epson Salts, not the scented weird bath salts, just plain Magnesium Sulfate, and put it in the bath with you.

Light Knight : They are both spasms but they are different. One is a increasingly sharp spasm and the other is not as sharp of a feeling. Meh I view them as different things even though they are basically the same thing because I look at things differently than the average person.

Cricks are mainly in the back or neck and I get those as well but only in my neck, but oddly enough I recieve it in my leg as well .. it's weird. :/

Yeah it's in my calf. It's my left leg everytime. I rarley ever get them in my legs but when I do get them, they are bad when I get them.

I really wish I could do the bath thing but I don't have a bath anymore. I only have a walk in shower.

Usually when I recieve them in my leg I wake up in pain and I sit there and work it out by moving my leg back and forth but last night it was so bad I guess I woke up screaming and just passed out which is why I said this is a first for me.

I think a lot of people would wake up and scream from something that bad!

That sounds awful and I hope this doesn't keep happening. At least it's rare for it to happen to you. I agree with what TornadoMudkip said, I think you should tell your doctor about this problem and ask about other medications. I can't imagine this happening once, let alone multiple times.

I don't take medications, but this kind of thing happens to me all the time.

Like, all the time. Not just when I've been still for a while, I do know how bad it is, sorry that yours are so bad.

Ask your doctor if your heart is healthy enough for.......

Just ask your doctor.

Ok. Well a few things you can try is by untucking the sheets at the bottom of the bed, tight sheets will point your toes down (called Plantar Flexion) and shorten your calf muscles all night, making it more likely to get a spams. That is, unless you sleep on your belly, in which case your feet will be in plantar flexion no matter what.

Also, try this stretch before going to bed, and at least once more during the day

You are not pushing your foot hard into the ground, just keeping the back foot flat on the ground and moving your whole body (including hips) toward the wall. The wall is just there for support, don't push into it hard. Important things to keep in mind is keep your back knee straight, and keep your heel on the ground.

Make sure you feel a pull in your calf, but don't stretch to the point of pain. Hold this for 30 seconds, rest, and do it again. Remember, once before bed, and once more during the day.

DON'T do this if you are having a spasm at that moment.

Try that and I think you may notice your spasms decreasing at night.

I have never had that side effect, but it sure sounds awful for you. Here's a hug! *hugs*

I'm on a bunch of medication, and they give me Parkisonian-esque symptoms such as muscle twitching and shaking. I also get thirsty more often and go to the bathroom like a pregnant person, hahah.
Yeah... medication can really suck.
